Getting There
Property is located ~9 miles down a dirt road in the bottom of a canyon with the North Fork of the Feather River at the bottom of it. Normal sedans should be OK getting down to the property if you drive slowly and are careful. Travel trailers are also fine but you should be cautious taking anything larger than 30 feet. Once you start down the road there is no place to turn around until you are at the bottom of the canyon.

* There is no cellular reception at the property.
* I have used Starlink here in the past and it works great.
* A fire in 2021 burned much of the tree coverage. Campsite 1 has very little tree coverage. Campsite 2 is nestled among trees.
* The property used to be an operating gold mine. There is old equipment onsite. DO NOT climb or touch any of the old equipment!

If you desire reconnection with yourself and/or your partner or family, you'll find the space for nature baths, earthing and grounding in the big trees and gardens at Birdsong. Guests have called Birdsong Retreat the best adult summer camp ever, while also being a superbly peaceful place to hear the birds and frogs, and see stars, far away from city lights. Our forested camp sites are located one mile from Lake Davis and ten minutes driving from the town of Portola. The Lakes Basin is a half hour away. Mountain biking and hiking trails are all around Lake Davis and the Lakes Basin. Lake Davis is famous for fishing and burd watching. We have dispersed camping throughout two acres with a nice and clean bathroom, plenty of parking and easy access to our sites from Grizzly road. We have a seasonal creek running through the property. Drinking water and hand soap provided, please bring your towels and toiletries. Please leave your food in your car as we are in bear country. The star gazing is amazing here!!

We have an organic garden you can help yourself to, outdoor shower and outdoor kitchen area. We are close to many lakes that offer, kayaking, fishing, boating and swimming. There are many local farmers markets as close as 1/2 mile. Wildlife on property and hiking trails. Blackberries are ripe in July and the garden vegetables come in from May to October. Quiet and peaceful nature abounds. Pets are always welcome too.

Kari was so accommodating and friendly, she greeted us right away and gave us a tour of our spot. We felt right at home immediately! There was even a little shack next to our spot that had a game area! My son was very happy! We were very pleased with our stay and the host and will be back!

Kari was absolutely awesome, extremely hospitable, and was always available for anything we needed. She gave great recommendations, and even let us borrow her can opener! :)
The space itself was really great. Lots of room for parking, nice, large flat areas for tents (bring a tarp, though, because it is mostly gravel), chairs and picnic table, a cool little setup underneath some aspens and pines. Pop-up toilet situation was easy to work with. Really nice to have access to potable water and firewood.
The BARn was freakin' epic! It was so fun to spend a day at Lake Davis kayaking and swimming, then coming back and roasting up some dinner on the provided fire pit (so awesome!) and hanging out in the converted mini-barn. It had fun lighting, speakers, a cool bar-style island, couches, etc... Having access to the wilderness and then what felt like our own private little pub back at our campsite? Epic.
My only *heads up* would be that the site itself isn't what I would consider remote. It is super conveniently located, especially with regard to the lake, but it is also part of a larger property, so you do share a driveway with the host's house as well as her tenant's space. It's not bad by any means, but it also isn't a private campsite deep in the woods, so, if you are looking for that type of remote privacy, just keep this in mind.
I went with 4 of my friends for a little bachelor getaway and, ultimately, it rocked. Highly recommend.

Kari’s campground is such a perfect vacation spot!! Located minutes from the lake and nestled in a beautiful grove of trees, it was such a fun and welcoming experience!
Kari is such an amazing person, she made us feel like family! She greeted us when we arrived and showed us around while also giving tips and explaining the local wildlife, which I appreciated so much as a mom of littles. She also checked in every now and then to make sure we were comfortable and that we had everything we needed. Such a great host!❤️
The site was super spacious, table was clean and the area is so nice we didn’t need to use our bug spray!
The barn is so relaxing as well, and was fun to have lunch in when we got back from Coot Bay(definitely a place worth checking out). Beautiful warm water, sandy beach looking into beautiful trees and mountains. Bring your fishing gear if you like to fish, someone caught a HUGE rainbow trout next to us!! 🐟
We enjoyed the outdoor games provided, and the sound system was a huge plus with a Bluetooth option or we stuck to the local radio station which was great!!
I noticed how Kari’s property gets plenty of both sun and shade at all times during the day, which is HUGE for us as we had our 2y/o, 5y/o & senior pup as well. There was potable water on sight with a hose that made it easy to fill the kids pool!
