Our campground is nestled between the granite walls of Taylor Canyon alongside the Taylor River in central Colorado, halfway between Gunnison and Crested Butte, CO. If you've never been to the area, get ready to be amazed, with over 2,500 square miles of public land, 700+ miles of singletrack trail and countless rivers, creeks and lakes to explore. Please contact us before booking if you are seeking a family focused experience - we do not have a kids area or playground and require that children under the age of 16 be in the company of an adult at all times due to our proximity to Co Rd 742 and the Taylor River. No multi-room tents are allowed at camp, we simply don't have the room, the largest tent size we can accommodate is 12'x12' - please inquire if you have specific tent questions.
You can check-in with us anytime after 3pm the day of your reservation, please message us if you need to check-in after 8pm. All campers will be required to sign our release of liability waiver before camping (parents/guardians will have to sign for minors in your group)

Relax on the property or use it as your adventure base camp. Less than a mile from Gunnison river access, National Forest access in hunting units 54 and 55. Not far from units 66 and 67. Almont is a 2 minute drive, Gunnison is about 10 minutes away and Crested Butte is about 20 minutes from the property.
The queen size bed will be made (additional cots can be added with advance notice) and the kitchen has a two burner propane camp stove, tea pot, pots, pans, plates, bowls, cups, mugs, and utensils. It is stocked with drinking water, oil, S&P, coffee, tea, marshmallows and fresh eggs from our chickens will be provided daily.
The tent is equipped with a wood burning stove and stocked with firewood. Additional firewood can be purchased. Kindling and fire starters are also available at no charge- let us do the hard work - you RELAX! Electricity is provided, so you can charge your phone or whatever else you need.
Enjoy your private fire pit, chill in the rocking camping chairs, or walk across the field to the main house and enjoy the hot tub on the deck. You may spot our horse "Sassy" or some of our chickens roaming around.
A porta potty is situated near (but not too near) the tent for your convenience. Towels and wash cloths are also provided.

After traveling the US in our motorhome for almost 5 years my husband Scott and I know the value of a smiling face and a helping hand after a day (or week) of travel. Exploring and experiencing this amazing country, its diversity and incredible people enhanced our lives in so many ways.
In mid 2017 we found out our first grandchild was on the way. Long story short we parked the RV and parked ourselves here in Paonia, CO. In December of that year, we moved onto this amazing property full time and started the long list of fix ups (the list is still long). lol

The House where we live is the corner stone of the Bruce Property and is on the Colorado Register of Historic Houses.The residence was constructed between 1905 and 1912, using red bricks made on the site. John and Sophia Bruce, early pioneers in the North Fork Valley, were first involved in cattle raising. The family later became successful fruit growers. Tennessee Creek Road typically becomes impassable to wheeled vehicles between Halloween and Thanksgiving and generally remains closed until Memorial Day. Depending on snowfall, this may occur earlier or later in the season.
During times when the road is snow-covered and impassable, guests may access the cabin only by snowshoe, backcountry skis, or snowmobile. A public parking lot, which is plowed and maintained throughout the winter, is available for guest parking before using these alternative methods of access.
🛷 Trail Conditions: About a 2-mile stretch of Tennessee Creek Road is groomed during winter for skiing and snowmobiling up to Forest Road 103. Beyond that point, the road is ungroomed and may have deep powder or snow drifts, making travel more challenging.
🚰 Water: Running water is not available during the winter months, as water storage is winterized. Guests must either bring their own water or melt snow.

❄ Winter Vehicle Access Disclaimer
Tennessee Creek Road typically becomes impassable to wheeled vehicles between Halloween and Thanksgiving and generally remains closed until Memorial Day. Depending on snowfall, this may occur earlier or later in the season.
During times when the road is snow-covered and impassable, guests may access the cabin only by snowshoe, backcountry skis, or snowmobile. A public parking lot, which is plowed and maintained throughout the winter, is available for guest parking before using these alternative methods of access.
🛷 Trail Conditions: About a 2-mile stretch of Tennessee Creek Road is groomed during winter for skiing and snowmobiling up to Forest Road 103. Beyond that point, the road is ungroomed and may have deep powder or snow drifts, making travel more challenging.
🚰 Water: Running water is not available during the winter months, as water storage is winterized. Guests must either bring their own water or melt snow.

The host met us when we arrived (even though it was late) and was very helpful. The spot was as described, power hookup and nice camp bathroom very close and private. The area is beautiful. We would stay again if we were in the area.

I’m so glad I read these reviews and booked my stay. I stayed in Laura with my fiancé and dog. We had everything we needed for our stay, especially our pupper. She had food bowls, a bed, and they even covered the couch which she enjoyed. Before booking I read reviews of people extending their stay and I can see why now. Such an awesome little cabin. Had the BEST time tent camping here over the weekend! The staff onsite was friendly and helpful. The sites and bathrooms were clean and well managed. I was shocked to see there was laundry on site as well which was so nice to have after coming back from the hot springs. Definitely recommend 10/10 will stay again.

This was a great site! I was worried about being on the north rim of Black Canyon because the “main” stuff is on the south rim but IT WAS SO GREAT! We did the south rim the day before and hit the North Rim morning after (views are 10x better!!) Definitely recommend Tater’s campground, so clean, so comfortable, so serene. Star gazing, stunning views, seclusion, and sweet pets 🩵 Traci + Chris have done a wonderful job.

Kent is a fabulous host! His property is ideal for a peaceful, Paonia location. Plenty of room to spread out with a privacy fence between the main residence, and neighbors. Also an easy half block walk to Paonia Park, and six blocks to Paonia's central location. Walk to the grocery store, cocktail lounges and restaurants. I'm looking forward to staying here again.

We enjoyed our 2 night stay at Tater’s. Chris is a helpful and friendly host and we enjoyed chatting with him and meeting Tater, Sugi and Otis. The view of the nearby mountains was amazing, especially at sunset and the dark sky allowed for wonderful stargazing. The bathhouse with showers was a short walk from the campsite and it is kept clean. We had everything we needed for a relaxing visit while exploring the north rim of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.
