We bought this property in 2012 and have built several buildings and forged paths throughout the 32 acres. Our road is part of the North Country Trail, a footpath stretching over 4,600 miles from Middlebury in central Vermont to Lake Sakakawea State Park in central North Dakota. While tearing down the existing house, we constructed two bedrooms in the pole barn for a quick living space. Once settled in the pole barn, we a built a small log cabin with already felled timbers from the local woods, except for the box frame which was purchased from the local Amish. Prior to building our permanent log cabin home, this small cabin was our camp site and is now being rented to people that want to relax and enjoy the outdoors. In the middle of the woods, we created a campground to be enjoyed by hikers and on the North side of our property is a tree line between two fields that is a great small camper/tent camping spot.

A stone fire pit and picnic table sit just off shore of the swimming area of the pond. There are several wide mowed pathways surrounded by prairie grasses, shaded by large trees. The area can easily handle several tents, hammocks and small RVs. The area is rural farm land with a handful of houses on the short dirt road. But this property is surrounded by wood lots and open fields. Two neighbors houses are visible but separated by trees. Our house is visible from the pond and camping area.

If the weather is kind, 2 sites will open, followed by the other 2 beginning May 1. Glad to be able to offer our slice of heaven to you again next year! (With changing daylight hours, this time limit will change throughout the season.) *The property has a lot of wildlife; Deer, Turkey, Rabbits, Coyote, Birds, & Fox. *A small creek runs across the back of the property. *There are many lakes just minutes away, as well as the Huron river for fishing & kayaking. *Public beaches at Lake Chemung & Bishop Lake. *Campfires allowed. Plenty of dead wood around, or you can purchase firewood bundles onsite. *Potable water is available to fill water tanks & containers. It is softened from the house. *Sewer dump station is 5 miles away at Brighton Rec Area (there is a fee). *Pets are allowed (cats & dogs only). They must be leashed at all times (15 ft. max). *Guests that are not part of the Hipcamp Reservation, are not allowed on-site. Guests will need to be met at a location other than our Hipcamp. There are numerous places nearby to gather instead. This assures maximum privacy for all sites & for our family. ***SUMMER ACTIVITIES: *Howell Balloon fest in June. *Howell Melon fest in August. *Captain Frosty's Ice Cream is located approximately 2–3 miles away. If the weather is kind, 2 sites will open, followed by the other 2 beginning May 1. Glad to be able to offer our slice of heaven to you again next year! Thank you to all who chose to stay this year. ***For the preservation of our property, our septic system, the privacy of other campers, all arrivals MUST be prior to dark setting in. If you can't see the signs & posts, you can damage our property AND your vehicle/equipment. Please see the site rules for current max time for check-in. (With changing daylight hours, this time limit will change throughout the season.) *The property has a lot of wildlife; Deer, Turkey, Rabbits, Coyote, Birds, & Fox. *A small creek runs across the back of the property. *There are many lakes just minutes away, as well as the Huron river for fishing & kayaking. *Public beaches at Lake Chemung & Bishop Lake. *Campfires allowed. Plenty of dead wood around, or you can purchase firewood bundles onsite. *Potable water is available to fill water tanks & containers. It is softened from the house. *Sewer dump station is 5 miles away at Brighton Rec Area (there is a fee). *Pets are allowed (cats & dogs only). They must be leashed at all times (15 ft. max). *Guests that are not part of the Hipcamp Reservation, are not allowed on-site. Guests will need to be met at a location other than our Hipcamp. There are numerous places nearby to gather instead. This assures maximum privacy for all sites & for our family. ***SUMMER ACTIVITIES: *Howell Balloon fest in June. *Howell Melon fest in August. *Captain Frosty's Ice Cream is located approximately 2–3 miles away. Perfect spot to have some privacy and feel safe. Camping on grass and some level ground is really nice as opposed to a beet down Public camp ground. I sat and talked with owner Tom, great guy. They call people like this good folk. Real good site too solid ground, lots of geese and cranes went by multiple times. Loved the stay here. We tested out a new air tent here had several nice fires and ate few really good steaks our last night. I almost hate post up here about this little gem in fear of others finding out about this gem. Oh did I mention how Responsive and respectful Julie was in returning information and questions getting answered.

It feels secluded with very little road traffic, yet the owner is nearby if you need anything. The spot is thoughtfully set up with a swim area, campfire, picnic table, toilet bucket, bags, and even paper towels ready for use. Highly recommend for a relaxing, hassle-free camping getaway!

Almost no traffic in the area, the pond was well kept, beautiful, and refreshing because we are end of season. Got nibbled by a frog which was a surprise. The "oasis" is just that, green and well kept with beautiful old walnut trees and the sounds of wild life singing you to sleep at night. I loved camping here. The property is beautiful! Easy to get to. Lots of amenities! The mosquitos by the pond weren't too bad, I'm assuming the 1 billion frogs in each pond eat them all. Just be careful where you set up your tent between the ponds. I staked mine down and then realized the tree above it was leaning significantly towards the tent. Luckily there wasn't any strong wind or storms that had me too worried. My dog loved running around off leash too!

I've been camping at various Hipcamps this summer. While each and every experience has been wonderful, Tom and Julie's land is outstanding with beautiful scenery. They've thought of everything. Easy to follow site map, land markers to each private campsite, wooded trails with a bridge covered creek, an open meadow and "park", potable water, an oder free valted outhouse with easy access to each site, fire rings, firewood (for a small fee) and a sled to pull the wood to each site, and best of all, they are great hosts. This is a must camp experience rich in history. I'm looking forward to camping here this fall to view all of the fall colors.

Weekend Trip to Peabody Small House
What a peaceful and tranquil place to have as home base to explore Detroit and Ann Arbor Michigan. Temps were high, so having a 50 Amp hook up was so important to us to be able to run our a/c. Also being able to fill some water in our tanks was very helpful as it has been hard to find publicly. Camping World is only 12 miles away in Chelsea and the dump is free if you have A Good Sam’s membership. The hosts were responsive when we needed them but also gave us our space to do our own thing. We were in a 34 ft class A RV and we fit, but you may need some help being guided in, so let them know when you are close by.

Site was very nice with a great view of the pond, as well as great access to the water. There was a fire pit and picnic table and room for our 6-person tent. Paths are well mowed. It's only about 12 minutes into the city of Angola if you forget something. The frogs were very active, there are turtles and plenty of fish, and other wildlife as well.
