We just retired from Active Duty Air Force! My ancestors have owned the land our NC cabins sit on since 1836. In fact, my mother grew up there after my Grandfather returned from WWII when there was no electricity and the outhouse was a bench over the creek. I grew up hiking the mountains with my brothers and our BB guns and my Uncle Frank at our family reunions. In 2005 he deeded us a parcel of land and we built our first cabin - Smawlie. We love to come to the cabin and Hike the trails on our own property, and of course, the world famous ones that join them, namely the Bartram and the Appalachian Trails. As you explore the lake, the trails, the rivers, and the mountain roads you'll see why our ancestors settled here. In 2018 - we bought the remainder of Uncle Frank's land - and in his honor built our second cabin - Frank's Landing. Also in that year I started managing my brother Bill's cabin. When we were stationed in Alaska for 6 heavenly years - we purchased a remote parcel of property and have slowly begun to develop it. We just completed building our cabin there. We absolutely loved this place! Kevin does an amazing job of not only making you feel welcome but he doesn’t miss any of the small details that elevate his property beyond just a cool glamping spot to something so much more, from the fresh baked muffins each morning, to the games/wifi, to the super clean/modern bathrooms. And of course the Teepee’s are amazing. It’s so very clear that much love and effort went into making Black Bear Glamping what it is today. 10/10

I loved the tent of Gary’s land. It was winter, so we could see the mountains, while still feeling secluded. The breakfast was amazing and Gary gave us great ideas of places to visit. His puppies even came to say hi!

We had a great stay at Hertzen Platz. The tent was very spacious and as comfortable as the photos and previous guests conveyed. Gary was a welcoming host who clearly cares about the land and delivering a top-notch experience, breakfast was awesome as well!

Weekend Trip to Tumble Down Shack

Richie was a great host and the shack was cute. The land is just uphill of the host's main house. You don't have to worry about the shared property because he respects your privacy. He said hello to us when we arrived and then we saw him again just before we checked out. It rained each night we stayed here and the shack kept us warm and dry.

4 nights at Creekside Cabin at Lake Hartwell

I have to say, this was hands-down the best organized, cleanest, easiest, most amenity-laden cabin I’ve ever rented. So many details, from the embroidered robes to the bound book of instructions and recommendations. From the kitchen appointments to the coffee. There are really too many amazing little things to list here, but you could really tell the owners absolutely care about the experience their property provides. And we went panning for gold in the creek below the back deck and even found a little! It was incredibly comfortable and lots of fun. Just make sure you’re ok with stairs and aren’t too large to fit the spiral to the loft. I honestly cannot think of a single improvement to make. Didn’t even matter that it rained so much, because there was plenty left to do inside.

Our stay at Hertzen Platz was absolutely wonderful! The host was warm and welcoming, making sure everything was perfect from start to finish. The tent was cozy and beautifully set up… it was comfortable, clean, and full of thoughtful touches. The surrounding area was stunning, peaceful, and the perfect place to relax and unwind. Breakfast was delicious!! We truly loved every part of our stay and would definitely return again.

Enjoyed the grounds, very peaceful. Decent location. Comes with everything you need for nice vacation. Fridge, microwave, crock pot, coffee maker and Kurig. A great place to enjoy sunrises. We would definitely come back and stay again.

It was an awesome experience staying at Black Bear Lodge!. Kevin greeted us with a basket of snacks and showed us around the area. The bathrooms are immaculately clean. Before we checked out, Kevin made sure he baked us strawberry muffins. It was delicious.

The land is beautiful here. I loved sitting by the creek and identifying the array of different plant and tree species. Gary is a wonderful host. We shared open minded conversation and he prepared us a delicious seed oil free, dairy free, gluten free breakfast, with ease. We enjoyed our stay.
