You may have a campfire and we have free wood! We also have delicious duck eggs! A beautiful 40 acre ranch on Hastings Mesa with views of Alder Canyon and Hayden’s Peak. You can hear Alder Creek flowing through the canyon from the comfort of your campsite. Many nearby options for bicycling, hiking, kayaking and skiing in the area. Once you pull out the driveway you are a few minutes from Last Dollar Ranch Road (hike, bike, or 4x4) and about a 25 minute drive to Telluride, 30 minutes to Ridgway, and 30 minutes to Norwood. Just outside of Ridgway is Orvis Hot Springs, and more hot springs can be found in Ouray. The property offers access to Alder Creek and our beaver ponds down in the canyon. The fields are blanketed with Iris and clematis flowers in May and June and other wild flowers throughout the summer including pentstemon, larkspur, and wild roses. There are patches of scrub oak and fields with cinquefoil bushes in the camping areas, and as you go down in the canyon there’s aspen groves, blue spruce, and ponderosa pines. As mentioned before, we have delicious farm fresh duck eggs from our happy free-ranging ducks!

You will also see the wild critters that inhabit our corner of La Plata County. You are welcome to wander our property beyond the Big Stick Ditch but do not go into the pasture with our burro or enter any of the out buildings. Park within steps of the Art Shack, cross the foot bridge over the bubbling irrigation ditch, and you have arrived! Please remove your shoes before entering! There is electricity, a queen bed, rustic chairs inside, an outdoor table and chairs, a composting toilet, a coffee machine, and purified drinking water for your use. An electric heater is supplied during winter months. There is no air conditioning. This is my second stay here and loved it just as much the second time around. I’m in a 20foot travel trailer and it fit great. All amenities worked perfectly and the site is just so clean and private. There is nothing like stepping out the door right into a grove of aspens. So peaceful!

Pictures do not do this place justice! The river is directly behind the tent, so it was perfect to fall asleep to the sound of the water! Community kitchen area has everything you need from seasonings, a grill, even a super neat pizza oven! 100000% recommend this gem of a place. There’s even a trail to walk to downtown if you’re feeling up to it!

The scenery was beautiful and the host was very communicative. But, these sites are not meant for 20' campers. Very tight lots of half buried pointy rocks and if the weather isn't perfect the road in and out is sketchy at best. It would be fine for tear drop, pop up or even tent camping however.

I loved my night at Gretchen's property. I was only there for a short time but Gretchen and her pups were very welcoming and the shack was the perfect place to rest for a night before a long drive. Had everything needed for a short stay :)

We had a great quick night at Joe’s place. There were so many amenities like a fully stocked camp kitchen, outhouse, shower set up, and plenty of chairs and tables. We didn’t have to unload much of our own stuff and could just use what was provided. We slept peacefully with the sound of the creek. We wish we could have stayed longer to explore more of the property and creek! Our dog was a bit anxious at first but Joe came by with a treat to say hello and she immediately was happy and relaxed. She loved playing in the creek.

We had such a great stay at HRT Durango! The amenities were perfect for our family — the kids loved the playground, and the pool was a great way to cool off and relax after a day of exploring. Having a dog park on site was a huge bonus too, making it easy for our pup to get some exercise and enjoy the trip with us. The campground was well-kept, with clean facilities and plenty of space at the sites to set up comfortably. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, always checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. Overall, it was the perfect family-friendly stop, and we’d definitely recommend it to anyone traveling through Durango.

Our 32 ft Class C fit perfectly within the mature pines at Paula's land. The river and views were top notch. You really dont find places like this with full hook ups. Will definitely be back. Thanks for putting your land up on hipcamp Paula. Beautiful!
