The desert is really lovely right now, and so are the mineral baths.
We have no lodging here, so park your RV or car or set your tent up right next to outdoor hot mineral baths where pure water flows from under the desert at 124 degrees then we let it cool down to whatever temperature feels right. Only 1 group (max 6) at a time so it will always be private, and we are very conscientious of our guest's privacy, but are always available for questions via text or phone.

Located in a rural desert setting 1 hour south of Indio, in the morning shadow of the Chocolate Mountains, this is a working farm growing 7 varieties of organic dates: medjool, barhi, khadrawi, halawi, khalas, dayri and zahidi.
Ideal bath times are nighttime and early morning, and day soaks are an option too if you live locally and just want to spend a few hours soaking.
We have a private driveway and fenced property and there are no nearby homes. It is an extremely safe neighborhood here...never having a single incident of theft, vandalism or intrusion in the 19 years of residence. This is where the beautiful natural hot healing waters flow out of the earth as described in the famed "Desert Magazine" article of November 1956 "Little Yellowstone on the Salton Shores". A very remarkable but little-known secret in the California desert.
18 years of date harvests have made life and residence purposeful here on this 7-acre flank of the Chocolate Mountains. Desert Magazine (1956) describes the hot water here to be "richer in mineral content than any spa water in the United States excepting those in the Yellowstone Park area. Here then was mineral water rivaling that of Spa Royat in France; Bad-Nauheim in Germany; and Marianbad in Czechoslovakia. Here was water superior to that which the royal heads of Europe had paid princely sums to use."
2-wheel drive vehicles, including cars are all one needs to reach the farm.
Some wild deer in the neighborhood, but also bighorn sheep, fox, coyote, bobcat, hawks, owls, lizards, geckos and rabbits. Native artifacts have been discovered on the property and our desert nights are free of light pollution.
Private hot springs on small farms are extremely rare anywhere in America, but especially within 2 and 1/2 hours of greater Los Angeles. This is a really great place to empty your head out and enjoy the lovely weather and an even better place to get and stay healthy in these unpredictable times. This place is ideally suited for health-oriented folks. No tobacco, alcohol, vaping, cannabis or drugs allowed. And in the pools no lotions, perfume, hair care products, makeup, or sunscreen. No food or glass near the pools, and we are not set up for small kids or pets. Cookstoves are okay here, just no campfires due to an excess of brush in the region.
Verizon and AT&T and T Mobile phone service all work well here. We are 4 miles from Bombay Beach, 35 minutes from Mecca, 1 hour and 20 minutes from Palm Springs, 1 hour from the Coachella Music Festival location, in the direction with light traffic. 1 hour and 30 minutes from Joshua Tree south entrance, 1 hour and 10 minutes from La Quinta and 2 hours and 30 minutes from Los Angeles area and 2 hours 30 minutes from San Diego area. We are 30 minutes to Salvation Mountain/The Slabs and 1 hour 10 minutes to Painted Canyon (The Slot Canyons in the Mecca Hills). The last half mile before our gate is a dirt road that can have seasonal ruts and washboard surface from off-roaders, so passenger cars will need to take it slow but can still make it.
We are not a posh resort, and because it's a farm there are a few odd structures and tools on the property, but that's just part of the art. The rock pools and hot water baths are lovely at night under the stars near the palms, and that's what this place is all about.
This farm is in the low (elevation) desert, where the winter days are warm with springtime-like weather from November - March.
The colder high desert areas in the Morongo Basin (Joshua Tree, 29 Palms etc.) are more popular tourist destinations, but sometimes they are so popular that the traffic can be as bad as any city, with no flowing water and the Bighorn Sheep are hiding away deep in the boulders. The low desert has nicer winter days, hot springs, flowing water, far less traffic and more places to observe wildlife.

More than 85,000 acres of magnificent desert are open for off-highway exploration and recreation within the boundaries portrayed on the park map are operated by California State Parks, OHMVR Division. Outside the boundaries, to the south and east, large tracts of BLM land (U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management) are also open to off-highway vehicles. The western boundary and part of the northern boundary connect with the 600,000-acre Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, which is closed to off-highway recreation, but open to exploration by highway-legal vehicles along established primitive roads.
The rangers and staff of Ocotillo Wells are dedicated to providing a safe and enjoyable desert riding environment, and to ensuring that a quality experience remains available for future generations.
No fees are collected for camping or day use. Open camping is permitted throughout the unit for up to 30 days per calendar year. Vault toilets, shade ramadas, picnic tables, and fire rings are located in the Quarry, Main Street, and Holmes Camp areas. Water is not available. Vehicle repair shops, telephones, groceries, hotels, motels, RV parks, and restaurants are available in the surrounding communities of Borrego Springs, Ocotillo Wells, and Salton City.

Sagewinds Farm is the first certified organic white sage farm in the world. This is a great RV spot to explore the Salton Sea, stargaze, or crash for a night during your road trip. You can also ATV the heck out of the place (you'll see the path directly at the back of the property).
You may tent camp, but there are days/nights where it can get very windy. Check the forecast.
UPDATE: There is a recently installed fire pit to help you stay warm or cook up a feed. Be safe and have at it.
PLEASE NOTE: Ground is very soft. I did have a friend drive an RV on it without issue, but just be aware.
While this is currently a vacant lot, it is in short driving distance of gas stations, convenience stores, and a few restaurants.

What an incredible hidden oasis. It is completely unexpected based on the surrounding area. Once you drive up, the setting feels calm, secluded, and vibrant.
The wind was no joke during our stay. It was strong and consistent, especially at night. We came prepared with extra tent anchors, and that made a significant difference.
The water was clean and refreshing. The kids floated around the lake during the breaks in the wind, and no question, the pond added a unique element to the experience. There was also an impressive amount of wildlife, including turtles, fish, and a wide variety of birds. Watching them throughout the day made the campsite feel alive and peaceful at the same time.
Overall, this is a place that feels more like a discovery than a typical destination. It offers a mix of quiet, nature, and a bit of adventure. We had a great time and would absolutely come back.

I arrived exhausted, and Gordon had the hot spring waiting. Warm. Ready. That’s when I knew this was different. I parked steps away from everything I needed. That night, under stars so clear I could name them, I soaked and just… breathed. The next morning at seven, the spring was hot again. Gordon was thinking ahead. The trees whispered around me. The privacy wasn’t just about location, it was permission to be fully myself. That’s what Gordon created. A place where you can finally let go.

I had an incredible time camping at Coyote Moon this past weekend. If you are looking for a spot to truly disconnect and take in the natural beauty of the area, this is it.
The highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the beautiful night skies. Being away from the heavy city lights provided some of the clearest stargazing I’ve experienced in a long time—perfect for anyone who loves sitting by the fire and looking up at the Milky Way.
A huge thank you to our host, Adil. He was exceptionally friendly and accommodating from the moment we arrived. He went out of his way to ensure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and made us feel right at home on the property.
I highly recommend this spot for anyone wanting a peaceful getaway with great hospitality.

We tent camped for 3 nights with kids 7/9. They loved the mountain on the property, which was a short, easy, and super fun hike with caves and ropes and incredible views. The property was magical and the stars were incredible. We loved the dogs and it was really nice to have a decent toilet and water. Highly recommend!

Went with my 13 year old son and dad. Super easy to find, Julian will send the GPS coordinates before your trip; if you enter those into google maps you won't have any problems, it takes you right there (it would be challenging otherwise, I think). Beautiful location on a farm pond, just a few minutes of the main highway coming west out of Westmoreland. One of the ranch hands (Andrew?) came by a couple times to ask if we needed anything, offered ice, potatoes, even offered to move the portapotty so it was more convenient (we did not take him up on that, but it was super nice to offer) etc; super friendly guy. Kid had an amazing time exploring the pond, fishing and swimming. I've heard that it can get windy, but we did not experience that. I think it's definitely worth checking the forecast specifically for wind before you go, I can see that it could go from pleasant to miserable pretty quickly if the wind kicked up. Kid is already bugging me to go back, so.....

We stayed at Pondside on Julian’s land. Very basic but worked well for us. Would come back. A small complaint: Tables were are bit hard to sit at because the stools are uneven. Loud croaking frogs all night, so if you are a light sleeper, you might want to consider elsewhere, but we slept great. Nice views of the sunset over the mountains

Gordon’s place was so fun and convenient especially if you’re starting to get into camping. I think it’s almost a glamping campsite!! Definitely considering coming back. This site has a shed to use if you want to pitch a tent over there. There’s a private bathroom with a working sink and toilet. And the pool and hot mineral bath was sooo relaxing to use. He also has one outlet that you can use to charge your phone if needed. Already planning when to come back and bring a couple friends to enjoy with.

The scenery was beautiful with great views of sunrise and sunsets. Stargazing was also incredible here, the sky was super clear. Check in was also super easy.

Staying at Ellen’s was magical! Her land was so beautiful, she showed us around herself. There were multiple hikes to go on and areas to explore. Stargazing was amazing at night! The mini horses and her friendly dogs were adorable! Overall wonderful experience! Stay at Ellen’s!

Stayed here for one night, super hot and really windy, but still a great experience. The views were beautiful, especially at sunset, and the stars at night made it worth it. The site felt peaceful and private overall.
Just come prepared for the elements and you’ll have a good time. Would come back!

We slept SO WELL at Coyote Moon. It’s so peaceful, dark and quiet - exactly what we needed after a beautiful but disruptive night of sleep in Joshua Tree. Adil is a great Host, creating a strong sense of welcome and safety while supporting your privacy and seclusion. The view from the site is really beautiful and there were great flowers while we there!! As a heads up you will be camping fairly close to the house but the site is lovely, private and peaceful. My family of 4 had a great time enjoying Ellen's property. She told us all about the land and how she's cultivated it. She showed us around including the boundary and introduced us to her horses. We hiked/scrambled up the mountain and we're accompanied by one of her sweet dogs who impressed us the whole way up and down and hung around us most of the day. The freeway noise others have commented on was really minimal white noise occasionally, but we heard a pack of coyotes and a mountain lion/bobcat in the evening. The stargazing was great, and we couldn't get enough of the rock scrambling there was to do. There's a marked trail up the mountain that helped us find our way down. We would love to come back and visit again.
