It was a last minute book that morning, if I remember right - my campsite had fallen through. His directions were spot on, and very kindly he stayed up to take me to my site and help me get set up, even going so far as to light me a fire. His property was easily navigable in the dark, and my two wheel drive made it fine. We talked for a while - what a cool guy. He was able to give me recommendations from a friend of what to do during the next legs of my trip, which was great and really did make a difference for the rest of my week. I cooked my dinner and sat stunned looking at some of the best stargazing I’ve had in a long time.When I woke up I realized that I had been sleeping next to a mountainside view - this was site 3. Talk about the best surprise I’ve gotten in a while unzipping a tent. The clouds were gathered in the valley and as I ate breakfast I got to watch the sun slowly clear then out. It was unbelievable.Before I left, Cosmo let me use his indoor solar-heated shower and told me all about his projects to build his own home and roads and move towards a more sustainable future. Overall this is really the best of what I imagine hipcamp has to offer - kind property owners & unique individuals who care about their guests while also allowing them to have their own experience. If I’m ever near Mendocino I will gladly make the trip inland to stay at his property again."

Meadow Farm is a nonprofit 501c3 with goals of coastal food security, disaster preparation and sheltering, carbon sequestering and forest restoration. We offer native plant tours on or off site with advance notice. We like our dog companions! Two McNab collies, Moxie and Shama live here and may bark at first...still very friendly and social with people and other dogs.. There are several dog friendly off-leash areas such as, Noyo North Harbor Beach, Seaside Beach and dog parks in both Ft Bragg and Mendocino. Our farm is dog friendly tho we wish pets to be kept close, must be neutered and friendly to other dogs and people. Please be sure to bury or bag the waste. Speaking of waste, Meadow Farm strives to reduce waste by avoiding plastic as much as possible, recycling what we can and composting our veggie scraps. Please bring your own waste receptacles and take them along when you go. We take ours to the Caspar Transfer Station which is open Saturday through Wednesday... the location and hours can be found online. Our water is from a deep well and we periodically test it for bacteria. It is cold and delicious. Our irrigation pipes that have spigots and hoses at each camp are safe for drinking, cooking and cleaning Our solar pump moves water into storage tanks that provide all the water to the farm. It is very important that the water valves on your camp spigot is turned off (gently please) to avoid losing 2500 gallons of water in a short time. If you see a leak or break in a line please contact us immediately. There are also water shut offs for the camps on the west side of the Farm House if you are unable to reach us right away.. When doing dishes we request that you use the strainer to catch food particles from the dish water and toss them in your trash or compost bucket. If you have vegetable waste let us know and we can pick them up for adding to the worm bins or composting piles. We make worm "tea" fertilizer and rich soil from these offerings. No animal products or oil please... a few egg shells are okay. We do have the usual wildlife though we haven't had problems with them. Ravens will raid your camp if food or bags are left out while you are away. From dusk to dawn keep children and pets close. We coexist well here with the critters...and glad to have them. We've headed into our Winter season, so we are offering a discounted price to camp. However, due to the weather of the season. Outdoor kitchen and showers are closed for the season. Starting April 15th 2026 the kitchen and outdoor showers we'll be fully reopen for Spring. There are several dog friendly off-leash areas such as, Noyo North Harbor Beach, Seaside Beach and dog parks in both Ft Bragg and Mendocino. Our farm is dog friendly tho we wish pets to be kept close, must be neutered and friendly to other dogs and people. Please be sure to bury or bag the waste. Speaking of waste, Meadow Farm strives to reduce waste by avoiding plastic as much as possible, recycling what we can and composting our veggie scraps. Please bring your own waste receptacles and take them along when you go. We take ours to the Caspar Transfer Station which is open Saturday through Wednesday... the location and hours can be found online. Our water is from a deep well and we periodically test it for bacteria. It is cold and delicious. Our irrigation pipes that have spigots and hoses at each camp are safe for drinking, cooking and cleaning Our solar pump moves water into storage tanks that provide all the water to the farm. It is very important that the water valves on your camp spigot is turned off (gently please) to avoid losing 2500 gallons of water in a short time. If you see a leak or break in a line please contact us immediately. There are also water shut offs for the camps on the west side of the Farm House if you are unable to reach us right away.. When doing dishes we request that you use the strainer to catch food particles from the dish water and toss them in your trash or compost bucket. If you have vegetable waste let us know and we can pick them up for adding to the worm bins or composting piles. We make worm "tea" fertilizer and rich soil from these offerings. No animal products or oil please... a few egg shells are okay. We do have the usual wildlife though we haven't had problems with them. Ravens will raid your camp if food or bags are left out while you are away. From dusk to dawn keep children and pets close. We coexist well here with the critters...and glad to have them. Weekend Trip to Vineyard Camping at Bad Rat Ranch

We loved Marek's tiny house, where we spent a beautiful December weekend. He and his dog Ceviche were wonderful hosts. Our own dog loved roaming around the large ranch, together with Ceviche, and we also enjoyed walking around the vineyards. Two incredible wineries, Wild Diamond and 6-sigma are very close by. We enjoyed tasting wine at both, and the views from the Wild Diamond tasting rooms is amazing.

Weekend Trip to Comptche Matrix @ Sunny-land

The tiny cabin is super cute and the bed is comfy. The view from the porch is amazing! We got lucky and got a clear night for the Geminid meteor shower and saw lots of shooting stars! I’m not always a “people person” but I loved meeting Sunny who is just the nicest! All the people and critters on Sunnyland are great! I will say, if you don’t like hearing kids at play or if you are afraid of super big, sweet dogs this may not be the place for you. Also, I couldn’t get the WiFi to work, but admittedly didn’t try too hard as there were better things to do than look at my phone! Oh, I also got a chance to look at the campsites and they are all very nice too. Next time we visit during nice weather I think we might try out the RidgeTop site!

Camping in the Vineyard was really something special. We were the only campers, so had 3 sites to choose from, and ended up taking spot 3 which was farthest from the barn. The trees on the property felt ancient, and the whole ambiance was incredible. There are groundskeepers on site but we only saw them when they dropped off our wine. The camp host was a beautiful pup, who was such a well behaved girl. She would occasionally come say hi but was never in the way or a nuisance at all. We'd definitely recommend checking it out. We felt like we had great privacy, and it was quiet the whole stay.

The Cozy Cabin is tiny and adorable - one of those rare properties that is actually exactly as described in its listing. We brought our dog and had a lovely stay. The bed is very comfortable, the cabin is well insulated, well spaced from other dwellings and campsites, the land around it is beautiful, and there are lots of stars to see on a clear night. Only noteworthy flaw was upon arrival: it was pretty tough to find our way in the dark. Arrive in the daylight if possible until they add clearer night-reflective signage and/or a detailed campsite map!

Sunny’s disposition, dogs, and property were the perfect refreshing getaway. You can’t get what you’re getting here from anywhere else, i will be back soon! There were a lot of things, also, that I didn’t realize she provided, like blankets and cooking utensils, even wood, for the stove inside the cabin. It’s still for the best to bring your own stuff in case you like to have specific stuff, and just to lessen the load on the host because she offers the space for such a good deal, but if you forget anything she was very generous and kind. She even used her leaf blower on the fire I was struggling to start in the fire pit near the cabin. The pit toilet was clean and not too hard to get to, with a very nice view, and there is a very good park for hiking 20 minutes away, a store 20 minutes in the opposite direction, and you can get to Mendocino or the Pygmy forest with another 20 minutes or so of driving. This would be a good place to stay if you want to visit the hot spring, too, as their camping is closed after November and their hotel is a little pricey. Safe, chill, and neat.

I just got back from a lovely weekend at Sunny’s cabin with my two kids, and it was exactly what we needed. The cabin is tucked into the redwoods, quiet and peaceful, and it really felt like a little forest adventure for the kids. Our favorite part was sitting by the fire at night, talking and relaxing together. Sunny was a wonderful host. She was warm, responsive, and helpful whenever I had a question, but also gave us plenty of privacy. Her two friendly dogs were a huge hit with the kids and made the place feel even more welcoming. I left feeling rested, my kids had a great time, and I would happily come back. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a cozy, nature-filled getaway.

Sunny is so sweet and this place is so charming! I had a lovely time staying here while visiting Mendocino, which is about 40 mins away. There were a couple things I was anxious about - windey roads and the steep driveway to get down to Sunny’s land - but all turned out fine and she put me right at ease. The cabin itself is very cute, outdoor kitchen and shower well functioning, and the dogs kept me company when I was by myself at night!

we had a beautiful evening and great sleep at Sunny’s place! sunset and stars from the deck were stunning, bed was super comfy, and it was such a treat to make breakfast with eggs from the chickens :) the tiny cabin is near to the main house on the property but plenty of visual privacy and super quiet at night and into the morning. Sunny was super kind and helpful!
