The kids and I had a lovely stay at the Kilns. 😊 Our hosts were friendly, relaxed, and so thoughtful! We really appreciated that firewood was free because we were using it to cook our meals! Scott even delivered dry wood and kindling when ours got rained on! We did have to get some earplugs for the spring frogs at night but loved hearing the sounds of nature. We weren't bothered by any mosquitoes. It was a perfect close spot for visiting the RRG too! Lots of positives about this site and would recommend. We camped under the chestnut tree because we knew there was some rain in the forecast.

2 nights at The Kilns @ The Red River Gorge

The Kilns is a beautiful piece of land just ten minutes from the Red River Gorge, which was an amazing arrangement for us hikers. Kimberly was so welcoming and kind. On arrival, she gave us a whole guide packet for our stay, including a map, a list of nearby recommended restaurants, recommended hikes, and even a sticker for our water bottles. A thunderstorm hit on our second night and Kim generously let us move our tent under an awning on their property. With plenty of firewood available and a clean port-a-potty, we’d definitely stay again. Regarding the frogs: yes, they are very loud! You will not be able to ignore them, but we considered them a feature of the land and Kim warned us ahead of time that they’d be making noise. We brought ear plugs and had no trouble getting to sleep (bring them if you stay here).

Weekend Trip to Camp Middle Fork

Great area with lots to do. There was a mushroom festival in town with a car and rock show, live music etc. The host was amazing, helped with information on hiking trails and things to do in the area. Hiking trails right behind camp, and a stream very close for the kids to play and discover new things in. Our boys had a really fun time on their first camping trip! If you haven’t already, give this place a visit.

Kimberly is a gracious hostess and was very helpful with recommendations on things to see for this first time visitor to Red River Gorge. Her recommendations for restaurants (Miguel’s!) and coffee (Daniel Boone Coffee house!) were spot on, as well.

We went in late April. We were the only occupants. We had the pick of the lot so we had a chance to check out every option. There were options close together and spots that seemed isolated. Every spot offers something for every camper.

7 nights at The Kilns @ The Red River Gorge

Kimberly and her husband Scott are amazing, they left nothing to want for. I don't even know how to describe this place. The picture do no justice if your looking for small private camping, this is it. In the center of so much to do, the area is absolutely beautiful. I spent a week of vacation here and do not regret even the rainy days. We sat under our canopy and enjoyed it, drinking our coffee. The free fire wood was beyond appreciated! Thanks for all the hard work to keep us stocked. By the way early spring brings on a music simphony of it's own there. Between the crickets and the frogs a radio was not needed. One more of nature's best, being there. Not sure when I'll be back, but I can't wait! Thanks for sharing such a beautiful place!

Very nice and relaxing place, beautiful almost mountains and the hosts were fantastic. It felt very private but not alone. There are several houses on the property. So there were people if you needed them. Also an interesting little town. I will be going back with my wife for sure. Natural bridge is 15 miles away and town is 10 minutes but it doesn’t feel like it. The hookups are in great shape and the lot is easy to get in and out of. Best part was the neighborhood Labrador who was very playful and sweet. Didn’t catch his name, but he tried to steal my water bottle, then the chocks for my camper, and finally some of my firewood. Then he noticed I was cooking pork chops and became very well behaved. LOL. He had to come back for breakfast and say goodbye. Gassiest dog I’ve seen in a long time and well behaved.

Close to Adventure

My place is secluded and peaceful. Its a wooded country setting and is a primitive site. There are no facilities or utilities, there is an outhouse/self composting (follow up your business with dropping leaves in after). It may not be suitable for children as there are active brush/wood burn piles on the land. See all photos and ask questions, please. I want it to be enjoyable for all who book. It’s also noteworthy that there are dogs in the area that roam free, it’s way out in the country, there are no leash laws. I’ve never had any issues with unfriendly dogs, but always be aware. It’s at a dead end road, no thru traffic. You can stay and enjoy some amazing stargazing, (there is minimal lighting and a very dark, clear view of the night sky) and lots of peace and quiet or explore the Daniel Boone National Forest surrounding the property or travel a short distance and see so many nearby amazing areas…Red River Gorge, Natural Bridge State Park, NADA Tunnel, Sky Bridge, Cave Run Lake, Twin Knobs and Zilpo Recreation Areas, Carter Caves State Park, Grayson Lake, Rudy’s Ranch. Plantasia Homestead at Anglin Falls

Our property, Plantasia, is thirty-five acres of hardwood forest, lined with limestone boulders and sandstone cliffs, the occasional old growth tree, and mineral springs pouring out pure delicious water. The rest of the property is an old Appalachian homestead, featuring organic gardens and orchards, two farm cats and one farm dog, bee hives, and a flock of domestic ducks. The stewards are Phil, Sacha, three year-old Aurora, and baby Arthur. We are particularly keen to welcoming other families and/or folks who live in relative sobriety. The springs feed into creeks which criss-cross the wildflower meadow, creating spaces to splash and explore with the minnows, crawdads, frogs, snakes, and whoever else you might find. To the interest of fossil hunters and rock hounds, the creeks are packed with geodes, agates, and relics of an age when Plantasia was the ocean floor (~250 million years ago). Down the road, the trailhead of one of Kentucky's greatest waterfalls, Anglin Falls, is within walking distance (though you can also drive there and park). Plantasia is also a short drive from Berea, the folk art capital of Kentucky, which features plenty of local shops and restaurants, as well as some beautiful trails on the outskirts of town (Brushy Fork for a relaxing stroll, or the Pinnacles for a big majestic hike).

For the water enthusiast and serious fisherman River Run has its own private dock with two slips and the ability to dock several boats around the perimiter. We have two gas powered john boats that can be rented in addition to your camper with a signed waiver but feel free to bring your own kayaks , or smaller fishing type boats. ( no yachts or pontoons ) There are miles of river to be explored with lots of amazing natural beauty. The Kentucky river has a great variety of fish for your chasing, large and small mouth bass, walleye, muskie, drum, pan fish an abundance of nice size channel cats which are so much fun to catch. Talk to me nice and I might give you some tips. There is so much here you will have to come and see for your self. FYI gang plank going down to the dock is steep so depending on your physical condition the dock may not be accessible to you.

Pets brought to Pet-friendly Cabins must be paid for in advance or at time of booking. We charge a non-refundable pet fee of $150 and any additional cleaning and/or damages will be billed in addition to this amount. A minimum of $350 per animal will be charged to the guest for animals brought to non-pet-friendly cabins and/or for animals that were not pre-approved. No charge for service animals or emotional support animals. Please contact us as soon as possible if your plans change and you must cancel or reschedule your stay. A $100 cancellation fee applies to all cancellations and no refunds are allowed within (30) days or less of your booked check-in date. We will work with you to reschedule your dates if your check-in date is greater than (30) days away. No refunds are permitted due to sudden inclement winter weather, but come anyway and get snowed in with us! Please be aware that no refunds are permitted for cancellations on holidays, which include but is not limited to: New Year’s Eve, New Year's Day, Valentine's Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
