We moved to our 3 1/2 acre property in 2012 to escape town life and to enjoy a more simple family life. Nestled among the trees, our home is the perfect setting to relax and enjoy what God created - singing birds, fragrant flowers, colorful sunsets, gigantic ancient sycamores, and rushing creek waters. We're excited to share this beautiful area, especially the adorable shed and gardens we created for others to experience the peace of God. It's our hope that many will discover the tranquility we have come to appreciate here. What to expect
Cabin
You'll have this Hipcamp all to yourself.

Campfires allowed
Firewood provided, firepit, private. We offer both a firepit in the Shed garden area and a campfire located a short hike to the creek on our property. There is plenty of firewood stacked and ready for guests to use at no charge.
Toilet available
Portable toilet. There is an OUTDOOR camping bucket toilet near the outdoor heated shower for guests to use in the warmer months. An INDOOR camping bucket toilet is available for use inside the shed (used primarily for colder months, but is available year round). For both toilets, guests are asked to discard their toilet bag each day of their stay in our metal trashcan in the garage.
No pets
Potable water available
Bottled water or jugs. Bottled water is provided for drinking and for the coffee maker in the Shed. Prior to freezing temperatures, there is also an outdoor sink that provides safe well water. There is also a sink inside the shed that functions using water containers and a foot pump. This sink is available year round.
Showers available
Hot water . A WARM/HOT OUTDOOR shower is available during months after/prior to freezing temperatures. A HOT INDOOR SHOWER is available year round at the Strauss-Peabody Aquatics and Fitness Center located 6 min away ($5 fee gains access to shower and pools/hot tub/sauna OR access to shower and fitness equipment).
Bins available
Recycling bin, trash bin. They are located in the garage which separates the Shed Retreat from our personal home.
Cooking equipment present
Private, fridge, freezer, cookware, cooking utensils, cutlery, sink or other dishwashing station. These things are all located in the garage, just 5 steps away from the Shed. There is also a microwave and electric skillet for making fresh eggs gathered from our chickens (or any other food you desire to bring along). The garage does house our vehicles but that's the only way the space is shared.
Picnic table present
Two picnic tables are able on our property. One is located a short distance from the shed near the parking area and chicken coop. The other is down the hill near the creek where another fire pit and benches are located.

Overall great experience and hosts were super nice. The outdoors bathroom/shower wasn’t for me too many insects flying around for me personally. But great back was provided at the local aquatic center nearby. Thank you

Perfect stay to get away
The Shed Retreat
Enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere of the entire stay. We stayed just one night, but the thoughtful touches were very much appreciated. We built a fire in the fire pit with help from Kurt as my Girl Scout days are long past. Heidi and their beautiful daughters were friendly and busy following a graduation party just the night before. The grounds are perfect in the sense of natural beauty that are tended to for enjoyment. We took advantage of the country road and walked towards town to see the covered bridge. We weren’t disappointed. Our evening after the fire was spent playing a friendly game of Battleship and I now have the title of beating my husband for the first time ever. Thankful for the time away and for Kurt and Heidi. Lovely hosts who followed a path that helps many in the perfect way. Oh and those chickens! The fresh eggs! Worth every single moment.

The Shed Retreat
The courtyard, as I call it, is the first area you see. It is very peaceful. The landscaping makes it feel very welcoming. The court yard is fully shaded so that was nice in the heat of the day. Wood was provided so we lit a small fire and roasted marshmallows. The Shed is also peaceful and cozy. And smelled fresh. The bed was very comfortable. The air-conditioning kept the Shed at a comfortable temp, day and night. We enjoyed the warm water of the outdoor shower. The robes, towels and wash clothes smelled fresh and were very soft. It was great having a microwave available for our use. We only stayed one night so we didn't really need the fridge and other cooking resources. But it's a great amenity as needed for longer stays. We highly recommend a stay at The Shed! Our friends may take a retreat here. And we will likely come again. Thank you Kurt and Heidi!

The Shed was so beautiful. It was quaint, peaceful and a nice change of pace. We explored all over town. The Shed had everything you would need and the hosts were always responsive and welcoming. The little kitty was such a sweetheart too which only added to the greatness of the stay. I would definitely stay again!

Lovely Place to Recharge
The Shed Retreat
What a gem! Heidi and Kurt have created an oasis of a retreat in a beautiful setting. A rustic place to stay with modern comforts. We were welcomed with amazing peanut butter chocolate muffins - they were perfect with the coffee supplied for the morning, sitting on the porch watching the day unfold. The prior evening we enjoyed dinner in town at MainView and made a campfire at the site. The outdoor lighting added coziness. The two kittens are the cutest and sweetest! The entire property is beautiful and we only wished we were able to stay longer.

The Shed Retreat
I thoroughly enjoyed everything during my stay, Kurt and Heidi were kind and thoughtful hosts, I was traveling solo, they extended an invite to Easter services at their church, It was a beautiful service and I felt welcomed. The space is comfortable, the bed perfect. The space heater kept everting cozy. I enjoyed the firepit and collecting fresh eggs for breakfast. I will definitely be a return visitor. Looking forward to kayaking.

My husband and I absolutely loved our stay at The Shed! For an old goat shed, this place was amazing! Our hosts were quick to respond and answer any questions we had. It was so cozy and relaxing and everything we were hoping for to celebrate our 3rd anniversary! When we arrived, they had cozy robes & delicious welcome muffins, firewood & kindling stacked and ready to go, and the friendliest "welcome committee" of 3 lovable cats there to greet us. If you are looking for a quiet, cozy space with a few extra creature comforts to getaway and recharge, restore, or reconnect, then this is definitely worth looking into! 10/10 would recommend and will probably stay there again someday!

A Sweet Retreat!
The Shed Retreat
My first HipCamp experience, and it was GREAT! The Shed was perfect for me, and my only regret is that I only booked 1 night. As they describe, The Shed is behind their garage, and secluded from the main house and the neighbors. I felt like I was in a sweet little cottage in the woods, with Adirondak chairs and a bench surrounding a fire pit, and 2 sweet kitties to welcome me and keep me company. (Cats aren't allowed in The Shed, so if you have allergies, no worries.) The Shed itself was just lovely, with a sitting area, Kuerig-type coffee machine (and so many choices of tea and coffee!), and a very comfortable bed. There's a curtained area in the corner if you decide you want to use the camp toilet in the room, rather than the outdoor camp toilet, which is just a few feet away from the entrance to The Shed. They had WiFi available in The Shed, and clear instructions on how to use it, as well as informatino about local places to visit if you want to go into town. I didn't meet Kurt and Heidi during my time there, but their texts were clear and friendly, and they seemed genuinely interested in providing warm and welcoming hospitality during my stay. I would definitely recommend The Shed for personal retreats, or just an overnight stay. I travel a lot between MN and PA, and finding a place like this to break up the trip was a real gift. I hope to be able to visit again, and I hope you gt to stay here too!

The shed was everything we expected and more. Kurt and Heidi were exceptional hosts kayaking on the hill River was awesome! We will definitely come back in the spring and spend more time! The only problem we had was it was too short!

Fantastic
The Shed Retreat
It was a perfect and unique experience for my husband’s and my getaway. We needed quiet and nature without the work of a tent and such. They had everything we needed and more available which allowed for some needed relaxation even for just one night stay. Also loved the nearby town feel with all the brick buildings and coffee shop!

The Shed Retreat
My college friend of 30 yrs and I stayed at Kurt & Heidi’s Shed Retreat for a girlfriend’s get-away weekend and had a fabulous time! The Shed Retreat is the most adorable place and has everything you need for an awesome “glamping” experience! It’s nestled on a beautiful, shady patch of land surrounded by gorgeous tall trees, singing birds, friendly farm cats, an awesome fire pit, woods, and a nearby creek. It is beautifully decorated inside with the nicest and most personal touches! The Shed is close to Kurt & Heidi’s residence, yet also very private. We stayed 2 nights and unfortunately, it rained a good bit of our time there, but the sun did come out for a few hours and Kurt & Heidi were very accommodating with helping us arrange a kayak trip down the nearby Eel River (which I would highly recommend, btw!) They are both very kind and gracious hosts…. My friend didn’t have the best shoes for the excursion, and Heidi was even kind enough to lend her a pair of hers! I would highly recommend this cute little place to anyone wanting a refreshing get-away in the great outdoors! :)

Unique experience
The Shed Retreat
My husband and I enjoyed the stay at Kurt and Heidi’s land. It was completely different. Being away from the city was much needed. It was a chance to reconnect as a couple and it was the perfect 30th birthday getaway for my husband. We made a campfire, Sat with two amazing kittens and took a walk in the creek. The river is perfect and a sweet reminder of what beauty nature holds. We had privacy yet Kurt and Heidi were available for any concerns or questions we had. Definitely plan on returning soon. And the chickens were great too! Thank you !

Cozy and Quaint
The Shed Retreat
Loved the shed decor and over all cozy vibe! Chocolate cupcakes and hand written notes upon arrival were an added social touch that made the welcome to the Shed Retreat even sweeter. The bucket toilets were an interesting experience but props for a creative solution that doesn’t require extra plumbing ☺️ Overall a very enjoyable getaway weekend!

We had a wonderful time! Kurt and Heidi were incredibly kind and hospitable. One of us were able to overcome a traumatic experience by going kayaking successful and Kurt was a great help in orchestrating the kayaking trip. Definitely recommend the shed!!

The Shed Retreat
This was a great stay! Kurt and Heidi were very welcoming and friendly and the place was very cozy. We enjoyed a relaxing kayak trip, nice campfire and playing with the kittens. Having a toilet and shower as well as access to a kitchenette made it a very fancy glamping experience and there was a good amount of privacy considering it was just behind their garage. Thanks again! We had a great time!

Peaceful Retreat

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at The Shed Retreat very much. It was a clean, comfortable, and relaxing space. The property and creek were beautiful. We took advantage of the bicycles, and rode into town one day. Would also recommend kayaking on the Eel River, which we thoroughly enjoyed. If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful escape, this is it.

A Perfect Place to Relax
The Shed Retreat
The Shed Retreat exceeded all expectations for a quiet, peaceful retreat to clear our minds and renew our spirits. Working in healthcare and with young children, life can become loud, busy, and chaotic, and we were wanting a place to rest our heads away from the busyness of the world. When we arrived, we received a friendly welcome from the hosts. The shed was quaint and clean, readied for us with A/C on, coffee in stock, and delicious brownies baked. We enjoyed the fresh around surrounding us, walking path to the water, multiple outdoor seating areas, and fire pit with plentiful wood. The roaming, friendly cats and baby kittens were added bonuses to keep us entertained! The hospitality extended by the hosts was refreshing as well: ensuring that we had what we needed and extending invitations to help make our stay even better. We are excited to come back another time to continue to adventure in this perfect place of peace!

Relaxing and romantic

We were only there for 2 night but it was quiet and relaxing and romantic. The town is so beautiful and everyone was so friendly. Kurt and Heidi are amazing hosts. We are looking forward to planning more trips to North Manchester and to The Shed Retreat.

The Shed Retreat
My stay at the Shed Retreat was everything I had hoped for and more. I stayed in the shed after Thanksgiving and was pleasantly surprised with how warm and cozy the shed was. I took a bike ride into town, enjoyed spending time by the river, and built multiple fires. Kurt and Heidi were welcoming and made my stay comfortable with thoughtful treats throughout my stay. I truly enjoyed my stay and hope to stay again.

I loved every second of my stay away from home! It was peacful and beautiful! And i LOVED the kitties! They greet you and love scritches and snuggles. The atmosphere of the Shed retreat is amazing and i would absolutely stay again!

Quiet, relaxing, peaceful
The Shed Retreat
Quiet and cozy. Great for a couple to “Glamp”. Private enclosed outdoor shower. Offers outside activities, but was raining during our stay. We highly recommend and will go back again sometime .

My boyfriend and i stayed here for a weekend and we absolutely loved it !!! Even cuter than the pictures!! Kurt and Heidi were extremely inviting and made everything really easy. I would definitely recommend this retreat to a friend, in fact i already did 🤗
