Listen to the gentle brook and barred owls while nestled into the woods of Ashfield, MA on a small herbal homestead. The forest hut is a screened in platform that is lovely for camping on a warm summer's night. It has large windows and screens to keep out the bugs while enjoying a cool mountain breeze. There is a newly built composting toilet on site and small fire pit. This is not a cabin, no electricity, running water or plumbing. It is not well suited for winter camping unless you’re well equipped. BYO gear as there is not mattress or blankets in the shelter. We have a small farm store near the road filled with herbal teas, tinctures, gifts, chicken eggs, soaps, maple syrup and ghee. Take a swim in the Ashfield lake 1 mile away or visit the enchanting Chapel Falls on Trustees land just down the road in Williamsburg. Sweet Birch Herbals is a community herbal company offering workshops, apprenticeships, wellness consultations and hand crafted products including Full Moon Ghee. We grow organic herbs and ethically forage plants for medicine. Request a farm tour, herbalism class or any of our products for your stay here. Weekend Trip to Forest Hut in Western Mass

We had a great weekend getaway in this cute forest hut! The hut and privy were stocked with everything we needed for a weekend. The town of Ashfield is also very quaint. The hut is fairly close to the Airbnb house, so if you're looking for an isolated stay in the woods, this may not be far enough from others as you'd prefer.

3 nights at Forest Hut in Western Mass

Staying at the Forest Hut was a magical experience. The hut was cozy and romantic with the fairy lights, views of the light through the trees, and sounds of nature lulling us to sleep. The privy was clean and comfortable. Swinging in the hammock sipping coffee and reading a book was never better. Host is just lovely and her garden/apothecary made it extra special!

1 night at Foolhardy Hill

We had a great time here! The host Katie communicated with us via text promptly and clearly, with just enough frequency to keep us feeling like true guests. The facilities are all top quality, well thought out, leaving us with no want of cooking options, water, a wonderful fire pit and firewood (although we decided not to build a fire and turned in early instead) and comfortable seating areas including plenty of Adirondack style chairs. Bathroom/showers were spotless. Other guests were friendly and considerate. If in the Charlemont area again, we'd feel fortunate to have another opportunity to stay at Foolhardy Hill.

2 nights at Foolhardy Hill

Foolhardy is fabulous! The honors were very friendly and responsive. We usually camp at state parks but this time decided to rent a cabin. The cabin was very clean. And the mattresses were comfortable. We are very lucky to have the entire place to ourselves. The kitchen area is top notch and fully equipped with everything from pots to dishes to cleaning supplies.

Weekend Trip to Forest Hut in Western Mass

I loved staying at the kuti for a night! It was my first time camping totally solo and I felt very safe and secure at this spot. The land is beautiful, and I appreciated the things that were provided (picnic table, paper/matches for fire building). I got some awesome herbal products and eggs from the farm store. It was so quiet and peaceful at night. The composting privy was very neat and clean. It was perfect for a solo camp, and I could see it also being nice for a couple, parent-kiddo, or close friends. It felt spacious for just me but would definitely be tight quarters for more than 2 people. I’d love to come and stay again!
