We are living our dream after recently finding and purchasing this beautiful 10 acre parcel, one of the sunniest in the canyon with a bucolic creek that flows all year. Just bring yourself and we have everything else!! Nestle up in the Cozy Gnome Home, a 1967 vintage trailer and listen to the symphony of frogs in the creek just outside your window. With love and labor... we gutted, redesigned and restored this little trailer for the ultimate functioning space for two. Detailed with a nice little kitchen with copper counters and everything you need for cooking and dining. A Berkey filter for clean water, hardwood floors and a comfy bed complete with organic latex mattress, down comforter and cotton sheets. Fold out dining table if you care to (or need to) eat indoors. There is also an outdoor kitchen space with a sink (no hot water), gas grill (upon request), propane burner (bring your own small canister) and a patio table and chairs. 1948- On January 1, 1948 a wildcatter named George Hadley, who had been oil prospecting in the valley for 10 years, made the first oil strike in the Cuyama Valley. Richfield Oil Company soon moved in and extracted nearly 300 million barrels of oil in just a few short years. To accommodate an exploding workforce in the early 1950s, the company built the town of New Cuyama, its infrastructure, public buildings, the Cuyama airstrip (L88) and all the industrial structures that are now home to Blue Sky. Richfield Oil Company, later merging with Atlantic Oil Company forming the Atlantic Richfield Oil Company (ARCO), created high-paying jobs, a safe and prosperous community, and developed schools, churches, and recreational areas for the employee-residents.1973- With dwindling production in the area and new discoveries in Alaska, Atlantic-Richfield Oil Company put the town of New Cuyama and its associated infrastructure up for sale. Word of an entire town for sale made its way to entrepreneur, Russell O’Quinn of the Foundation for Airborne Relief (FAR) and Mildred Dotson, a wealthy widow from Tulsa, Oklahoma. The two worked together to acquire the townsite and adjacent land. O’Quinn, an aviator, inventor, and test pilot, aspired to use the New Cuyama airstrip and facilities as a base for humanitarian relief and a non-profit trade school. Though not fully realized, FAR’s primary vision included utilizing converted military aircraft to airlift food and medical supplies to developing countries and global disaster areas. Dotson had loftier goals. Her plans included an 18-hole fly-in golf course, expansion of the Buckhorn Restaurant and Motel, and a 40- to 50-acre lake for amphibious landing and water sports. 1986- Another visionary, Harry Kislevitz, inventor of the popular design tool Colorforms® and founder of Future City/Villages International, sought to develop the site as a “City of Friendship,” an all-electric village of 5,000 earthen homes. The dwellings were to be designed by Nader Khalili, an Iranian-born architect who specialized in earthen structures, worked with NASA on prototypes for lunar homes and received an award from the United Nations for his work towards the development of low cost, sustainable structures for human shelter in impoverished and disaster prone environments. One 628-sq-ft Khalili prototype remains on the property today ("the Cantina"). Khalili went on to form the California Institute for Earth Art and Architecture, Cal-Earth, in Hesperia, CA.1993- Recognizing the transformative potential of clean, solar power and the attractiveness of a rural destination, entrepreneur Mike Nolan worked to develop the Solar Skypark and Big Sky Guest Ranch with Santa Barbara Architect, Barry Berkus. The Sky Park included plans for sixty-five fly-in residences on one-acre lots powered completely from clean, solar energy. The Big Sky Guest Ranch was intended to function as a clubhouse for Skypark residents complete with an equestrian center, a small subsistence farm, pool and plenty of enriching recreational activities. 2012- At the end of 2011, the Zannon Family Foundation made a long-term investment in acquiring the New Cuyama Airport property with the vision of rehabilitating the site to be a low-cost resource for programs and organizations working to advance sustainable living practices and technologies. Plans began soon after towards developing a framework and organization to develop the space and coordinate with prospective programs and institutions. In 2014 Blue Sky Sustainable Living Center ("Blue Sky Center") received 501(c)(3) not-for-profit status, endeavoring to reclaim this property for the public good. Today, Blue Sky Center provides unduplicated services and technical assistance to support small businesses and entrepreneurs as well as the local food system, with core work focused on community research and advocacy led by Cuyamans. We came back again because we love this spot. Easy to access, quiet and peaceful. Enjoyed our days in Avila beach and Morro doing walks and hikes and beach time. Great food in the area and using the outdoor kitchen area was fun. Beautiful property and nice doggie visitors. Oh and hot showers and stars at night made it even better. Grateful this is open to hipcampers. See you again later this year . Birdwatching was also great!

My best friend and I had such a fun stay over Fourth of July weekend! Lorna was so welcoming and such a vibe. Her property is beautiful, peaceful, and full of adorable animals like horses, goats, ducks, and frogs. We loved that it felt private but also enjoyed getting to interact with her and the animals. The little kitchen was stocked with thoughtful extras, which was such a nice touch. The tent itself was so cozy inside and the beds were super comfortable! It’s also super close to Pismo Beach and Montaña de Oro State Park, making it the perfect weekend getaway. We’d definitely stay here again!

The site is beautiful and the camper is amazing. Very comfortable and had everything we needed. And such a bonus to have a warm outside shower, and the cleanest compost toilet I have ever used! We didn’t have time to tour the farm but the chickens were sweet and the place had an amazing vibe. Lorna is wonderful, accommodating and answered any questions we had. We will definitely visit again soon!

Weekend Trip to Camp Arroyo Grande

We had a wonderful stay at Gillespie lodge! The central location makes this camp ideal for coastal adventures. It had plenty of space for our family with three bedrooms, and everything was clean and well maintained. The kitchen was very clean and, while it had minimal supplies, it had everything we needed to prepare our meals. The bathrooms were thoughtfully laid out and worked well for our group. The beds varied a bit in comfort, but everyone slept well and they were all comfortably adequate. This was our third stay here, and Joyce was just as welcoming and kind as always. She is a wonderful host and always makes us feel right at home. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this lodge!

We stayed in flood #5, the grounds were beautiful, the pool was closed when we arrived so the host opened it and even extended the time by an hour for the inconvenience! The space was a great place to crash for a night. Super cute animals and farm stand and the RV is set up well. We were unsuccessful at using the oven but were able to use the stove. The switches for the lights are a little hidden around the RV but super nice variety of lighting options.

We just got back from Free Dog Farms and already can't stop talking about it. Sierra and Darin are the absolute best. They make you feel like you've known them for years within the first five minutes. What we loved most is that they actually encourage your dogs to run off leash. Our dog was in full heaven mode the entire trip; running, exploring, living his best life. It's so hard to find places that are truly dog-friendly and not just tolerating your pet. Free Dog Farms is the opposite of that. They LOVE dogs there and it shows. We were treated like family the whole time. No awkward "checkout is at 11" stuff. We're already talking about when we're going back. 10/10 would recommend to anyone!

Weekend Trip to Harmony's Glamping

Harmony's is a truly magical place. It seems to exist in two dimensions at once: rugged and luxurious. The line between them is so thin that, at any given moment, you lose track of which one you're experiencing. One minute, you're taking in the most beautiful, natural shower view you've ever had. The next, you're reminded that the shower is completely open-air and equally accessible to every insect in the surrounding ecosystem. The property itself is serene, pristine, and wonderfully secluded. The hiking trails are marked, but they're not beginner trails. We successfully made the round trip to the waterfall with a 6 and 8 year old, and a small dog. It wasn't easy, but we took our time and made some incredible memories. The host was responsive, available, and helpful from beginning to end. We had a wonderful stay and will absolutely be back.

Weekend Trip to Harmony's Glamping

Harmony was wonderful helping us get situated. This is a fantastic glamping spot. The Hidden Yurt was beautiful and spacious. The description and instructions do a good giving all the details needed to know and what's available. Suggestion - take a photo of instructions as internet is spotty at best. Highly recommended for a unique glamping experience in one of the most beautiful areas of the world.

3 nights at Dare 2 Dream Farms

We had an excellent stay at Dare 2 Dream farms. Located in a quiet canyon it had every that we were looking for and exceeded our expectation. Jeremy has created a perfect balance between the farm and the trailers. Top spot! We will be back. Thank you for your hospitality.

1 night at Lisa S.’s Land

We loved staying in Lisa's cozy, charmning cabin. We really appreciated the note regarding the history of the land and cabin left on the wall. The cabine had a great amount of amenities, includes a towel warmer, robes, French press and a filtered picture of water. The fireplace was easy to use and worked very well. The shared outside space was serene, with a working water feature and plenty of seating.
