This property has been in my family for decades. My Husband and I were married under the oaks and have had our share of campfires out there.
Down a hidden gravel drive with wetlands on either side you will find a completely fenced in field surrounded by pine, oak, and swamp maple trees. There are two ponds located on the property both stocked with bass, bluegill, and sunfish. The front pond is home to many natural Florida wildlife and is a great location to bird watch.
Located a few miles from Brooksville and the Suncoast Parkway, this quiet and peaceful setting is just 5 minutes from the parking area and trailhead for the Suncoast Trail and 10 miles from the famous Weeki Wachee Springs, where you can spend the day at the local park or float down the river with the manatees.
Withlacoochee State Park and other natural preserves with trail access and kayaking are only a short distance away, and Dames Cave, Homosassa Springs, and Chasawiska Springs are all within a ~20-minute drive as well. Spending a day at the beach is easy with plenty of options along the Nature Coast. We’re also less than an hour from Tampa and Clearwater and two hours from Orlando.
A perfect weekend get-away for anyone looking to “unplug,” Smokey Acres is also a great stop for those passing through the area. We are a close distance to many racing, livestock, boating and fishing events. We have no problem accommodating whatever you’re towing!

Second time staying here.
I had plans to stay at another state campsite, but three gate code was not working. Luckily, on a moment notice, Smokey Acres was available.
The campsite was clean, quiet, beautiful. Bathroom facilities were decent. Site was level. Slight noise from traffic. No complaints. Its an easy weekend get away.
My wife was able to set up her telescope for some night photography and I got plenty of reading time.
I'm pretty sure a 3rd stay will happen in the next few months.

Spent my New Years at Smokey Acres and it will now be a tradition for me. I had a blast! Such a beautiful and peaceful setting next to the pond. I will definitely book another stay at this site in the near future. I can’t say enough of how much I truly enjoy my time at this campground. We enjoyed the beauty and peace and spaciousness of the sites. The bathroom/shower were a bit more of an adventure than we were expecting. Bring your own toilet paper and beware that flushing the toilet will shut off the shower! Otherwise we enjoyed this unique place!

We love Smokey Acres! This was our second time staying there. Large sites, great trail, close to fun activities to explore in the area. Our site was on the pond with a nice picnic table, fire pit and flat site for our camper. We highly recommend a visit to Smokey Acres.

Another relaxing stay at Smokey Acres! RV site 4 is very spacious and close to the fire wood and facilities. I extended my weekend stay without any issues. If you are looking for a relaxing, easy going, at your own pace campground, this is the place. 😊☀️

I can’t begin to express my gratitude to Hilary and her family for sharing this little slice of paradise with us campers. Whether it’s camping in my rv or a tent, I have fallen in-love with Smokey Acres! The campground is well kept, the amenities are awesome and its obvious the owners love their property and the campers. I was able to book an additional night while staying at the campground this weekend. I just can’t get enough!
I’ve already booked for New Years as well.

It’s a nice spot and convenient to everything we needed in Brooksville. The driveway in was a little intimidating because it’s narrow and we can’t back up with the rv and car in tow but we got in and we were pleasantly surprised by the place.

The driveway is very rough on the way in. A beautiful spot once you got back in where the sites were. We use a 38' travel trailer and was able to get in and out. The electric service on our site was weak but we managed. Overall a good experience.

We had a wonderful time visiting Smokey Acres. Our visit was cut short by a family emergency back home, (nothing bad), my sister had a baby but it did cause us to leave earlier than expected. I’ve already booked another visit and plan on another booking before the year is over. This campground offers plenty of space per site and a picturesque setting. Being a Florida camping enthusiast, I can say Smokey Acres is the best I’ve found in this area of Florida. Safe, spacious, and plenty of amenities! I’m looking forward to many more visits! Thank you for sharing your property!!!

The first night I was just the only one and it was so peaceful, loads of room at each site!
The second night someone else was there but you couldn’t even tell because of the spacing of the sites!
Easy, no stress, simple camping is my favourite, ended up booking a second night just because I slept so well 😍

Where to go
Lake Kissimmee State Park
Drive 1.5 hours east of Tampa to Lake Kissimmee State Park. Spend the day conquering the 10-mile long Buster Island Paddling Trail by kayak, or head to Joe Overstreet Landing for bird watching. Then, find a range of camping accommodations, from primitive campsites accessed by foot to drive-in campsites with laundry facilities, dump stations, and full hookups. For more luxury, go glamping in pioneer-style canvas tents with queen-sized beds and air-conditioning.
Hontoon Island State Park
Two hours northeast of Tampa, Hontoon Island State Park is ready to wow campers with its natural scenery. The island is only accessible by boat, but there is a public ferry system and a marina. On the island, campers will find canoe, kayak, and bike rentals, as well as a hike to Bear Tree Landing, which features a 300-year-old living oak tree. Rent a rustic cabin with bunk beds, picnic tables, outdoor grills, and electricity. Or, opt for a tent campsite with shared restrooms and heated showers. The park does not allow motorized vehicles, so RV campers will need to enjoy the island as a day trip.
Fort De Soto Park
With over 1,000 acres of land, including seven miles of waterfront and three miles of sandy beaches, Fort De Soto Park is consistently rated one of America’s top beaches. Wander to North Beach for swimming, or take your furry friend to Dog Park Beach where they can run off-leash. Boaters will also appreciate the 800-foot launch area in addition to several floating docks. Then set up at campgrounds within the park offering grills, potable water, electricity hookups, laundry facilities, flush toilets, and showers. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance, and it’s recommended to book ahead.
When to go
Due to its subtropical climate, Tampa experiences a wet season and a dry season. Summers last from June until October and often see temperatures in the 90s, along with thunderstorms. The winters, running from November until May, are dryer and a little bit cooler, with an average high of 71°F in January. The weather in spring and fall is warm with a low chance of rain—a prime forecast for hiking and swimming.
