Definitely recommend a 4x4 vehicle to get to the property. Have your directions downloaded before you pass the high school. Our Subaru was up for the task!
The property is gorgeous and very secluded. We brought our 8 year old boy and dog. We were super lucky to have the entire camp site to ourselves the entire weekend. The temperature at night was almost freezing, so the sauna and shower made it much more tolerable. The sauna was by far the highlight of the trip for me besides being with my family unplugged!
Epic stargazing at the point camp site.
Having a kitchen to make a full meal for each meal was a luxury. The kitchen has everything you need to cook minus ingredients. Bring your own oil/spices etc.
Also, pack out what you pack in. Meaning, there isn’t a garbage facility/ site dumpster.
Also, there is really only 1 running toilet that we could find by the kitchen. I could see this being annoying in a large group setting, although having a toilet at all is a luxury when camping.
If you’re a BBQ enthusiast, bring your own grill, there isn’t one to use on the property.
Make sure to bring tick repellant/ check yourselves (especially dogs) regularly. We pulled a dozen off our dog and bodies.
Highly recommend this spot for a weekend getaway! We loved it and will certainly be back, as a couple, as a family and with friends for sure!!

A beautiful place to come in the fall. Weather was warm during the day the forest hikes and waterfall were beautiful. Having a bath house with a sauna was a real treat. Be prepared for the long dirt road up to the property. Lots of potholes, steep hills, and turns, you need daylight and patience.

Weekend Trip to spirit chicken ranch
This is an incredibly special place. The land itself is spectacular, with some of the most stunning views I’ve seen. Campsites are spread out and each very sweet. We bought out the whole place for a big group of families. Kids ranging from 2-10, and they couldn’t have been happier. And the amenities are the best! Chris has done such a nice job with the sauna house and outdoor shower and kitchen. Perfect gathering places. The coyotes, birds, and wild horses were wildlife highlights for us all. Stargazing is awesome as it’s far from most light pollution.
Note that the road is rough and took us 35 mins in a truck, but our two kids who get carsick a lot were fine with a little Dramamine.

Absolutely had a blast, Lars is a great host and so accommodating. The campsite was clean and well put together. He made sure we had fresh clean warm water for our shower and let us borrow anything we needed! We’ll be back!

What a magical spot! We loved exploring the property, spending time in the sauna/bathhouse, and sitting around the fireplace at night. The kitchen was fully stocked for a group of 16 to cook all of our weekend meals, and we loved sharing meals together. The hosts were very responsive and the property was easy enough to find (in the daytime at least!) We will need to return when the river is running!

This was our second time here and honestly it was even better than the last. Heidi and Matt are so responsive and sweet and make the experience so wonderful and seamless every time. We had some first time campers with us and even they loved it. This property is just so amazing and perfect for having a beautiful weekend to share with friends in raw nature. I can’t recommend this stay enough! The site and spending time in the river is the absolute best although I HIGHLY recommend checking your tires before summitting the rough terrain and steep hills of the property. We got a little stuck but were able to maneuver our way out from the river. Despite that I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend in such a beautiful and serene location. We’ll definitely be back next year too!

Great place. The owner was sweet. They have a sweet tire swing. A place to cook. A sink and well water. Portable potties. There are off leash dogs but theyre super cute and sweet a little shy. I brought my dogs with no issues. The rock and river is walking distance and easy to get to. We were very happy. The camping spots are all very close together but we went and no one else was there.
When you get there and cross the bridge go straight and to the left. #6 is the nicest spot. With a already nice tent available. And a deck. We had the whole thing to ourselves and it was lovely.
Right on the north side of the highway. A big space to pull off and right down there.
I really enjoyed my time there.

Beautiful piece of land in a remote part of Mendocino County. The sauna and showers are gorgeously constructed. Although the creek was dry when we were there in September, the hike was gorgeous. A perk of September visit there is the fig tree that was big enough to feed all the visiting campers.
There was a large group of friendly campers there during our stay. So while the camping stay didn’t feel private it is a beautiful spot.

Such a nice spot. We really enjoyed the drive out there, and having the place to ourselves on Friday night. A larger group arrived on Saturday, but the distance between the kitchen area and the camp sites means everyone has their space and the camp is peaceful. Beautiful night sky and morning sun.

We loved tent camping at the Hillside site! It was extremely quiet and private and the views were incredible. The last 20ish minutes of the drive up to the property were on a dirt/gravel road and the Hillside site was doable in a large 4WD but felt like off-roading. The pond wasn’t swimmable but fishing from the canoe they have was so fun. There is no shade at the Hillside site past mid-morning so we’d highly suggest a shade tent or umbrella of some kind. I believe they had a couple umbrellas but there wasn’t a base for one at the Hillside site. Wasps were also an issue when cooking, but that wasn’t surprising this time of year. The hosts were incredibly kind and generous. We learned so much from them and even received recommendations for local spots to visit, eat and swim. There is no spigot or hose for water, just a couple jugs available which ran out when the other family camping finished them off. They weren’t replaced for our second night there and the sink with running water didn’t work the few times we tried to do dishes, but luckily we brought our own water and had enough for the rest of the weekend. Overall, we would definitely recommend for a peaceful weekend and great place to call home for the night after exploring the surrounding towns and nature. It’s clear they put a lot of love and effort into their property and educating the community and are ironing out kinks as they continue to grow the space!

My friends and I had a blast here! While we never met Thomas during our stay, Lars and Wild Man took great care of us and made sure we were situated and had what we needed. Lars walked us all the way to the Hole in the Wall, which was really kind and he’s a great tour guide. Garden Side is a great spot for a group. It does get a lot of sun and gets toasty so bring some sun protection! This camp spot was queer and tripping friendly. We felt really welcome and the vibes were so relaxed. Just make sure if you’re coming in an RV or sprinter that you confirm the width of your vehicle. The bridge is tight, I barely cleared it in my sprinter van. This spot represents what hip camp is all about & I will absolutely come back!

This is a great campground. If you are potentially last-minute camping or camping solo it is a small campground with the owner on site super friendly. The access to bathrooms. Freshwater and showers was great if you were looking for something a little more secluded, it might not be so great because even though there is privacy, you do hear the highway, but great location and access to amazing private Creek and beach with a short walk Looking forward to coming back soon!! I’ve booked Spirit Chicken twice, for a 7-person birthday and a 20-person going away party. It never disappoints. We love the land there, vistas looking out on other Mendocino peaks and the fog rolling in drop down into steep oak-studded canyons with swimmable creeks at the bottom. Chris has done an amazing job building out a common kitchen and gathering area, sauna and bathhouse, outhouse, and more. There are enough amenities to support a large
group (even those who don’t like rustic camping). My favorite magic element of this land is the horses that drink from the pond further down on the property.
Two heads up - The country road to get her is totally passable by any type of car but not for the faint of heart (my friend did it in their beetle, but it took an hour). The waterfall is seasonal and doesn’t flow during dry season.
Thank you Chris! It’s worth the trek and I want to come back every year!

This camping spot was perfect for a 3 day weekend getaway! I loved how fresh the air is out there, and how peaceful it is at night. It had an amazing spring water shower, which was perfect for me since I like to be fresh for each day. The famous Hole in the Wall was just steps away, and offered a quiet sanctuary for meditation and cold plunge swimming! The water was clear and clean. The people running the camp were very helpful and super kind. I would definitely recommend this place for its location, atmosphere, and serenity.

Great environment !!! Very welcoming and friendly, beautiful scenery, peaceful aura 🙌🏾 I would definitely recommend this to a friend. All the amenities were clean and worked like a charm, i made myself right at home lolz :)))) just make sure you pay extra attention when finding it cuz you may drive right past it !
