We bought this property in 2012 and have built several buildings and forged paths throughout the 32 acres. Our road is part of the North Country Trail, a footpath stretching over 4,600 miles from Middlebury in central Vermont to Lake Sakakawea State Park in central North Dakota. While tearing down the existing house, we constructed two bedrooms in the pole barn for a quick living space. Once settled in the pole barn, we a built a small log cabin with already felled timbers from the local woods, except for the box frame which was purchased from the local Amish. Prior to building our permanent log cabin home, this small cabin was our camp site and is now being rented to people that want to relax and enjoy the outdoors. In the middle of the woods, we created a campground to be enjoyed by hikers and on the North side of our property is a tree line between two fields that is a great small camper/tent camping spot.

Songdog Meadows is our little piece of joy, from morning swims in the pond, long walks with our retrievers and sunsets to take your breath away, it is truly and deeply a treasure we cherish. The property host a variety of apple trees, open grass land, and a large cluster of trees surrounding a 3/4 acre pond, while being surrounded by wood lots on three sides and open fields to the west. There are two basins with a channel and a peaceful tree filled grass area between. The pond is in the corner of the 10 acre lot where we live at the end of a dirt road with only a small amount of traffic. The camp site is walk in on mowed pathways, with the driveway and parking area less than 200 yards away. There is a security light so you will never be in complete darkness. A stone fire pit and picnic table sit just off shore of the swimming area of the pond. There are several wide mowed pathways surrounded by prairie grasses, shaded by large trees. The area can easily handle several tents, hammocks and small RVs. The area is rural farm land with a handful of houses on the short dirt road. But this property is surrounded by wood lots and open fields. Two neighbors houses are visible but separated by trees. Our house is visible from the pond and camping area.

This is a pack it in, pack it out campsite. The closest source of potable water is in the barn or about a ten-minute walk from the site. This is a perfect social distancing campsite however you are still only a 10-minute drive to the nearest grocery store and 20 minutes from some great swimming lakes, kayaking, and small-town allure in the Irish Hills area. Ann Arbor is also only a 45-minute drive and has a bounty to offer anyone. We are very familiar with the city and can offer advice or suggestions if you'd like. There is a kayak rental in Tecumseh which is about 15 minutes away where you can do an entire river loop and return to the same place thus requiring only one vehicle. There are also several close lakes where you can drop your own kayak in and explore. If you’d like some more amenities then Walter Hayes State Park or Lake Hudson State Park are both about a 20-minute drive. We have trails throughout the woods and along with our fields for exploring. We welcome guests to wander and enjoy the property while respecting nature and all the things that live here. The area is alive with animals and creatures of all types. Families of deer and turkey call the farm home and don’t be surprised to hear a coyote howl at night. With natural water sources and different types of topography, we are blessed to have a variety of wildlife at our farm. The dogs and I had a very peaceful stay at Uncle Chuck's cabin! The highlights were the sunrises over the river, all the birds and birdcalls, the wood stove that kept the cabin very cozy at night and just all of the conveniences they provide! Anya gave me a mug before we drove down to the cabin that was such a nice gift. Chuck gave me instructions on how to use everything when I got there which was very much appreciated. Overall just a very peaceful stay with lots of beautiful scenery, wildlife and conveniences.

We needed a nice warm place to stay in late October & Chuck’s cabin was perfect! Chuck met us on arrival & showed us around the site. There is a generator for electricity to the microwave. The cabin was right by the river. Beautiful view! The wood burning stove was nice & toasty & Chuck has a nice dry supply of firewood behind cabin. The cabin is nicely decorated with fun fun & interesting signs. We left our fridge charger there & Anya was so kind as to mail it back to us! Highly recommend this place!!

What a wonderful place to get away. My wife and I needed ao badly time away from our demanding lufes. At Chucks llace we escaped to peace and quite with the most beautiful and romantic backdrop. What an amazing host that provides way above and beyond in cabin amenities. Such a lovely experience.

It was the second time we stayed at Julie’s place. The site was very well-maintained, private and beautiful. And there is a farm right next door for some daily activities, especially in the fall! Julie was very flexible and attentive to all my questions. Would definitely recommend this place!

The log cabin was ideal for the two of us, comfortable and cozy for reading, sleeping, tending the fire, enjoying birdsong and stargazing. We also appreciated proximity to the beautiful Lost Nations trails.

There is a picnic table at the ponds edge. Please feel free to use it during your stay. There is also a bottle of Dr. Broner's available for you to use if you choose to bath in the pond.

We loved our stay! Our site was easy to get to and clean and prepped with firewood when we arrived. We tent camped with our 4 dogs and they absolutely loved the pond. One of the reasons we booked. The owner's respected our privacy and we knew they'd be accommodating if we needed them. We'd certainly stay again.

Spending the evening here was the most enjoyable and relaxing experience I’ve had camping 🏕️ I stayed in my little camper van and it was perfect for my vehicle! Woke up to bird song and soft rustling prairie grasses. Couldn’t ask for a better experience. The host was kind and generous and was a perfect fit to this fairytale style camping trip. Weekend Trip to McCormick Artisans Woods/River

This overnight worked great for us. The little compound was beautifully planned and built and very accommodating - creative details everywhere, a firepit with cooking grate, a little roof over the bench by the fire, dry firewood. I liked the the little building with the sleeping berths so much I'm thinking about building one myself. The hosts were super nice, interesting people and I enjoyed getting to know them. I hope to be back.

I camped at their beautiful meadow campsite offering a fire ring and picnic table. There are beautiful wooded trails, a nearby cider mill, petting farm, pumpkin patch, and a corn maze to explore during the fall. Tom and Julie are very welcoming, friendly, and accommodating, ensuring a safe and memorable stay.
