When it comes to rockhounding, or amateur geology, this is a fantastic area for exploration and study. We gladly welcome pets, as long as you take care of all their needs, including cleaning up any mess and filling in any holes. Well mannered, friendly dogs may be unleashed from time to time. Please, PLEASE watch your small pets carefully. If you're traveling with cats, please keep them on a lead. There is a riding academy and boarding facility adjacent to our property, and a long pleasant trail allows horseback riders, hikers and cyclists to travel along the Verde Greenway into Old Town Cottonwood, a pleasant 30 minute walk through lush riparian area. Hawks Hideaway is a family owned property, occupied by a 3rd and 4th generation, mother-son team. Two generations have lived and died here before us and we are proud to be the custodians of this majestic property, full of old growth, gigantic cottonwood trees. A birdwatcher, or naturalists dream. Hawks Hideaway is a natural and secluded spot located directly adjacent to the state-maintained Verde River Greenway. This means you may encounter wildlife and pests associated with being in such close connection to nature. Hawks Hideaway is next to many miles of wilderness. You may see or encounter wildlife of all kinds, most are harmless, some are dangerous. It is your responsibility to know the difference. We back up to the San Pedro Riparian Area, and the San Pedro River, offering hiking, birding, wildlife watching, and other recreational activities. The roads leading to the property from Hereford Road are dirt that are regularly maintained, but you may experience some washboard along the way depending on the season. Cochise County is dark sky country. After viewing those amazing Arizona sunsets, cast your eyes on the night sky, and see stars and the Milky Way like you've never experienced before! Experience the abundant wildlife that comes through the property. Birds, Javelina, deer, listen to the coyotes howl. It simply is magical! Bird watching: Experience hundreds of different species of birds in Cochise County (485 at last count). Lots of different hummingbirds (we're the hummingbird capital of the United States), hawks, sparrows, roadrunners, cactus wren, quail, and the list goes on. Be sure to hike down the San Pedro River, or to Ramsey Canyon to see even more! Hiking: With an abundance of canyons in the area, there's hiking opportunities all around us! A short 10 minute drive lands you at the foot of the Huachuca Mountains with Ramsey Canyon, Miller Canyon, Carr Canyon, and many more! But above all, we have a private gate leading to the BLM land situated right next to the RV pad! Feel free to use it to go and explore, maybe even hike down to the river. Don't be surprised if you see people on horseback, as this is a very popular equestrian area. There are tons of sightseeing opportunities around us, such as Bisbee (be sure to check out Old Bisbee, and the Bisbee Breakfast Club for some amazing food), Tombstone (OK Corral puts on a very entertaining show), Cartchner Caverns State Park, Coronado National Memorial. All within a short drive from here. If you'd like to visit Mexico, you can cross at Naco (about 15 minute drive) or at Douglas (about 45 minutes) Lots of restaurants in Sierra Vista, but we recommend trying Mimosa Pizzeria, or La Sierra Steakhouse, both just a 10 minute drive down the road, along with Dollar General for your immediate needs. The RV site offers full hookups, 30/50 Amp service. Your pets are welcome to roam around off leash, as long as they're people and dog friendly.

We had the BEST time camping at Ash Creek Canyon. It’s truly hard for me to find words or sum up our trip in a short paragraph. To put it simply, it feels like we only saw the tip of the iceberg as far as exploration goes in Chrysotile. We cannot wait to go back and learn and explore some more. Our stay was magical. Andy was a top-notch host, super accommodating with speedy correspondence, and truly just a pleasure to be around. His enthusiasm, love and awe for this land shined bright. He showed us around all of the land reachable via side-by-side and gave us a grand tour on the history of the abandoned mining town. There is so much to uncover there. Not only was the history fascinating, but the scenery was BEAUTIFUL… truly enchanting. We camped at site #2, Waterfall Pasture. We were perfectly secluded from other campers and felt like we had the whole area to ourselves.. which was great as we were camping with our two young daughters and three dogs (a rather loud bunch). We couldn’t have asked for a better weekend getaway, and cannot wait to come back. THANK YOU ANDY!

I had an amazing time at this campsite! It’s nestled in the woods, surrounded by shady trees, and has plenty of space to set up your tent. I stayed at site 7, which was pretty flat and had soft, easy-to-sink ground for my tent stakes. The sounds from the surrounding area were incredible - I heard a rooster, cows, owls, and a donkey. It felt super secluded, and if you venture into the woods, there’s a pond that’s perfect for taking photos. I made a delicious dinner and enjoyed sitting around the campfire. In the morning, I was greeted by a friendly Hipcamp doggy who hung around for a bit. Overall, it was a lovely place, and the town nearby is close by with restaurants and shops.

Richard's property is eclectic and fun to wander. He met Mr a the gate and I was immediately introduced to two wonderful livestock dogs. Once we met, they were my friends and guardians as I wandered the property. Richard is the kindest man and shared lots of stories. The property is full of fun art from past burning man ventures. I think this guy could build anything you could imagine. There are goats, ducks, and a green house where he grows good own vegetables. He and a friend are planning on growling micro greens in a contraption they built. This spot was a lot of fun and the perfect place to spend time and relax. If you are not into being in a chill atmosphere, animals and some duck poop, them stay clear. But if you want to experience a fun piece of property then this is the place. Make sure you get to know Richard and ask for a tour. You won't regret the experience.

I can’t say enough good things about our experience at sacred Springs. But before I get to the property, let me tell you about the hosts. We had first planned on going to the property a month ago and had some serious car troubles that made that journey impossible. I’m pretty cynical, so typically anywhere that I’ve paid some amount of money to put a deposit down and circumstances have come up that impacted our ability to get somewhere ,not the place we were going, I usually just consider the deposit given as a loss. Never to be see again. “ thanks for playing, but sorry we have to keep your money because we are uncaring un-empathetic, greedy bastards.” That was not even remotely close to the experience we had BEFORE even making it there. We reached out to inform Gary and Darrell that we would be unable to make it, sadly but would be looking forward to coming in the future. These remarkable gentlemen who were so kind throughout the entire communication process before we even booked, continued this kindness and added empathy and sympathy for our situation. Still emailing and talking to us while we were in the midst of a horrific experience with our vehicle, not near our home and dealing with the costs and every other negative you could have. These two were like a ray of sunshine. Their gracious and sincere words in the emails and their hospitality and generosity is like nothing I’ve seen in years… decades even. They refunded us and offered a complimentary stay.
