Hi, I'm Curt. My wife Ani, son Fitch, and I are your average, everyday nonconformists who have been running an experiment. We are trying to figure out if a family can use their own hands and some grit to handcraft a life that you don't need a vacation from. Or better yet, that you would vacation to. Have we done that? You be the judge.
About 4 years ago we left our South Florida handcrafting furniture business to pursue this new goal. We set out to build an inspiring experience in simple, eco-friendly living that would find a harmony between some of the old fashioned world that we'd found ourselves missing, and the handful of modern advancements that were actually beneficial. All while keeping it classy.
At Heirloom Hamlet, you will see us designing unique, functional cabins, installing solar, composting, planting, and building toilets that are better for our environment. We're bread baking, pasta making, timber milling, woodworking, clay-forming and metal pounding. The goal is to evolve into a small world of self-reliance and harmony with nature. Ani and I are big believers in being mindful and respectful of our environment wherever reasonable. So, we are incorporating both alternative and municipal utilities as they can fit into our homestead design and limited budget.
Through good design, our goal is to show just how "normal" small living can feel. We all have personal priorities and those will vary greatly, and that's okay. But no person should be so self-absorbed that we have completely shut out the importance of being respectfully mindful to the earth and to our fellowman. After all, if we don't have that, what do we have?
To be completely transparent, though, the creatives in us also would like it if we inspired onlookers to possibly look at their own space and life a little bit differently. We've personally found it to be so fulfilling to distinguish real desires and needs from the ones we've been groomed to pursue, and then work to make them a reality. We've found it energizing to witness our fellowmen and women pursuing a dream. We'd like to be a stimulating memory along any person's journey.
Visiting with us, we sure hope our guests don't expect to find a corporate approach to life here, and that they can appreciate some of our old-fashioned ways. That, as our paths cross, we won't be held to a business-first standard that we have worked hard to remove ourselves from. We realize everyone has a right to be themselves, but our presentation at Heirloom Hamlet has been purposefully designed to be a refreshing hideaway from the norm.

Our beautiful unique property has been in the family for 3 generations. Over the years, our family, plus artists, musicians, & writers have come here to refresh and get inspiration from nature. But with Hipcamp, we've opened up for others to enjoy.
We limit the number of guests staying here to no more than 10, but the daily average is only 4.
We have walking trails, a pond where you can kayak, relax on the dock, or feed the huge fish (sorry no fishing allowed.) We knew our property was a special place when we found it during our search when we decided to move our alpaca farm from FL to GA. We have raised alpaca for last 17 years. They are a fiber producing animal (similar to sheep) as well as just a beautiful animal, have great personalities and it is amazing to watch the herd dynamics. We have 2 very spoiled donkeys (sister and brother-gelded) - have had them for about 18 years. We are committed to provide the best care possible for our animals and love to educate people about alpacas (and donkeys). There is a large covered deck overlooking the alpaca pastures - come hang out with them. We have a farm store onsite with various items for sale made out of the alpaca fiber (socks, scarves, sweaters, hats, plushies, etc). As part of your stay, we provide a short alpaca farm tour!
There is a 2 acre pond on our property which is adjacent to the campsite area separated by a fence. The campsite area is located away from our main house and the alpaca barn. We knew our property was a special place when we found it during our search when we decided to move our alpaca farm from FL to GA. We have raised alpaca for last 17 years. They are a fiber producing animal (similar to sheep) as well as just a beautiful animal, have great personalities and it is amazing to watch the herd dynamics. Fortunate for us—we were not in a rush to leave and the space was available through late morning to get to know Will & Mo (and their brand new puppy).

Our stay at Heirloom Hamlet was nothing short of picturesque, morning fog coming up through the trees and an incredible old oak at the center.
Our timing did not allow us to fully enjoy the property but that tiny bit we saw will definitely have us coming back.
The dog has decided that this is her new favorite place and did not want to leave.
The Small Bathhouse has some really nice touches that really showcase how much Curt and his family value hosting as well as creating a very eco-concious space that reminds us of the importance of all doing our part. One thing we do know- this may not be right for some folks and that’s ok, but definitely a place that we will visit again.

I appreciate the opportunity to camp at Montanna's HipCamp. The primary purpose of my visit was to camp and sleep in a safe place while I was participating in a lottery draw hunting trip at nearby Coosawhatchie WMA.
Montanna provided clear and accurate directions to the property prior to my arrival. He also gave me a heads up concerning the rough road conditions leading to his property.
I arrived later than I had planned but had no problems getting to gate at the property. It was dark and raining but the gated access was easily easily entered. I pulled in and drove down the fence line to the designated camp site, turned my truck around and parked on level ground. His wife came out and greeted me, gave me a quick but thorough orientation to the amenities.
I met Montanna the next evening after returning from my days hunt. He showed me "The Man Cave" and I have to say that it is indeed impressive. I won't spoil the surprise with details but it brought back many happy boyhood memories. Montanna took his passion from a boyhood hobby and turned it into a passionate, professional and lucrative adult hobby that he is proud to share with those fortunate to be invited in.
Since I was primarily there to hunt for 3 chilly and rainy days, I did not experience the other amenities available. I did see the nice duck pond, the tire swing hanging from the oak trees, the fire pit and picnic area and an extra bonus of hearing 3 Barred Owls talking during the night.

We wished we got there a bit earlier to explore more. This is Lia I am 9 years old it was the first time I experienced a compost toilet and I thought it was good for the environment it was a bit challenging to use at first but when you get used to it it’s awesome. In the morning I got to spilt wood in half with a hatchet ! Kurt our host was super nice, very knowledgeable and did an amazing job at building his homestead. my seven-year-old brother did not want to get out of the outdoor shower because it was amazingly hot. We had an outstanding experience.
