Weekend Trip to Red Fox Meadow Campsite

This is my 4th time here. That should say it all. If I come back to a place more then twice it’s because it’s amazing and this time was no different. It was a wet weekend but still enjoyed a nice night camping on the property. Woke up to rain but was able to let things dry out and left a little later then check out but the host was super nice and understanding about it. If you need a spot to crash for the night and like to bike this spot is for you even if you don’t like to bike this is an amazing spot to pitch your tent for the night

We had such a pleasant experience staying the night at Ridgeview #2! Truly, the farm and orchard are so beautiful, even in the tail end of the winter season. This site felt private even for a working area, and we were only visited by deer in the evening and throughout the night. Because of the rolling hills and hard-packed soil, we never had to worry about our tent flooding despite it raining the entire night. We managed to stay completely dry and warm and were able to pack in and out in a cinch since we could drive our car right onto our site. We drove a 4x4 truck and there is one particularly steep part of the path that was dodgy with the rain, but I'm almost certain we could have taken our tiny sedan all the way through due to the well-maintained farm trails. Just be sure to read and adhere to their listed rules as this is a working farm and you shouldn't have issues! The farm stand nearby is perfect for any last minute amenities if you forgot / ran out of anything. There's apple wood for a campfire (great for long, hot fires) and we made sure to arrive as soon as they opened in the morning for warm apple-cider donuts — incredible! Lastly, their brewery was not only a pleasant surprise, but a wildly fun experience with a live band playing on a Sunday night. You could definitely tell everyone there was a local but we didn't feel excluded and the beer and cider were great. Will be recommending to friends in the city who are looking to get away, but not TOO far away.

This was my first Hip Camp stay. The land was as advertised (great open and private property, friendly cows, and a great view). The weather turn out for the worse on our weekend but as seasoned campers we made the best of it. My friend and I talked about coming back at some point with the family and make a bigger trip out of it.

Jonathan and Jennifer are very pleasant and easy to work with. The spot we had was spacious for our 18 ft travel trailer with slide out. They have a playground and plenty of acreage though we didn't walk through the woods. They had a fire ring for our spot as well as our neighbor's. The area is private, but you're only 2 miles from the town center of New Milton, which is cute.

Very nice property, each site is very private. Be ready to walk your things to the site. Dom has wheelbarrows to help move things which is great. Great experience, the firewood is a nice big bundle. We loved the animals on the farm too. No tables at the sites but there are some nice stumps you can easily use as a table. Thanks Dom

2 nights at Red Fox Meadow Campsite

Had such a great stay here! Super peaceful and tucked away in the woods, with tons of birds singing—it was exactly what I needed. Gwyneth was an awesome host, really friendly and accommodating. I got in late, but she still took the time to help me find the perfect spot to set up. Plus, I got to meet a newborn baby goat, which was such a cool surprise! Definitely recommend this place.

First time staying at red fox meadow. Text with Gwyneth prior to booking. Was a last minute trip to Gunks to XC ski. Another campground I stayed at prior was closed for winter. Was able to stay a few feet from wash closet. Which was heated! Nice flat spot to camp. Highly recommend. Will be back.

The area was beautiful and views were great. I can only imagine how gorgeous this site is in the spring and summer! Unfortunately there was a fire ban when we visited, but we still enjoyed time under the stars. There was a siren in the middle of the night that woke us up once but otherwise things were very peaceful. We loved shopping at the farm store and highly recommend checking it out even if you don’t stay here!!

Their place is so big,he made us choose were to camp since there were no other campers.Although we didn’t need the toilet its nice to know that its available when needed.Took a peek of the camp place on top of the mountain it looks so nice and private i just can imagine during spring to early fall how beautiful it would be,just came a little late of the season,but still were so thankful of our one little quiet friday getaway,our dogs love the place and its nice that they could be off leash.Lots of woods fr fallen trees to use for firewood.So far still the best hip camp i stayed this yr #1. Will definitely comeback someday and recommend it for hip campers. Thanks jon and jen for sharing your camp place.

It all started when grandfather Charles B Wright first establish this farm in 1904. He purchased it for its natural springs. In our barn (now home to Gardiner Brewing Company) he had gravity fed water troughs for his cattle. Since then we have slowly switched from animals to tree fruit. You will enjoy rolling hills of fruit trees and fruit gardens along with beautiful views of the Shawangunk Mountain Ridge. We have 450+ acres so it in very private. As we are a working farm, you can see us driving pass with our tractors or maintaining the orchard around your campsite on occasion. You are welcome to ride your bikes, hike or jog where you will pass ponds and a working farm landscape. Please don’t pick our fruit. If you would like to enjoy the fruits of our labor please visit our farm store open year round on the premises where we sell cheeses, our fresh picked fruit and veggies, local meats, and our famous cider donuts along with other farm products. We also have a farm brewery open 3-7 in our old dairy barn for you to enjoy. Live music Saturdays and Sundays. Minnewaska State Park and Mohonk Reserve are only 10 minutes away. The rail trail is three minutes away. This trail gives you walking and biking access into New Paltz, where there is tons of restaurants and lots of shopping. Please be aware that during the months of September and October there may be a Pick-Your-Own customer or two walking around picking apples around the campsite area between the hours of 10:00-6:00. You are also welcome to come down to the farm market and purchase bags to pick your own apples in season.

The 1772 Lefevre Homestead

Now our children has taking it over and are raising beef cattle on the property. Our campsite lies on the beautiful two and a half century old LeFevre family farmstead with rich history and stunning views of the Shawangunk Mountain ridge. The property is on a 40-acre old apple orchard that is super private and filled with dramatic views and spectacular sunsets. Wake up in your tent to the sounds of birds chirping, roasters crowing and cows just close enough but just far enough way. On occasion there may be a person driving by to tend to the cattle.

Moon In The Pond Farm

Well off the beaten track, it's scenic, private and peaceful. Camping at Moon In The Pond Farm is a little bit of heaven. There are six separate sites to choose from. All are in separate, different locations around the farm, so you have your own secluded spot to enjoy. (Though you may be sharing a field next to our Scottish Highland cattle!) Two are tent sites: the PondSide and the FieldEdge. There's one site for small/tiny RVs or Campervan. There's the BellTent--a bit of "glamping". And finally there's the HiddenCabin--a bed a roof and convenience. Each has a firepit with a small grill to cook over the fire. (all firewood provided) Our campsites are located in quieter areas of the farm. One overlooks the pond, three others are under the trees on the edges of different farm fields, one is a cabin nearer the farmstead. All require a beautiful, bucolic trek of 150-350 yards from the roadside parking--ensuring the quiet, natural experience. During the day times, you may see or hear farm work. At night it's lusciously dark and serenely quiet. You'll hear owls hoot, frogs croak, crickets chirp, foxes yowl and coyotes howl! In June and July the fields and trees light up like Christmas with fireflies, and you'll see the stars. During the week is the absolute best time--the local hot spots (or cooling down spots!) are much quieter, and all our campsites have reduced weekday rates. If you can, take advantage by adding a Thursday or Sunday night to a weekend stay. Wanna hike? We've got an awesome, easy hiking trail on adjacent Nature Conservancy preserved land. It meanders through woodlands, around rock ledges, through wetlands (on a 600' of boardwalk) and ends at a beautiful stream and pond with a gigantic beaver dam. Not far from here are numerous well-marked hiking trails (including the Appalachian Trail (with famous Bash Bish Falls) and several offshoots (Sage's Ravine, Race Brook Falls), Bartholomew's Cobble, Umpacheenee Falls, and others). Also in the neighborhood are opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, swimming, rock climbing, off-road, gavel-road and country-road biking, snowshoeing, cc skiing and pretty much any outdoor activity/adventure opportunity. Or... you can just chill and relax, sleep, or read the day away! Love food? This is Farm-to-Table for real! Never so close--the table's AT the farm!! Bring your cooking gear and get some of our wicked fresh organic food--veggies, chops, sausages, eggs, bacon, granola, yogurt, etc. Sear yourself up a real treat! Very nearby, as the Berkshires is an alternative cultural mecca, there are also numerous entertainment opportunities from many great restaurants to art, dance, music, spas, galleries, antique shops, museums, cafes and much more. It's still amazingly quiet at the farm where the Milky Way is clearly visible.

Triple Creek

A true wilderness experience. Base camp is an old Catskill farmhouse built late 19th century but first deeded 1820. Sits at the base of Evergreen Mountain bordered on three sides by tumbling water: West Kill Creek, Herdman Brook, and Haring Brook. Operated as a hunting and fishing lodge for decades - rainbow, brown, heron, kingfishers, eagles, larks , deer, bear, mink, beaver, bobcat - all there, right out the door, literally. You don't know what's going to come through your camp. The actual camp site itself is the ultimate in social distancing. As close to pure wilderness as it gets. No vehicles allowed at site. From an easily accessible parking space, it's a mildly uphill ten minute hike through magical meadows deep into a hidden mountain valley in the midst of 250,000 acres. Utter privacy. The only sounds being the wind, the birds, yourself, and Herdman Brook rushing along a few yards east of your site. Once again no vehicles are allowed at the campsite itself. At one time, yes, but we needed to disallow it because the property was being torn up, and the beauty of the site is that it's so pristine. This is not glamping. No cabin. No platform. Need tent, tarp, or hammock, and you will sleep under more stars than you can possibly imagine. Fire ring, cooking grate, water bucket This is true wilderness camping. You're off the grid at site - no cell service - but wifi available if necessary on front porch of main house aka base camp. 10 a.m. check in. 3 p.m. checkout. Please send ETA when possible. Campers ought to be aware that black bears live in these mountains., although you're not likely to see one unless it's running away from you. If you're really nervous bring bear spray, but you're not likely to need it. I literally chased one off our porch not a month ago. I would appreciate your purchasing human waste bags from me at base camp when you arrive. I'll have them here for $3.00/bag. Feel free to buy your own. You should also bring FIRE STARTER to make your life easier. We sell firewood as well - 7 logs/$10. As with the waste bags, we would appreciate buying the firewood directly from us. Wonderful hikes - one to a waterfall - trail head at end of Spruceton Rd. Hunter Brook, Devil's Notch, Fire Tower atop Hunter Mountain, Ridge of West Kill Mountain West Kill Brewery and Spruceton Inn Bed and Bar each half mile up the road. Civilized respites. 4 campers preferred. 6 possible. One more thing: DOGS. We have two: a 13 year old female whatever and a shepherd-husky mix, 4 years old, also female. They are quite friendly and docile, although the shepherd looks intimidating, and both roam the property at will 2-3 times/day. We would prefer you not bring your dog, however, if you must, please be certain it is well behaved 4.5 miles up County Rte 6 to 1833 Spruceton Rd., NY 12492 Old white farmhouse. On left. Coach lights. American flag. Welcome sign. Look for Baker Rd. Bridge directly opposite on right Stop at house for check in and guide to site. And Drive Carefully! PS: Pack it in. Pack it out. Osa Trail

Osa Trail site rests on a secluded hilltop bordering Sundown Wild Forest with SPECTACULAR VIEWS of hills and valleys. You can see all the way to The Berkshires on clear days. At night, it's the Milky Way, so bring your telescope. There is a beautiful "secret" mountain stream waterhole within a 7-minute walk from the tent. Bring your towels. Right along the driveway leading to the campsite there is a shale outcrop, full of fossils, mostly prehistoric leaves and branches, but also occasional Brachiopods - yours for the taking. Bring your cold chisel and a mallet. This campsite is equipped with one Queen-sized bed with a memory foam mattress! Good cell reception at the site. No poison ivy anywhere on the property. Bring extra warm blankets but wake up early to watch the sunrise. Enjoy the stone fire pit, but don't leave the fire unattended. Forage the forest, but don't leave food that may attract wildlife. Explore nearby mountain streams, waterfalls, hills and trails - don't get lost in the woods.

Joan runs two nonprofits related to psychological abuse and custodial interference as well as dabbles in the arts creating products from recycled and repurposed materials. Chris has been master carpenter and cabinet maker since the 1980’s. The two spend time keeping the grounds and gardens up and going out to dance. They love live music. The property is also the home to 3 cats. While physical check out of the tent is 10am, please ask if you would like to stay later. We can do a day rental of just the pool and gardens for an additional fee of $600 for parties of up to 20 people. For larger events, such as weddings, please contact us to discuss. Please ask if you would like to stay a little later than typical check out time. We often can accommodate. Please do NOT pick the fruits or veggies without asking as often things are not quite ripe yet. When things are ripe, we will try to put a bowl of fresh stuff out for you to choose from. Of course, it goes without saying, Please be considerate and clean up after yourselves. No smoking cigarettes or e-cigarette, vapes in the tent. If you need to bring a pet, they must be well-trained and not have an issue with cats or other dogs as we have 3 cats. Pets are NOT allowed to go to the bathroom on the lawn or in the gardens. They must either go in the woods or in the designated area for this. Please clean up after your pet if in the designated area. Ask us for how and where. We provide a wide range of amenities including first aid, bathroom and shower supplies. If you forget your tooth brush we usually have new extras around. Please bring bathing suits. We do have pool towels if you need them. If you need ice for our or your coolers, please purchase before hand. There are two supermarkets in town along with lots of other amenities in town. Please do not smoke in the tent as it sticks to the canvas. But you are welcome to smoke or vape outside of the tent. Parking on site off of the driveway across from the house. Please let us know if you need a later checkout time as checkout time can be altered to later in the day depending on new arrivals. The pool area is shared with the homeowners. If there is something you need, please do not hesitate to ask. We are pretty reasonable about requests. If you would like breakfast or a smoked meal, please let us know as there is an additional fee for this. We can do a day rental of just the pool and gardens for an additional fee of $600 for parties of up to 20 people. For larger events, such as weddings, please contact us to discuss.

We are just a couple minutes down the road from Lake Taghkanic State Park where there are over 1500 acres of trails, a 157 acre lake with a beach, boat launch and boat rentals as well as the famous West Taghkanic Diner. 12 minutes to the heart of Hudson, NY and the many incredible restaurants, artisans, antique warehouse and general beauty. 25 minutes to The Berkshires and Catamount Mountain for winter guests who enjoy skiing and snowboarding. 25 minutes to Woodstock. 4 minutes to a 24-7 high end convenience store with groceries, gas and diesel as well as large super market across the intersection. Host Camp

Learn more about this land: Secluded woods right next door to civilization, Host Camp is perfect for someone without their own camping gear or for someone who wants a quick getaway without having to pack and haul all of their gear. I’m going to describe what I consider drawbacks first so, if any of these are a deal breaker, you don’t need to read further. 1. I don’t call it a glamping spot. It’s not glamorous. No breathtaking views, It’s not on a vineyard, or fancy organic farm, there is no water feature. There isn’t even running water. There is a loveable loo toilet and I provide several gallons of water for drinking and washing. Also sanitizer and camp and dish soap. It’s just a well equipped camp in pretty woods and, at times, a beautiful sunset. 2. It is near a fairly busy road. When you park at the location, it can be loud. However, at the site location, it is usually pretty quiet, though you can still hear activity. 3. Parking for one car only. In the event that more than one car is coming to Rosendale, there is a municipal parking lot slightly over half a mile away in town. 4. It is a short but steep hike up. Host Camp provides one good 10 by 10 foot Eurika! (nylon, not canvas!) tent with lantern, two Coleman sleeping cots and two Coleman sleeping bags (good to 30 F) and sheets. A Titan Deep Freeze cooler (ice will be provided for arrival ), a one burner butane stove with coffee maker, mugs and utensils. are in storage under table with citronella candles. I also provide large dog bed if requested. There is a loveable loo lavatory situated in a small 19 th century brick mining storage building, the Dynamite Shack. Add more sawdust (next to it after use). Close to Widow Jane Mine, the area is known for its mining history and the cement here was used in the construction of many of the United States' most important landmarks, including the Brooklyn Bridge, the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty, Federal Hall National Memorial, and the west wing of the United States Capitol building. Host Camp is situated on a five acre property 8 floors above and behind three cottages on rt 213. It is a .3 kilometer walk partially up hill. The cottages and road are out of sight from the camping area. The property surrounding ours is also woods so there is little chance of seeing another person in the camp. I provide a metal dog tether. Dogs must be leashed at all times when not on tether and I ask that small dogs are never out of sight as this is wilderness. I prefer that dogs sleep in tent and I even provide a dog bed and bowls. I also provide two chairs. Solar light string are set strategically to facilitate finding your way in the dark but I do recommend bringing a flashlight or head light. While I do not provide WiFi, I do have reception and am able to use internet with my phone when I am up there. I provide for 2 but am not opposed to as many as 4 people staying. They would just need to provide there own sleeping gear and tent. The town is just a half mile away and there are several restaurants, a bakery, a movie theater, grocery and my favorite store, Soiled Doves for cool vintage stuff. We are also close the the trestle and Walkill Valley Rail Trail. Please feel free to ask any questions

Nature is calling! **History of The Awosting Club** In the mid 1950's John Atwater Bradley, then a graduate student, attended a conference in Cragsmoor, the site of a celebrated art colony not far from what is now the Awosting Reserve and The Awosting Club. The next morning at dawn, he went out for an exploratory hike and did not return until long after dark. Bradley hiked through evergreen and hardwood forests, along bubbling streams, roaring waterfalls and shimmering mountain lakes. He discovered an incredible wilderness like none he'd ever seen, populated by whitetail deer, black bear, fox, racoons, bobcat and coyote as well as a natural aviary of hawks, peregrine falcons, owls, eagles and pileated woodpeckers. That day he fell in love with the Shawangunk Ridge. The Bradley family still maintain the property, and after 50 years of sharing the property with educational organizations, schools, artists, writers, explorers, camps, family and friends, are excited to invite others to fall in love with the Shawangunk Ridge as John Bradley had over 70 years ago. Bradley's daughter, Camilla, and her family are keeping the Awosting traditions alive by sprucing up the camp buildings and platforms while maintaining the trails that have been used for decades for outdoor adventures: from sleeping to eating to playing to communing with nature in all her glory.
