The farm consists of 370 acres of bottomland pasture along the creek and quiet woodlands where you can explore jagged rock cliffs and beautiful vistas. Spotted on the farm is an amazing abundance of wildlife including wild turkeys, white tailed deer, pileated woodpeckers, bobcats, coyotes, foxes, bear, and red tailed hawks.

When you want to get away to nature, what do you envision? We're a family that loves to camp; and while we love a stop at a KOA or community campground, we sometimes crave quiet time in nature without the noise and distraction of other campers. That's what makes The LAAAAND so special. The property is comprised of 50 pristine acres, with a mix of fields and woods, that bump up against another 250 acres owned by our family friends. The southern perimeter of the property is all cliff line, so you feel truly remote. The possibilities of sound pollution are limited to a far-off dog barking, horses being ridden down a nearby trail, or the possible hum of a distant lumber yard. Other than that, you'll mostly hear the wind rustling trees, deer and critters making their way through the woods, and possibly a waterfall at certain times of the year. Oh, and you will absolutely hear whipoorwhills, most likely at a time you'd rather not (we've decided they're charming). Over the nearly 2 decades we've owned this property we have spent countless weekends enjoying the simplest of pleasures; watching butterflies dance in the tree canopy, having dance parties at sunset on the deck, forging new trails and hiking into the unkown, sitting in the truck bed late at night gazing at a star-covered sky counting shooting stars. If you are looking for a space and place to reset and reconnect, The LAAAAND is waiting for you. (***Please note, we leave our personal camper on the property for the camping season, so you will see it when you arrive to the right of the campsite***)

Red River Holler

14. Red River Holler

41mi from Paintsville · 1 site · Tent, RV
Red River Holler is a real Kentucky holler tucked into the hills of Wolfe County — a genuine, between-the-ridges slice of Eastern Kentucky that most folks only read about in books. Sitting on 1.5 private acres right above Wolfe Lake, it’s the kind of place where you leave the noise behind and settle into something slower and wilder. Pitch your tent, get the fire going, and come nightfall step outside and look up. The dark skies here put on a show that will stop you in your tracks — no city glow, no distractions, just stars the way they were meant to be seen. Days are best spent exploring the legendary Red River Gorge just down the road, where world-class hiking, rock climbing, and swimming holes are waiting. Come back to the holler sun-tired and happy, stoke the fire back up, and let the Kentucky night do the rest. The camping area is its own separate space — you’ll have your own spot to set up and settle in without being on top of anyone. You’ll get everything you need to find the property and get squared away before you arrive. No host hovering, no set check-in window, just show up, stake your spot, and make yourself at home. We’re always reachable if something comes up. All pets are welcome, and your fellow four-legged campers are too. Whether you’re chasing waterfalls, soaking in the fall color, or just finally getting off the grid — Red River Holler is your basecamp for all of it.
