Campsites are on a small horse farm located just 4 miles from downtown St Augustine and 5 miles from Vilano Beach. Many hiking and water activities within 30 minutes. You select the space you where you wish to set up camp. The entrance off the dirt road is tricky for large rigs or trailers more than 35' may not have easy access. Our sites offer potable water, a shower, picnic tables, a toilet, wifi, trash disposal, space for campfires, and we are pet friendly! We can accommodate tents, RVs, and trailers. Our guests love staying here: "Camping at Gayle’s property was an amazing experience. We shared the field with 3 other campers but there was still plenty of room between sites. Land is flat and has fire pit spaces and BBQ grills. Outdoor shower was appreciated even though we didn’t use it & it was great to have the port-o-potty on site. The best part was getting to see the animals!"

Here, the pace slows down, allowing visitors to unwind and immerse themselves in the simple pleasures of rural life. We just finished (well 2 years ago) traveling the country in an RV with five of our 7 kids (oldest two were in college) and we had a terrible time finding places to stay in Saint Augustine when we came home to visit. I hope that we can offer some nice people a safe and beautiful place to park their rig. Things to do: The property is near the historic St. Augustine, a fun walkable/bikeable city, lots of state parks and of course an awesome beach! We also have 3 units inside the lodge for the people who need just a step up from glamping, but not quite the whole hotel experience. We have a small fishing lake in the back yard (unfenced). There is a national bird rookery preserve a few blocks away so the bird watching is wonderful. There is an alligator farm and a dolphin aquarium on the island., as well as a historic continuous working light house. Our pad is just across the Bridge of Lions (2 miles) from the Oldest USA city, St. Augustine, Fl. The historic Fountain of Youth is there along with many other attractions. We have two level paver RV Pads. They both have electric, black and grey water cleanout, fast high speed internet (full hookup). They each have private patios for picnics, socializing, and relaxing. Pad 1 accommodates an RV up to up to 28' in length. Pad 2 accommodates an RV up to 34' in length. Both sites have full RV hookups. We accept Class B, Class C, Small 5th Wheel, Pop-up Campers, Vans and Travel Trailers. Sorry, we can't take Class A and no tent camping is allowed. There is also a large back deck with picnic area overlooking the small fishing lake in the back yard. We enjoy meeting fellow travelers and sharing our paradise island. We are LGBTQ friendly. Our neighborhood is quiet and safe. The location has easy access to great adventures, history and wonderful memories may be made here. Pets are welcome on leash. accompanied by an adult, Each additional pet (over 1 pet) is $5. additional fee. There is an off leash park two blocks away. The beaches are also pet friendly. Hawthorne Backwoods Sanctuary

The lovely open woodland of Hawthorne Backwoods Sanctuary was a pasture in the 1970's. Where there are large live oaks on the property, one can imagine those trees stood in the pastures of the 1970's and provided shade for the cattle there. By the time we purchased this property in 2017, it was a young regenerating hardwood forest. The previous owners did not inhabit or pollute this land. We have found very little trash or garbage here, only charred wood when we dig down several feet. You'll have to make up your own story about that. Our aim is to keep this forest healthy, and allow it to continue to provide shelter and food for the creatures that buzz, burrow, nest, forage, browse, hunt and pass through here regularly. Hawthorne Backwoods Sanctuary has been a healthy and regenerative place for us, and we feel honored to offer guests an opportunity to rest and to feel the generous forest energy that has settled us here. Learn more about this land: A hardwood forest with a few parking spots off of the driveway in wooded areas between our homesite and the access road County Road 2082. Armadillo, Deer, Turkey, Hawks, Crows and morning cacophony of songbirds on the property. Less than a mile from the Hawthorne Gainesville Bike Trail. Less than a mile from Magnesia Springs, near Newnan's Lake, Payne's Prairie Preserve, Sweetwater Preserve, Boulware Springs Park, Devil's Millhopper State Park, LaChua Hiking Trail. And, much more. 12 miles to Gainesville, 9 miles to scenic old town Micanopy. A good jumping off point to various springs, and parks.

The Ocala North OHV Trail System offers 125 miles of trail which includes a 14-mile motorcycle-only trail; 35 miles of trail usable by motorcycles, all terrain vehicles (ATVs), and utility vehicles (UTVs) less than 50 inches wide; and 76 miles classified as "mixed use," which means OHVs share the trail with licensed vehicles. (Must purchase trail pass from https://www.recreation.gov/vehiclepermits/74048 ) The junior olympic size pool is open year round. Pool hours 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Pool is not heated. No lifeguard on duty. No Lake Swimming Advised. Small, shaded, & fenced dog walk area, sandy volleyball court and large activity lodge with pool table. Quiet hours 10pm-8am Monday- Thursday, 11pm-8am Friday & Saturday. No ATV or motorbike usage during these times. 5mph speed limit in resort. Both parental supervision and helmets are required for children under the age of 16 at all times while operating or as passenger’s of UTV. Operation of UTV after dusk strictly prohibited. Trash must not be left on your lot during or after check out. Trash attracts bears. We have a bathhouse located at the campsites with showers. The bathhouse at the Great Lodge will be ready by Fall 2022. There is an alligator farm and a dolphin aquarium on the island., as well as a historic continuous working light house. Our pad is just across the Bridge of Lions (2 miles) from the Oldest USA city, St. Augustine, Fl. The historic Fountain of Youth is there along with many other attractions. We have two level paver RV Pads. They both have electric, black and grey water cleanout, fast high speed internet (full hookup). They each have private patios for picnics, socializing, and relaxing. Pad 1 accommodates an RV up to up to 28' in length. Pad 2 accommodates an RV up to 34' in length. Both sites have full RV hookups. We accept Class B, Class C, Small 5th Wheel, Pop-up Campers, Vans and Travel Trailers. Sorry, we can't take Class A and no tent camping is allowed. There is also a large back deck with picnic area overlooking the small fishing lake in the back yard. We enjoy meeting fellow travelers and sharing our paradise island. We are LGBTQ friendly.
