I become owner of this property in 2017. The cabins were built in the late 90's financed by the previous owner. The property was vacant for decades prior to that. In the 1950's, the property was a drive-in motel called the 'Harbert Motel'. We have an arial photo from this time period which showed a number of small bungalows for guests, each with its own carport. I love all the stories I hear from locals who have been around long enough to remember how things 'used to be'.
Southwest Michigan has an interesting history and has been a 'destination' from city dwellers for close to 100 years. Even Al Capone and his goon's frequented the area as they moved illegal good during the days of prohibition.

Camp Ames is located on the scenic Mississinewa River 3.5 miles outside of Peru, Indiana. We have full service camp sites. The camp shack is appointed with a picnic table and TV to catch up on the latest news. Bald eagles are a huge attraction in this area. Acres Trust Nature Preserve is a short walk away. We have our own 4 acre wildflower meadow that attracts many butterflies and birds during the summer months. It's just a peaceful, quiet place to visit. Cell phone service is not great here but not totally absent if you stand in the right place. Wi-Fi is available. This is our private camp ground and not a for public use unless arrangements are made with us. We will assign your site before your arrival. A vacancy on this site does not mean we have availability as our friends and family may be visiting. When requesting a site please include a description of your camper, the number of people and how many amps your camper requires. This help us place you on a site if one is available.
Suggested Local Attractions:The World's Greatest Amateur Circus: Peru, Indiana, is also known as the "Circus City". In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Peru was home to the Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus and others. Even the Ringling Brothers Circus wintered there for a while. For 10 days each July, Peru celebrates the Circus City Festival with rides, crafts, food, games, and more. The highlight, however, is the live amateur circus that has performances throughout the festival. A unique and authentic experience that echoes the early heyday of the circus, this is a fun event not to be missed. Performers are locals, some of whom are direct descendants of professional performers in the earlier shows. Even if a visit is timed to occur outside of July, a visit to the small but impressive International Circus Hall of Fame might be worth the trip. Seven Pillars: Located 0.8 miles from Camp Ames
This breathtaking formation along the Mississinewa River was created over the centuries as wind and water eroded the limestone, carving rounded buttresses and alcoves into the north bluff of the river.
Seven Pillars Nature Preserve - Acres Land Trust - Located 0.3 miles from Camp Ames!
This preserve on the south side of the Mississinewa River is named after the landmark 25-foot limestone pillars, also owned by ACRES, which are located on the north side of the river. On top of the bluff grow red cedar, Juneberry and shadbush. In the preserve are beech, maple and other trees, as well as open meadow. The Miami Nation continues to gather at the pillars. The preserve is 148 acres of woods open to the public to walk the woods. There is 1.8 miles of trail. PRESERVE RULES: As a preserve visitor, you are responsible for keeping these habitats undisturbed. McClure’s Orchard/Winery: Located 9.8 miles from Camp Ames
A small, family-owned and operated apple farm nestled in the rolling hills of northern Indiana, located an hour from Indianapolis. Currently growing 125 varieties of apples, which throughout the season are available for u-pick or already picked.
Beginning Labor Day Weekend, ride the tractor and trolley through the Orchard, for tours and apple picking. Toward the end of September through October, the trolley will stop in the pumpkin patch for u-pick. There is no parking or admission fee, and no charge for the ride through the Orchard. More than apples and pumpkins, there’s a playground area and petting zoo for the kids (and the kiddos at heart). During September and October, saddle up a horse, and take a horse ride on the weekends for $1. On most weekends, there’s live music; so, be sure to check the website to see who is playing and which day. McClure’s has a café serving delicious food, made fresh daily. The apple dumplings are amazing! The adults in the group can also sample or enjoy a glass of McClure’s award-winning wine and hard cider. In 2019 a down town location was opened on the Wabash River featuring Wine Tasting just 3.4 miles from Camp Ames.

Preslie Meadow is a acre wildflower habitat. Established in 2018. Paths are provided to walk and enjoy the beauty. An array of wildflowers can be seen at different times in the spring and summer months. Birds, butterflies, bunnies and deer benefit from the meadow. Photographers and admirers walk the paths and drive by all season. Visitors are welcome and ask not to pick the flowers.

Hi! My name is Macy, and this is a project that my grandmother, father, brother, and I have been working on together. Our goal is to share our property with families who have children that love to ride.
A quick story:
When I was a kid, one of my dad’s best friends’ parents let us use about 20 acres of their farm and woods, where we set up a little campground. We had a small camper, tents, a fire pit, and a track out in the woods where we rode dirt bikes, four-wheelers, and side-by-sides.
The best part was that we could keep our belongings and machines there during the week, so when the weekend came, all we had to do was show up and make memories with family and friends. To this day, we still talk about those times.
With that in mind, we want to rent this cabin out to families so they can experience the same thing. We’ve tried to make it as easy as possible for you to simply show up and focus on creating memories. We hope that keeping things simple will allow for more time riding and enjoying the woods.

Although you are on the lake, you do not have direct access to the lake. Parking is located on the grassy area across the road from the lot. The campground is between the highway and train, so you will hear both day and night with a lot of golf cart traffic. Guest must follow all campground rules, no refunds will be issued. You will have access to all the amenities of the park including use of the pools, beach, and park. Cost of the miniature golf course is not included. There is a restaurant at the park that serves fast food and deserts.

I become owner of this property in 2017. The cabins were built in the late 90's financed by the previous owner. The property was vacant for decades prior to that. In the 1950's, the property was a drive-in motel called the 'Harbert Motel'. We have an arial photo from this time period which showed a number of small bungalows for guests, each with its own carport. I love all the stories I hear from locals who have been around long enough to remember how things 'used to be'.

Camp Ames is located on the scenic Mississinewa River 3.5 miles outside of Peru, Indiana. We have full service camp sites. The camp shack is appointed with a picnic table and TV to catch up on the latest news. Bald eagles are a huge attraction in this area. Acres Trust Nature Preserve is a short walk away. We have our own 4 acre wildflower meadow that attracts many butterflies and birds during the summer months. It's just a peaceful, quiet place to visit. Cell phone service is not great here but not totally absent if you stand in the right place. Wi-Fi is available. This is our private camp ground and not a for public use unless arrangements are made with us. We will assign your site before your arrival. A vacancy on this site does not mean we have availability as our friends and family may be visiting. Suggested Local Attractions:The World's Greatest Amateur Circus: Peru, Indiana, is also known as the "Circus City". In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Peru was home to the Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus and others. Even the Ringling Brothers Circus wintered there for a while. For 10 days each July, Peru celebrates the Circus City Festival with rides, crafts, food, games, and more. The highlight, however, is the live amateur circus that has performances throughout the festival. A unique and authentic experience that echoes the early heyday of the circus, this is a fun event not to be missed. This breathtaking formation along the Mississinewa River was created over the centuries as wind and water eroded the limestone, carving rounded buttresses and alcoves into the north bluff of the river.
Seven Pillars Nature Preserve - Acres Land Trust - Located 0.3 miles from Camp Ames!
This preserve on the south side of the Mississinewa River is named after the landmark 25-foot limestone pillars, also owned by ACRES, which are located on the north side of the river. On top of the bluff grow red cedar, Juneberry and shadbush. In the preserve are beech, maple and other trees, as well as open meadow. The Miami Nation continues to gather at the pillars. The preserve is 148 acres of woods open to the public to walk the woods. There is 1.8 miles of trail. McClure’s Orchard/Winery: Located 9.8 miles from Camp Ames
A small, family-owned and operated apple farm nestled in the rolling hills of northern Indiana, located an hour from Indianapolis. Currently growing 125 varieties of apples, which throughout the season are available for u-pick or already picked.
Beginning Labor Day Weekend, ride the tractor and trolley through the Orchard, for tours and apple picking. Toward the end of September through October, the trolley will stop in the pumpkin patch for u-pick. There is no parking or admission fee, and no charge for the ride through the Orchard. More than apples and pumpkins, there’s a playground area and petting zoo for the kids (and the kiddos at heart). During September and October, saddle up a horse, and take a horse ride on the weekends for $1. On most weekends, there’s live music; so, be sure to check the website to see who is playing and which day. McClure’s has a café serving delicious food, made fresh daily. Hi! My name is Macy, and this is a project that my grandmother, father, brother, and I have been working on together. Our goal is to share our property with families who have children that love to ride.
A quick story:
When I was a kid, one of my dad’s best friends’ parents let us use about 20 acres of their farm and woods, where we set up a little campground. We had a small camper, tents, a fire pit, and a track out in the woods where we rode dirt bikes, four-wheelers, and side-by-sides.
The best part was that we could keep our belongings and machines there during the week, so when the weekend came, all we had to do was show up and make memories with family and friends. To this day, we still talk about those times.
With that in mind, we want to rent this cabin out to families so they can experience the same thing. We’ve tried to make it as easy as possible for you to simply show up and focus on creating memories. We hope that keeping things simple will allow for more time riding and enjoying the woods.

For those who appreciate traditional camping, we provide tent sites alongside modern amenities, including 30/50 amp services. Our facilities ensure a comfortable stay, featuring clean bathroom facilities, a camp store stocked with essentials like firewood and ice, basketball courts, a refreshing swimming pool, and WiFi access at the main office.
Tall Sycamore Campground is renowned for its excellent fishing opportunities, making it a perfect spot for both short getaways and extended stays. Please note that for the 2021 season, we currently do not offer full hookup (FHU) sites with sewer connections. However, all available sites provide water and electric services, with a convenient dump station on-site for your use.
For guests staying multiple days, we offer a 'honeywagon' service that operates twice a week to empty your tanks for just $8 per service.

This is a nice travel trailer that has two bunk beds in the rear, a dinette and couch that converts to sleepers, and a front bedroom with a queen size bed. Sheets/blankets are supplied, clean towels for up to four people are provided. There is a fire pit, charcoal grill (you have to supply your own charcoal) and gazebo that you can use. Although you are on the lake, you do not have direct access to the lake. Parking is located on the grassy area across the road from the lot. The campground is between the highway and train, so you will hear both day and night with a lot of golf cart traffic. Guest must follow all campground rules, no refunds will be issued. You will have access to all the amenities of the park including use of the pools, beach, and park. Cost of the miniature golf course is not included. There is a restaurant at the park that serves fast food and deserts.

Weekend Trip to The Sugar Shack
We loved coming here and meeting the different farm animals, enjoying the quiet and the peaceful country side. The Sugar Shack is spacious inside (4 adults could sleep comfortably, two in the loft and two under if needed) but still very cozy feeling. We enjoyed using the wood stove for cooking and heat. The table for our meals and games was appreciated too. There is a basic pit toilet just behind the shack. The animals were also excited to greet us whenever we stepped outside. Melanie is a very attentive host and checked that we had everything we needed, she ran an electric cord to the shack for us, brought us a 5 gallon water jug and made sure to point out where we could get more firewood from.

Absolutely beautiful property. The farm animals, (dogs, cats, alpacas) added a special touch that animal lovers would enjoy.
Communication was exceptional. Tim was very nice about asking whether or not I preferred the barn lights left on or off before he went back inside.
I would definitely stay here again!

It was beautiful watching the sunset. over the alpacas in the field. As we sat by the fire making dinner. Friendly kitties almost took one home in our pocket… they were just so darn cute! But our Harry ( spoiled kitty) wanted nothing to do with the cute animals. Wonderful stuff purchased at their store that was made from the farm.

Heritage Farm was such a great getaway to slow down and soak in nature’s sounds and farm life! We enjoyed it all- from hiking in the woods with the goats to feeding and walking the alpacas! All experiences we have never had. Our daughters (ages 3 & 5) especially loved the huge slide down the hill and the adorable cats and kittens to play with. Tim and Beth are wonderful hosts! If you’re looking for a great place to unwind and reset, Heritage Farm is truly the place to escape to!

We absolutely loved our experience at Heritage Farms, the camping sites were very clean and well kept. There were a couple of farm cats that kept us company the whole time and they were as sweet as they could be. The bathrooms were very clean and well maintained, and always stocked with all of our needs. The host were extremely welcoming and very pleasant to talk to. I can’t say enough nice things about this place. There’s lots of alpacas that next time we would like to feed and mingle with. We will definitely be back and see ourselves spending quick getaways here in the future.

Easy going and friendly host, and we loved being around the dogs and cats and feeding out food scraps to the pigs rather than throwing them out. Got to take in an amazing sunset on the horizon of the fields on the west side of the farm.
We've camped here twice now and both times loved it. Would gladly return!

We had a wonderful stay. Nice to have a getaway like this so close to the city. We enjoyed the site- absolutely beautiful view of ponies and goats. Camper was worn and comfortable and very well stocked. There’s some highway noise but it becomes like white noise- I didn’t notice it really. The host was incredibly nice and helpful and communicative. We hope to return.

Our group of 10 college students had a wonderful time at Wayde and Beth's! They were both so kind, generous, and thoughtful. We enjoyed eggs, tomatoes, peppers, and honey all from their farm! We had planned on cooking calzones over a campfire that night, but there was a countywide burn ban in effect, so they let us use their bbq grill and the calzones came out perfectly! We launched our canoes in the Mississinewa River right in front of their property and they allowed us to park our car for self-transport at their place. They could not have been easier to work with and had excellent communication. We were also very pleasantly surprised that they had a toilet for us to use, which the whole group was very happy about! We highly recommend!

We had such a wonderful stay here! Derek is a very helpful and responsive host. My daughter absolutely loved all the animals — cats, dogs, horses, and goats — which made the trip extra special. We had such a wonderful three-night stay! The hosts were absolutely exceptional—so welcoming and kind that by the time we left, it felt like we were saying goodbye to friends. They went above and beyond, even providing toys and activities for our 15-month-old, which made the trip extra special for her. The amenities were fantastic, from the well-equipped outdoor kitchen to their thoughtful help with a few things we had forgotten to pack. The campsite itself was private and beautifully maintained, with peaceful trails to walk and explore right from our spot. Our toddler loved playing with the fun animals on the property and had the best time, and honestly, so did we. This was such a memorable trip, and we’re so grateful to have found such amazing hosts!

Very cool little campground. You can tell they have put some work into making a beautiful space. There is a pond in the center with lots of ducks, geese, cranes, etc. they also have a shower house with flush toilets, shower, sink for dishes, and trash. They even have some nice walking trails. Sites were pretty private and even if the place was full you would still have more privacy than most state parks. There is definitely some highway noise since they are so close to 30 but if you don’t mind that I would definitely recommend staying here!

Such an incredible spot! The owners used their tractor to haul my stuff over to the entrance of my campsite! Very grateful for how friendly and flexible they were! They had a fire going for me when I arrived so I wouldn’t have to set it up in the dark. Loved the location and setup!
