Red River Holler is a real Kentucky holler tucked into the hills of Wolfe County — a genuine, between-the-ridges slice of Eastern Kentucky that most folks only read about in books. Sitting on 1.5 private acres right above Wolfe Lake, it’s the kind of place where you leave the noise behind and settle into something slower and wilder. Pitch your tent, get the fire going, and come nightfall step outside and look up. The dark skies here put on a show that will stop you in your tracks — no city glow, no distractions, just stars the way they were meant to be seen. Days are best spent exploring the legendary Red River Gorge just down the road, where world-class hiking, rock climbing, and swimming holes are waiting. Come back to the holler sun-tired and happy, stoke the fire back up, and let the Kentucky night do the rest. The camping area is its own separate space — you’ll have your own spot to set up and settle in without being on top of anyone. You’ll get everything you need to find the property and get squared away before you arrive. No host hovering, no set check-in window, just show up, stake your spot, and make yourself at home. We’re always reachable if something comes up. All pets are welcome, and your fellow four-legged campers are too. Whether you’re chasing waterfalls, soaking in the fall color, or just finally getting off the grid — Red River Holler is your basecamp for all of it.Quiet, primitive camping in the hills above Wolf Lake in Wolf County, just about 20 minutes from the Red River Gorge. The property offers two campsite options. One area has space for two separate setups, while the other is a larger open site where you can choose your exact spot. The ground is mostly flat with a mix of grass and some dirt, making it easy to pitch tents. You can drive right up to the gate or walk in a short distance. The access road is steep, so use caution and plan based on your vehicle. This is a fully primitive, pack-in pack-out site. A fire ring is available, along with a simple wooden tent platform at one of the spots. The setting is quiet and laid-back, ideal for those looking to get away from crowded campgrounds. At night, enjoy clear skies and great stargazing in a peaceful, low-traffic area. Located just a couple minutes from Wolf Lake and a short drive to hiking, climbing, and scenic views throughout the Gorge, this is a great basecamp for exploring the area or just relaxing in nature.
