Ash Creek Canyon is more than a place to camp — it’s a hidden world reopened after nearly a century of quiet. Tucked within the Tonto National Forest, this privately owned canyon and historic mining town have remained untouched by the public since 1945. Today, the gates are open once again, inviting adventurers to experience one of Arizona’s most pristine and biologically rich landscapes. Here, towering canyon walls cradle lush greenery, native wildlife, and the gentle flow of Ash Creek as it winds through the valley. Scenic campsites sit along the water’s edge, offering peaceful views and direct access to hiking trails that lead through diverse ecosystems recognized by Arizona Fish & Game for their exceptional biodiversity. At the heart of the canyon lies Chrysotile, a long‑forgotten mining town frozen in time. Its remnants add a sense of mystery and history to your stay — a rare chance to explore a piece of Arizona’s past in a setting few have ever seen. Whether you’re a seasoned camper or experiencing the outdoors for the first time, Ash Creek Canyon offers a blend of tranquility, adventure, and discovery. Set up your tent beneath star‑filled skies, wander through untouched wilderness, or simply relax beside the creek as the canyon walls glow at sunset. This is nature at its most authentic — a place where adventure meets peace, and where every visit becomes a story worth telling.

100%
(19)
RV/tent site · Sleeps 10 · Vehicles under 30 ft
**Hidden Meadow** Located at the very end of the road beyond the old Miner Cabin and farm field, this campsite offers a truly secluded retreat. To reach it, you’ll cross the creek and step into a peaceful meadow surrounded by towering trees and steep canyon walls, with the sound of running water echoing through the canyon. This spot is the closest access point to my favorite swimming hole. As you walk upstream, the scenery feels like something out of a fairy tale—after just a few hundred yards, you’ll discover a breathtaking swimming area unlike anywhere else in Arizona. Beyond this spot, the creek flows over smooth bedrock, forming a series of small, crystal-clear pools. Keep an eye on the cliffs above—you might spot the golden eagles that nest and hunt along the canyon walls.

#6 Ash Creek Canyon- Redwood Meadow

RV/tent site · Sleeps 6 · Vehicles under 30 ft
Site #6 is a meadow down stream from the company store. It is between an old stack stone foundation ruin and a dry pond. There are several mature redwood trees growing there. I'm not sure if there are any other redwoods growing in Arizona. There is a nice walking path running along the creek here.

Ash Creek Canyon Farmhouse Cabin

Vacation rental · Sleeps 10 · 3 bedrooms · 5 beds · 2 toilets
Step into Arizona’s past at the Ash Creek Cabin Farmhouse— once the home of the mine’s superintendent and positioned beside the canyon’s original farm and orchard. This beautifully preserved 3‑bedroom retreat sits deep within a private canyon that remained closed to the public for nearly 80 years, offering guests a rare chance to experience history, nature, and solitude all in one place. During the mining era, this cabin served as the heart of the operation — a place where the superintendent lived, oversaw the bustling town of Chrysotile, and tended the canyon’s orchard and farm that supplied fresh food to workers. Today, the orchard trees still stand as quiet witnesses to the past, and the cabin welcomes modern explorers seeking comfort, adventure, and a connection to Arizona’s forgotten history. Wake up to canyon walls glowing in the morning light, wander through abandoned mining buildings, and follow trails to waterfalls, swimming holes, and wildlife‑rich habitats recognized as some of the most biologically diverse in the state. After a day of exploring, return to your private basecamp to relax in the year‑round sunroom, gather around the firepit, or enjoy a meal in the fully stocked kitchen. Inside, you’ll find everything you need for a comfortable stay: spacious bedrooms with plush queen beds, clean and stocked bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, high‑speed Starlink Wi‑Fi, and cozy spaces perfect for families or groups. Outside, the canyon offers total privacy, endless views, and a sense of discovery you won’t find anywhere else. Whether you’re here for adventure, history, or a peaceful escape, the Ash Creek Cabin Farmhouse delivers a one‑of‑a‑kind experience in a place few people have ever seen.
