The Ute Lodge was homesteaded in the 1930’s by Joe Fox who after leaving the military came west to settle in the White River valley.
Joe was known for his friendliness, hospitality and wild stories.
Today you might find much of the same. From Joe’s day to today it is a place where families come together to get away.
The Ute Lodge is now owned by Karl and Mona Maser who celebrated 20 years of ownership summer of 2019!
All summer our cabins are filled with guests from all over the US as well as international travelers. One of our favorite things about the summer is our weekly potlucks where we all share an outdoor meal. All of our visitors have a standing invitation to join us around the community campfire at night.
From our beautiful private lake (where you can paddle-board, kayak and fish), to immediate access to the Papoose and Crooks Park Trails on National Forest land, as well as the vast variety of wildlife that roams around, you can find what you need here to unplug and get away from it all.

This is a small, no-frills family operation. Power at each site with a water spigot available near the main fire pit. No rigs over 30' due to a sharp bend in the driveway. Beautiful, quiet, and convenient to all the best that the White River National Forest has to offer. We'll be back!

If you are looking for something very remote with full hook ups this is a great place to stay. This is a farm on private property. We were left alone the 3 nights we stayed. If you have scrapes left from a meal, you can feed them to the pigs. We would come back.

So peaceful and beautiful. Great trails for some hiking and the pond was a great place to spend some time. Loved sitting outside with morning coffee and listening to the creek and animals. Loved hearing the horses, ducks, chickens and pigs. She was nice and a pleasure to talk too and her 2 dogs are so friendly and sweet. Was very helpful and helped accommodate us with our 45’ foot rig. Had a nice area with a sand box, swings, basketball and games and an area for bonfire. Well worth the visit!

Good place to overnight. I was confused a little when driving in but everything worked out. Road is nearby but not to noisy especially after 9 pm. We didn’t use the fire pit due to a fire ban but the pit looks good.

Home on Wheels is a truly sweet and special place. Hosts Mona, Carl and Martina could not be nicer. It was so fun to enjoy the farm life, pet the horses, feed the pigs our scraps, listen to the chickens, play the games and sit by the community fire. We mainly hiked and fished all over the gorgeous area. We will be back!

Nancy and Jerry were wonderful. We really enjoyed our two nights stay by the Colorado River. It was cozy and quiet. It’s a beautiful ride in and we also took another beautiful ride to the town of Yampa. Highly recommend.

The river front campsite offered a peaceful and beautiful spot to spend a quiet and relaxing couple of days. The golden eagle pair soaring over the Colorado River was an unexpected bonus that added to the experience. I managed to hook a nice rainbow wading in a very chalky river as the spring runoff (early June) made wading difficult. I would imagine better conditions in the next week or two as the flows drop and the water clears. Wonderful host and happy dogs made the stay exceptional.

I had an awesome time tent camping here. Plenty of space, friendly dogs, great view, and the cattle were beautiful. The owner had knowledge on the trail systems by their place which is right by the white river national forest. I had a tree that was great for my hammock and it was fun watching the ground squirrels run around.

What a scenic and peaceful stay we had at Nancy and Jerry's property. We loved meeting them both as well as their neighbor Judy, who gave us some of her beautiful chicken eggs on our way out! Oh and we can't forget their sweet dogs, Sage and Elan as well as the stunning cows, we truly enjoyed just watching them and the playful ground squirrels. Thank you for sharing your home!
