Most of the roads are accessible in any small car, but some roads require 4x4 (they're marked with a sign). We have a bath house with toilets, showers, and sinks and even offer hot water! Our well and cabins are all solar-powered as we are not on the electric grid. The Cove consists of 12 acres with a tributary stream and spring fed ponds less than a half mile from the Toccoa River. It was originally the water source for the surrounding properties prior to the city installing a water system. It is completely private and unspoiled nature, with about a mile of walking trails throughout. The Mountaintop is a 3 acre high elevation site bordering 140 acres of undisturbed woods and is also very close to the Toccoa River. The river is controlled flow and usually at low water from dawn to about 2 pm, ideal for fishing or swimming/wading/boulder bopping. The River release schedule is available online at the website TVA.gov. The River has swift current when the dam is opened for release, usually daily. This property is conveniently located in Mineral Bluff, Georgia 30559, just 4 miles off the 4-lane highway (Highway 515/76) and just a short drive to Blue Ridge, Georgia; Blairsville, Georgia; Murphy, North Carolina, McCaysville, Georgia and Copper Hill, Tennessee. It is a paved road drive all the way to the entrance. It is located just a few miles from the center of downtown Blue Ridge with art galleries, many restaurants, brew pubs, shopping, the Blue Ridge Brewing Company, Mercier Orchard, the Blue Ridge Scenic Railroad, and more! It's a great place to quietly watch nesting osprey and great-blue heron as well as an important feeding area for migrating warblers. IMPORTANT: Maclellan Island is accessible by boat ONLY. You will need to provide your own transportation to and from the island, either using your own boat or by renting a kayak/SUP from a local outfitter. We recommend renting kayaks from L2 Outdoors who launches from Coolidge Park. Maclellan Island’s earliest inhabitants were Indigenous People whose island community was likely an extension or suburb of Citico, a nearby village. Farmed in the 1800’s and early 1900’s, the island was plowed for many years and largely free of the trees which shade it today. Floods have covered the island from time to time and drove away numerous early settlers including one early farmer, Abel Kesterson, who survived rising waters in 1867 only by holding onto the horns of his cow as they swam to safety. The island eventually passed through the hands of several prominent companies as well as a number of more rambunctious inhabitants. Finally in 1954 Maclellan Island was donated to the Chattanooga Audubon Society by Robert J. Maclellan for preservation as a wildlife refuge. If you'll be arriving by a motorized boat, you will need to use a public boat ramp. The closest one is at the Tennessee River Park. As you ascend Sand Mountain, the vegetation thins revealing spectacular views of Lookout Mountain especially in the fall & winter months after the leaves have fallen. At the very top of the property are 30+ ft high cliffs with a cave. It has a colorful collection of lichen growing in it and we have named it our 'Mandala cave'. The cave is great for meditation. Rejuvenating guided hikes to the cliffs & caves are available upon request. This is raw land & raw forest. If you enjoy bush craft, there is plenty of material for you to build a lean-to, tipi, or structure of choice. Trees range from poplar to multiple species of oak. Natural wildlife include deer, wild turkeys, scorpions, and ticks. You're welcome to bring fluffy as we've never seen any predators, but there is a slight chance there could be some around. A lost animal on the mountain could be near impossible to find. We have 2 male cats. Unfortunately, the Earth does what she wants and weather forecasts can't be relied upon. We've had sunny days that have been forecasted to rain and un-predicted downpours. It can be raining at the top or the bottom of the mountain but not at the campsites in the middle.

Perfect for rugged camping but with shelter & a shower! Feels secluded, but you still have cell service & civilization nearby in case you need anything. Also lots of historical sites nearby. Caught a few fish in the pond & enjoyed cooking over the fire. Cabin & bathroom were clean and owners were extremely nice! Would love to come back in summer so I can enjoy the flowers!

There are so many things to love about Candy Mountain Goat Farm. The Upper RV pad was lovely, private space complete with water and electric. Scott is a friendly, helpful host who took time to welcome us, help us set up camp and introduce us to the friendly goats, chickens and the 2 very friendly pups who also call this little farm their home. It rained on us most of the visit but we still had a fun time shopping goat soaps and lotions in the farm store, walking the trails on the property, cooking up the fresh eggs Scott gathered for us just this morning, watched a movie on the shared Plex server, caught up on blog posts with the free WiFi, and gazing at the beautiful trees all around us.

Campsite #3 (as all the sites) was right on the creek, so we enjoyed the sound of rushing water during our stay. We had shade along the creek where the fire ring was situated, and open level mowed field where we pitched our tent. The owner also has some portable chicken coops in the large field, which we were pleased to see since we’re a fan of chickens and eggs, too! The chickens were neither noisy nor smelly, by the way. It was nice to have a toilet next to the site which is shared with other campers, but we never had a wait to use it.

4 nights at Candy Mountain Goat Farm

Scott and Nancy are quite hospitable. They eagerly share space and offer experiences with their goats and chickens, all of which seem well tended. The farm dogs, Lily and Clay, are friendly and yet not intrusive. Fire pits and yard games were available. Our site was level and perfect for our Class B. We did daily driving excursions off property and the return setup every night was just drive up and plug in - perfect! There were some tent campers on sites below us, and all campers seemed content. The small, full restroom attached to the owner's home was sufficient, and, conditions permitting, a couple of options are offered. We enjoyed our stay on Stacy's land! It was quiet and peaceful. We were the only ones there so we had our pick of sites too. I would definitely recommend!

5 nights at Your Toccoa River Cove!

This is such a gorgeous and relaxing spot. The cabin is clean and roomy and the outhouse is pretty nice lol! One of the best parts is that the dogs got to be off leash around the site. It was a perfect way to spend a few chilly October night. We had everything we needed: a fire pit to keep warm, cozy blankets in the cabin, and forest sounds to keep us company. I highly recommend giving this spot a try. George is a phenomenal host who was available immediately when I called him with a question. 10/10 would come back!!

3 nights at Shackalakin What's Crakin RV Park

This was the best spot I have camped at in years. Wide open fields full of deer and turkeys while all alone on far enough away from other people yet close enough to go into a small town for any missing or needed supplies. The area was well kept, had a string light setup, a nice fire pit, and lots of scenery. 10/10 visit, would and will definitely return in the future. Also of note was the host answers calls even as late as 9-10pm and is pleasantly cordial.

Weekend Trip to Creekside Bliss

I enjoyed the sound of rushing water from the creek directly behind site 4. We were able to get firewood as an extra, and it was very nice having a warm fire as the night got chilly. I was mostly using this trip as an opportunity to try out some new backpacking gear, but found this spot to be rather serene and accommodating. The chickens are fun, too.

Weekend Trip to Fireside Camp + Lodge

I loved the fire pits and picnic tables. The covered shared space is fantastic! I would give more love to the hang board area, but its a great start. Room for yoga or whatever in there. $6 builds a single descent campfire.

3 nights at LittleRiver.US Moto Camp

We loved tent camping at Little River Adventure Center. Access to a shower (during seasons where pipes won’t freeze) is something we aren’t used to, but warmly welcome! We feel like the sites offer a good amount of privacy especially if you get the first pick. We chose the very last site and it’s definitely the most secluded, and the easement allowed great stargazing. Great hiking access to DeSoto State Park and Little River Canyon. We also drove 45 minutes over to Cloudland Canyon which was another great park to hike.
