Carter's Cross Country Ski Center and Shop has been a family-owned business since 1984. The land on which the trails have been built on has been in the Carter family since the late 1700's. The first Carter who came to Bethel was the first doctor in the area that helped Mollyocket, a Native American medicine woman. All the different generations that came along after were either farmers or loggers or both. Carter's XC Ski Center is located on the banks of the Big Androscoggin River. Our private established skiing/walking trails meander through the Maine woods all the way up to Farwell Mountain, overlooking Sunday River Ski, the Presidential and Mahoosuc Mountain Ranges and Mt. Washington. Nearby is Middle Intervale Farm, owned by John Carter, who produces his own vegetables and meat. He has a small, self-serve farm stand right on Intervale Road, next to Carter's. Guests can enjoy the property's views and amenities, such as hiking, kayaking, canoeing, skiing, snowshoeing, biking, bird watching, and relaxing. Weekend Trip to The Bird's Nest-Private Tiny House

I had the BEST two nights staying at the Bird’s Nest! It was so beautiful and cozy. The weather held out long enough to enjoy walking through the trails on the property, and building a fire in the wood stove was perfect for the rainy and chilly evening. Lisa is a wonderful host and put so much thought into everything one might need while staying here. I hope to be back again soon!

What an awesome spot! The Birds Nest doesn’t disappoint. The Nest sits on the same property as the owner but it’s far enough away that you can’t even see anything. Such a magical little cabin with an awesome wood stove that will keep you more than cozy. Everything was nice and clean/tidy….the outhouse was the same. Amazing location for hiking. World class fly fishing in the Carrabassett River not far away. Me and the ole girl and I can’t wait to come back!!

I loved staying here with my dog! They were so thoughtful in both building and stocking the tiny house. I had everything I needed for a cozy night away from town and my dog loved running through the woods. They have well marked trails throughout. It was perfect!

New deck in 2022 and inviting Adirondack chairs make for a pleasant stay.

Lisa was amazing about communicating before and during my trip. She was also super helpful on directing me to the perfect spot to watch the sunset. The Brid's Nest was exactly as described, and. a fun cabin to stay in. It is a little bit of a walk up to the cabin, but there is a wagon to help load up your suitcases. Sunrise through the trees the next morning was absolutely beautiful along with my drive to my next destination. If you don't mind glamping without the extra fluff, I recommend staying here!

2 nights at Carter's XC Ski Center

Camp Fern was the perfect getaway. Anne fired up the woodstove & I arrived to a warm & cozy cottage. My favorite spot was watching the sun set from the upstairs. I enjoyed the quiet and beauty of nature. Fantastic communication from Anne. I look forward to returning some day.

Weekend Trip to Carter's XC Ski Center

Everything about Stonewall Cabin was just what we hoped and expected. The interior was impressively clean when we arrived. The setting (in the woods, right on the trail network) was pretty and convenient for XC skiing. Highway noise (from quite a few miles away) is audible from outside the cabin, but otherwise, the setting feels very secluded and natural. There was plenty of firewood and water in the provided jugs, and the gas lamps provided good light for reading and cooking (we brought our headlamps, but only used them for nighttime trips to the outhouse). Great stock of board games, too!
