If you love the high desert, or you simply must travel through, Jon's place is a unique experience. Here's a lake where you'd least expect to find it. Jon was once a sea captain who did sea floor explorations. He recalled it as a pretty exciting experience of what they were finding. A fleet of little boats pose in various evocative attitudes on the spring-fed pond/lake. He acquired them from a Longbeach warehouse being torn down, where he was told he could take whatever he wanted. These boats were ready at one time to cruise around the pond and now add to a singular imaginal setting. Ducks live on this small lake; geese land occasionally. The whole place is remarkably out in the desert. The spring that dates back some years has become this lake fixed up with a simple lively fountain amidst the boats lounging in and around it. A ladder is set up for swimmers to climb out. There's a small laundromat, solar power and lots of wild interesting stuff. Jon himself is the most interesting. You'll probably meet him, though he'll respect your mood to go. Jon studied geography, geology. A self-described talker with a philosophical bent, we found him to be a great listener as well. When asked how someone who lived so long a sailor on the open sea can move to the baron high desert, Jon says they're the same: No sane? Sensible? person would live in either place. Both are vast, largely empty of humans, and beautiful.

Loved sleeping in the Tipi- it was so cosy and warm. The bed was super comfortable and the tipi is bigger than you might expect. Lovely little kitchen & open shower too.

It's a funky, eclectic experience. The host has done a lot to make the place fun. From the camp bar with games to the zip line to the watercraft, the site is an all-in-one, stay-and-play adventure. As the listing states, this is NOT a child-friendly camp, but our dog loved it! We had a blast learning to pedal boat, doing some stargazing, and watching the geese.

We loved staying at Sandy Valley Ranch in the tipi. It was a unique stay with all the amenities one would need to be comfortable. The tipi was perfect for 2 adults and we slept well. The outdoor kitchen and campfire cooking tools were more than enough for a glamper to make a meal. The facilities were close and clean. The valley is the real star of the show with incredible sunrises, sunsets and night skies. Thank you for sharing your ranch with us.

We had a great overnight stay. Our host was a great communicator and extremely accommodating, making the entire experience smooth and enjoyable. The site was absolutely perfect for a quick overnight stop – level ground made setup easy, and the bonus mountain view was a beautiful surprise. The location is conveniently close to the highway, which made access super easy for our travel trailer. Plus, our host had fresh chicken and duck eggs available – the best! We love fresh eggs, and these did not disappoint. We had no issues at all during our stay and got a great night’s sleep before heading out on the next leg of our trip. Highly recommend for anyone passing through that needs a no frills stop!

Such a cute cozy little spot we felt very welcomed and every question we had was answered very promptly. Everyone on site was super friendly and just a great much-needed little getaway just outside of town.

The tee pee was really cool, our kids (5 and 9 yo) loved the adventure! We enjoyed the fire pit and the stars at night. Very peaceful, remote and a fun experience for us all. We did bring an air mattress for the kids and extra bedding as well.

This camping site was charming from the photos but exceeded my expectations once we got there. The Ravens Nest Tipi towards the back of the ranch was so awesome 👌🏼 There were outlets, lights, pots and pans, grilling equipment for the bonfire, and even skewers for smores! I can definitely see that Sandy Valley Ranch cares about your experience. They even had things that people would probably forget like bug spray available for you to use. Even for a seemingly middle of nowhere camping site in the middle of the desert, they really make it so easy for guests. I hope to bring my mom here to experience it too! 10/10 would recommend

It was a great place to see the sunset and sunrise! I loved having the animals and took the best trail ride right from the ranch. The hummingbird had all the basics I needed. The signs to the camp were great, as I came in after dark and had no problem finding it.

A lovely stay in a beautiful and cozy setup. We were worried we might be chilly as temps weren’t too high, but the site was well equipped with heated blankets, extra blankets, and a space heater. The hosts also responded very promptly when the propane tank for the space heater had run empty. We also loved the outdoor shower and kitchen. Overall a great spot to stay, and a great experience spending time on the ranch and in the nearby town!

Such a great place with the best hosts! Had absolutely no issues getting in and set up. Jacob & Jeanette left a pile of firewood for me and offered up ice or anything else I needed. After getting trapped in Afton Canyon for a very long day (but making it back after nightfall) both hosts checked in on me that night and in the morning. It was so nice knowing I had some people caring about my wellbeing and knowing where I was on my solo travel incase anything went sideways. Also, Jacob met me with a thunder egg he cut open for me and rockhounded himself right behind their property! Nothing makes me happier than a dog or a cool rock 🤘🏽 love this place and definitely need to come back as there is so much to explore in the area

I dont even know where to start on expressing my gratitude about this place. The tepee is wonderful, its so gorgeous and so well maintained, you can clearly see how they truly care about your experience, the ranch animals are amazing and the ranch dogs will come around to give you cuddles which its a huge plus. But foremost I would like to highlight my personal experience with Sandi the manager of the ranch, I left something super important at the ranch and she went above and beyond to make sure it would get to me in time, I cant express enough my gratitude on that and how this is clearly more than a business, its a place with such good caring people and amazing glamping sites at the same time. Thank you so much for an amazing night out under the starts and also for helping me on a personal level. I would absolutely come back! You should DEFINITELY stay in this place❤️

Everything went extremely well. Check-in was smooth, we were greeted by a cowboy which was cool. He was very nice as you'd imagine. We admired the horses in the afternoon, and the sunset at night was really nice. The stars were bright and the firepit was great! Airstream was clean, bathroom was easy to use. Loved the vibes all together. 10/10

A very open-minded and logical atmosphere, indeed. Every day can be Halloween or Mardi-gras, therefore, adults only. 20 acres in total. 5 acres are "developed" providing 6 Full Hook-up R/V sites. There are another 15 acres "out back." (undeveloped, sand dunes and seclusion if desired..... easy 4wd access.) ALL developed sites are available for dry OR full hookup. $45/night dry camping or $55/night full hook-up for up to four guests....add $10per erson over 4 people. Spaces 2 thru 6 will accommodate trailers/RVs of any length.....or tents of course. (Space 1, being the exception because it is a difficult back-in (on the "blind side") and drive-out. However, single unit, Class A, B, C....Vans, Truck Campers, Motor homes, etc up to 45', no problem. 1/2 acre swimming pond/lake (no fish), zip line, rowboats, pedal boats, paddle boards. You want to also Help the Planet: Our mission is to reduce Global Warming by planting more trees and recycle whatever we can recycle such as tires, plastic bottles, water, etc. According to the Arbor Day Foundation , in one year a mature tree will absorb more than 48 pounds of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and release oxygen in exchange. The proceeds from this campground will go back into the campground. Trying to make this desert green will require a lot of help and donations. So far I've been trying to germinate fruit trees that will survive in these extreme weather conditions, 28 degrees to 120 degrees in the summer. My seedlings are growing too slow. We would need bigger plants to put outside. So if you guys have any desert plants lying around and would like to plant them in this campground, bring them over. Ideal trees that will survive here are: pines, desert orchids, pomegranates, persimmons, jujubes, Asian apples, date palms, granny apples, figs, peaches, nectarines, almonds, pistachios, olives, grapes, etc. We prefer fruit trees and multi-purpose plants so everyone can literally enjoy the "Fruits of their Labor" here. There are quite a few lake communities around here. From Our site, you can see the infamous Volcano House, featured in recent movie “Honey, Don’t Worry” with Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde. The closest shopping centers is only 17 miles away in Barstow.
