A small but unique piece of land that was given to a family in the 1920s by the Florida Railroad Company. It stayed in the family until we purchased it. It is unique because the surrounding area does not have much tree coverage. This is due to the ground underneath, which is a vein of grey marl. This is why the area is called the Allapattah (an Indian word for Alligator) Flats. We are hoping that our county stays the way it is so people will know what Old Florida really looks like. Minutes from I-95, but surrounded by the Allapattah Flats Wildlife Management Preserve. Located on Martin Hwy, which was recently designated as a Florida Scenic Hwy. Fifteen minutes to Stuart and thirty minutes to West Palm Beach, a world away from the hustle and bustle. We realize that people also love Florida for Disney and tropical paradises but if that is what you want than this may not be your kind of place.

Each of the sites allows for watching the livestock, hanging out at the watering hole, and sitting around the communal campfire. Our favorite things about our property are privacy, amenities, and all of the roaming mini livestock throughout the property! Your hosts do not live onsite however, will be available to you during your visit. We are friendly and as non-invasive as we can be. We do love meeting our guests and are available for any questions that come up. Our primary purpose when developing this property was to create a safe space for children with special needs and their families. We are a no judgment zone and adhere to Hipcamp's inclusion policy. The land is close to 180 miles of local kayak trails (we rent kayaks!), a 10 minute drive from beautiful walking trails, and about an hour from the beach. We offer a rustic composting toilet, a heated outdoor shower, and a simple kitchen with a sink and stovetop. Note: Flitterbug Farm is in a rural, agricultural part of South Florida. The setting is peaceful, but it’s also alive with the sounds of farm life and wildlife. You may hear roosters, dogs, owls, frogs, and the usual country activity from nearby neighbors. We provide complimentary earplugs for light sleepers, and many guests find the natural soundscape part of the charm, but we want you to know what to expect.

Each of the sites allows for watching the livestock, hanging out at the watering hole, and sitting around the communal campfire. Our favorite things about our property are privacy, amenities, and all of the roaming mini livestock throughout the property! Your hosts do not live onsite however, will be available to you during your visit. We are friendly and as non-invasive as we can be. We do love meeting our guests and are available for any questions that come up. Our primary purpose when developing this property was to create a safe space for children with special needs and their families. We are a no judgment zone and adhere to Hipcamp's inclusion policy. A beautiful wide-open glade with a serene pond nearby made this spot absolutely perfect. We enjoyed a small fire right by our tent and camped beneath gorgeous trees that offered welcome shade as the day warmed up. The outdoor kitchen was great for cooking, and the firepit added to the classic camping experience. With virtually no light pollution, the night sky was incredible, stars everywhere. Trina, the host, couldn't have been kinder and even shared some fascinating history about the land. I really enjoyed Trina's place; I loved that she let my dog Bandit, play ball off leash. I think Bandit liked her too because he was right behind her "he normally doesn't leave my site" anyway you are provided with the necessities, a 2-burner propane stove, sink where you wash your dishes, she even filters the drinking water and puts it in a glass jug." how sweet is that" there is an out-house, oh and if you want to soak under the stars, there is an old cast-iron tub, you get to experience the way they did it back in the old days, by building a fire under the tub.! " hot tub "and a fire pit where you can hang out and meet new friends. let's not forget the shower also under the stars. " don't worry you have some privacy there" anyway it was my first hipcamp, Bandit and I had fun. stop by the Flitterbug Farm and tell Trina Norma says hi.

Super cute homestead with good vibes all around. A communal setting with a compost toilet, a shower, water, kitchen, etc. We camped with our 2 dogs and parked right by our site which was nice. Lots of roosters and dogs in the surrounding areas, but the site was pretty peaceful with a nice big tree to pitch our tent under!

We booked a 2nd night. The outdoor shower is amazing. We stayed on lots 2 & 4. Will rebook on 4 (just my preference). Its all about what you're looking for. I haven't stayed at a site that has recent pics on the hip camp site. Don't expect it and you wont be disappointed. I LOVED THIS PLACE. I dont know any tent campers that would not love this place ( I know 0 Glampers). There are hidden treasures all over this property. We had a ball. Enjoy and DONT SKIP THE HONEY! There is reportedly an alligator in the pond. I didn't see it and we all left better than we arrived

We loved tent camping here! I loved that the horses come up to say hello (although keep an eye on your stuff lol!), it was nice to be surrounded by farm animals. There was ample privacy, the bathroom/shower room was spotless and worked well. Stargazing at nighttime was excellent. Luiz was a gracious host and responded quickly to any questions we had. 10/10 recommend!

All reviews were in accordance with what we expected and experienced - we had one overnight stop going south and returned for another 3 nights going north. We were the only ones at the RV side of the pond so it gave us lots of privacy. Lovely people, nice outside shower and no other “noise” than the traffic on the road. But that is just the way it is. Having alligators in the pond made it also exotic for us. An easy spot to find and close to the main highway too.

We had a very nice view of the sun setting, and the wind flowing thru the trees at night was calming. Im definitely returning to experience the other sites in the near future. Martin's place was great, I really enjoyed the outdoor shower and the pool! The fire pit was perfect, Martin and I had some nice chats by the fire every night! The area was very quiet and peaceful, and Martin was a perfect host, very friendly and welcoming. Nice shady spot for my van. And, his dog, Lady, was very friendly, and she is very opinionated on the local squirrel population! Overall, I highly recommend Martin's place, it was a very pleasant and relaxing stay, and I will definitely stay here again!

In a word: outstanding. Christine and Cal are amazing hosts really going above and beyond and wanting you to feel safe and comfortable. The space is great with perfect amenities (water, hot outside shower, portable john, etc just like in the listing). They keep everything super clean and well-maintained. Others mentioned road noise--it's convenient because it's right off the road. My site was probably the closest one to it. During the day, you can hear cars of course, but at night there was no noise and I slept great! Book this place!
