Those of you who have experienced camping before know that these are all normal things when out in nature but for those of you who have no camping experience I ask you to come with an open mind and a positive attitude towards a new experience. If you think you may have problems with any of these things PLEASE DON'T COME!!! We also have a dog named Sara that loves people. Most campers that come are very happy to have her around. She is polite and good with children. Some of you may not like dogs, if that is the case this will not be a fun experience for you. Please note that as of spring 2021 we no longer have as many animals. Because of the drought feed prices are too high.

Welcome to our land in the beautiful wilderness of upper Calistoga. Our land is a nature experience, with some development of trails and amenities, at our family land just 10 minutes outside of Calistoga, with wineries, spas, and restaurants. The hilltop (where Coral Cabin is located) has electricity and wifi, and is a common area for all campers; . The main house and deck is not part of the hipcamp; the tenants are a nice family and caretakers of the land, but not the host. Our sites are no frills, cute and rustic, and “user responsible” meaning the price includes basic “leave no trace”cleaning guidelines. Because of this, communication with Dan is super important to ensure expectations are clear for you and us, our land is respected, and you have a great time! Rules for all sites, read before you book! 1. We provide trash bags and ask that you take all trash and recycling to the bottom of the driveway, in the 'hipcamp' trash bin provided (smaller grey bin by mailbox). 2. We have a compost toilet system designed by a graduate of the Occidental Ecology Center permaculture course. It has pros and cons, but when operated correctly, it is a good system: All you gotta do is add mulch (which is any dried leaves or grass), on top of your own biz and it begins to break down waste immediately, including smell. If in doubt, add more mulch; you can find it in a bin by the toilet or gather a handful at time of service. Or: There are also nice coffee shops in town:) 3. The nature of our land being wild, there are no wood fires allowed. We have propane fire pits, and ask guests to use extreme caution with bug candles or smoking anything. We currently have 3 campsites. Please see descriptions for each campsite access and services available. *The Hilltop/Coral Cabin has the most access, Wi-Fi, cooking appliances, and the best views. Each campsite has a gas camping stove and compost toilet. You will see lots of wildlife! Beautiful birds song every morning, little lizards everywhere, turkeys, a toad here and there! You can hike the extent of our 34 acres on fire roads that lead to the top of the Whaleback Ridge, seen in the distance from all camps. That would be an epic sunset hike! Ettawa Springs Resort dates back to the 1920s like the fashionable resorts in the Cobb area where the rich and famous came to play. But Ettawa was oriented towards families and a more relaxed and rustic atmosphere. We are working hard to restore her to her former glory. We are excited to announce that we have one cabin and a few campsites ready for use and will be adding more as we go. The campground offers hot showers and flush toilets, two sites in the Glade have running water and power. The cabin is a fully equipped studio with kitchen and bathroom. You can hike through our property to the Boggs Mountain Demonstration Forest or just enjoy the clean air and listen to the wind and the birds. On clear nights the stars put on an amazing show. Clear Lake is about 45 minutes away with all the fishing and water sports you could ask for. Harbin Hot Springs are 15 minutes away and they offer day passes for reasonable rates. We are located about 20 minutes outside of Middletown. Be aware that half of the road is dirt (and that's better than the asphalt half) all of it is fine for small cars, just take your time. The last 1/2 mile or so is a one lane road, so please be careful of opposing traffic and uneven surfaces. We cannot accommodate vehicles longer than 28’ on these roads. Please do not take County Road 110 from Boggs/Cobb - it is not maintained at all. We offer California camping at its finest. Fresh air, whispering trees, amazing star fields . . . this can mean the less attractive side of nature as well. We have ticks, rattlesnakes, stinging things, poison oak, uneven trails and surfaces, and a bear on one ridge with mountain cats on the other (no sign of either in the campground). We keep the restroom stocked with Tecnu for the poison oak, but please watch yourselves and especially children. Dogs are welcome, but should be kept on lead and inside at night for their own protection and the comfort of others. We are fairly hands off in our hosting approach. Unless there's a question or problem, you likely won't see us. But we have people close by and are only a message away.

Excellent Group Site! We only host one group at a time so you can be with your family and friends in a large, flat and private space. Choose between the campground, the cabin, or both! You can add the cabin to your campground stay under "extras'! The land was originally purchased in the 1980's. Since then, it has been used by four generations of the family as a place to gather, relax, camp and even celebrate. I had my wedding on the property in 2010. For a few years we held an annual music festival with the very inventive name of Samapalooza. Up to 400 people would attend the day filled with live music, food and drinks. You will still find the stage and bar we built as an outdoor kitchen and dining area. Around 2008, my father and I planted our first olive trees. Many have been planted since which has gifted the land the timeless sense of purpose it deserves. My father dedicated his last years to tending the young trees and now I have taken the mantle to carry the farm forward. 'The Property', as it is known amongst family and friends has always been a place to camp. I have sat around the same fire ring for decades, rain or shine. I hope that fellow hipcampers can find the joy that my family and I have experienced here. This is a very private camp on a small olive farm. Geographically close to highways and the town of Novato, Sonoma and Napa wine country, this camp feels remote and secluded. Only one camp on the property to keep it private and special. You basically have your run of the land. We have just updated the land and made some nice improvements. Located on ten acres, you will drive past a small olive grove before reaching the spacious and open campground. Just up the hill from the camp is a private pond where you can fish, take out a small boat or just sit and watch the birds. It can be great swimming on hot summer days. This spot has been used by the family for decades and is now open to share with fellow nature lovers. Just a note: While the majority of the time you can expect complete privacy, this is a working olive farm. From time to time you may run into me (Sam) or someone else associated with the land. You also have access to the outdoor picnic area under the fig tree which has a BBQ, picnic table and sink for rinsing dishes. There is no indoor shower, but we do have a rustic outdoor shower with hot and cold water. Tent space We have a small orchard in front of the Nopal Studio. There is room for two tent sites. No camp fires are allowed in the orchard. If it is winter time, we do have a fire ring in the fig tree picnic area, as well as a propane BBQ. The bathroom is shared with the cabins. We have farm animals and dogs which can be loud. The dogs chase squirrels and bark maniacally, and the ducks quack at sunrise, like, lots! There are also spiders, wasps, bees, rattlesnakes etc!! Please be aware, this is snake country!

Bill and his wife have made a beautiful home over the years and i would definitely stay again.

Rachel's place was just right. The property is gorgeous and there is a good balance of privacy and also feeling you are part of the farm. She also did a great job of including little touches that make a guest feel well taken care of. I would gladly recommend staying here to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway tucked into a working farm where you can see and hear cows, ducks, chickens and more!

Weekend Trip to Unhitched Snug Harbor RV Park & Marina

Our family loved our stay at the Snuggle Inn! My boys had a good time fishing off the docks and swimming in the water. There was room for the kids to run around and even a little park playset for them to play on. It was over 100 degrees during our stay, but the AC runs nice and cold in the living room. We set up a fan to circulate air to the bedroom, since it got a little hot back there. Depending on your route, check to make sure the ferries are open! No fault of the hosts, but the main ferry - The Real McCoy was closed when we went, so it added an hour and a half to our drive time.

Weekend Trip to Swallowtail Historic Art Studio

This place feels like a labor of love. Communication was excellent from the start. Bill provided clear instructions, stayed in touch, and made us feel welcome. You can tell hosting is something he genuinely loves. Although we didn’t get to meet Michelle, her presence is woven throughout the property. The gardens, eclectic treasures, and artwork create a magical atmosphere. The cottage was wonderful. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the dual-controlled heated mattress was a favorite feature. The natural light was breathtaking and made it easy to slow down and simply be present. We loved soaking in the hot tub under the stars and were lucky enough to see the resident deer in the evening and again outside our window the next morning. The bathtub, stained glass, and artistic touches made the stay feel special. Breakfast on the deck with homemade bread, fruit, tea, and coffee was the perfect way to start the day. It was fun thinking about the creative energy that has moved through these spaces. Members of the Grateful Dead spent time here, and there is a wonderful sense of artistry, history, and community woven throughout the property. A tip for future guests: bring a robe for the cozy walks between the cottage and separate bathroom area. Also, this is a cottage with character, not a modern hotel, so if the occasional spider or tiny bug bothers you, come prepared for a more rustic experience. This was the perfect weekend getaway. Already thinking of our return.

2 nights at The Olive Farm

Beautiful site with lots of room to run around and a cozy cabin! My teenage sons and I stayed here and we had a blast rowing the boat on the pond, horsing around in the yard, swinging on the swing. There's a huge largemouth bass that hangs out at the pier, but we didn't try fishing. It has a double bed as well as a twin plus a roll-out underneath, so room for 4, but it was a bit of a squeeze for my 6' tall son. Unfortunately we came on the same day that campfire restrictions went in, so we didn't get to try out the fire pit, but we made the best of it.

The 250 square foot cabin has an air conditioner for the summer months, a wood stove or electric heater for the winter months.

Beautiful setting and so very unique. Very convenient to get to after the show at Rancho Nicasio. Luxuriously warm and comfortable bed! So amazing to be able to soak in the hot tub on a blustery evening. Hosts were easy to communicate with and we enjoyed meeting and talking with Bill. Very much looking forward to visiting again. Don’t miss the picture book on the nightstand of the construction process. Thanks Bill and Michelle for sharing your beautiful place!

Dans land was beautiful and the location was great in terms of exploring the area. There is a lot of poison oak at Manzanitas so I’m might do the shady oak site if you have a dog. The shed has a fair amount of creepy crawlies but the futon was really comfortable and we liked staying in it. The site isn’t tended to very much so plan on bringing your own gear in case items are missing or out of commission. Overall it’s a great way to explore and experience the area if you’re on a budget. I’d definitely come back!

Weekend Trip to Kimball Farm

George was a great host; communicative, helpful, and greeted us when we arrived. He’s also a skilled winemaker, so if he’s around during your visit, don't miss out on a tasting! Pups Sara and Nala are great with people, even young children, and we had a lot of fun throwing the ball for them. The trees next to the pond provided great shade from the afternoon heat, and there were no mosquitoes! That said, bullfrogs recently found their way into the pond from the canals, and they are very noisy at night. Bring earplugs if you need quiet to sleep. The cabin itself is clean and comfortable inside (and has AC!) but don't forget your own bedding; the futon fit a full size fitted sheet nicely. My toddler and I found the futon to be okay, but there's room in there to set up your own cot or inflatable mattress if you really wanted to, plus plenty of room to pitch a tent outside on the lawn. At sunset, you can open the gate at the rear of the property to hike to the top of the hills for a nice view (there are free roaming cattle in the area). It was convenient having well water and a stove already set up for camper use. One tip - a headlamp makes using the restroom much easier. And this is still the country, so spider webs and other creepy crawlies are around. But if you're okay with that, this is a nice spot to get away from the crowds, relax, and savor spending your days slowly away from the daily grind.

I had a fantastic and comfy time at Rachels land. You are on a working farm down a quiet, pastoral road. The farm is hugged by old oaks and grazing fields with colorful singing birds. Their land is dotted with a bounty of fruit trees and sheep, chickens, cows and ducks. It's really like heaven! The accommodations themselves are clean and cozy and very cute. The cabin itself fits a queen and twin bed, and the room has AC and homey, sweet details and art. Immediately outside the cabin are a few seating areas for eating or conversation/ contemplation, as well as cute ornamental garden beds. A few steps away, the kitchen was well stocked, including fresh eggs! and kind of rustic chic vibe with reclaimed farmhouse details. Care and artistry definitely went into designing the bathroom too, and it really felt like home. The space was comfy, easy to access ( not many steps between all the spots I'm talking about and from the parking itself) and it was so memorable. It's just down the road from full belly farm and about 45 minutes from wilbur hot springs. We couldn't have picked a better place to spend the night, and wake up to the birdsong!
