A few notes on the property:
Most people have never used an EcoToilet and don’t realize it takes some work. If you have children, you will very likely have to do this part for them.
We keep the lounge area as clean as possible but at the end of the day it is an outdoor kitchen! Kitchenwares will have a layer of dust even if cleaned the day prior, so please give everything a rinse before you using!
You may read about mosquitoes in some of our past reviews, but I am happy to share that we now have a monthly mosquito service in place that has mitigated that issue :)

It serves as our primary residence and also residence for seasonal workers&traveling artists when they come here. Every year we have the opportunity to employ about a dozen people to work with us during the tourist season, from March-October. We are less than 15 minutes from Interstate 10 and from Interstate 65.
I offer a half-dozen campsites, all either on a relatively level paved driveway or grass. Power (20 amp and 30 amp) and water is available. We have two 30 amp campsites, which are first come, first served.
WIFI is available! (please ask for password).
We have a portable toilet (portable-potty) for your use.
This is a Longleaf Pine sanctuary with lots of nature trails.
This is also a hobby farm with livestock (two Donkeys, two Goats and a flock of Chickens). I feed the livestock grain every morning usually between 8 and 9 am, and again hay before dusk. You are always welcome to join me and I'll introduce all of them to you!
My dog, Homer, is our very friendly welcoming ambassador who will enthusiastically great you upon your arrival. I put him up in his kennel each evening around dusk, then lock him in his shed until morning which keeps him from barking during the night.
We also host three AirBnBs, so other guests may be here as well.
Texting via the app is our preferred mode of communication. If you call, please leave a message if I can't answer, and I will call you back.
We are slowly updating the site photos. Use them only to determine your price, for example: A site with 30 amp power and water is $25 per night. A site with 20 amp power and water is $20 per night. A boondocking site (no power) is $15 per night. All sites have access to a porta-potty and water.
Suggested local attraction: Blakeley State Historic Park is four miles away.

This was a beautiful and tranquil spot. Lush green and waterfront area, gracious hosts and the cabin was perfect to relax and take a break from ‘busy life’. Larry and Sheila were more than accommodating. The cabin was perfectly stocked and spotless upon arrival. I enjoyed my time so much, I extended another week! Thanks Larry and Sheila. Dark Hollow is an amazing place! The sites are well maintained and several have phenomenal views. There is plenty of space between sites and plenty of privacy. I stayed in The Ledge site and it was perfect for me. While it rained each day during my stay, it cleared enough fo me to check out the trail they have on property. It is a fairly rugged trail of switchbacks down into the bottom and it continues across the creek and up the opposite hillside. All in all, despite the rain this was an excellent trip! I have to say that this is one of, if not the best camp here. I highly recommend checking out Dark Hollow!

What a big beautiful piece of land! It's situated behind the last house on a dead end road. The sites are private from one another, each with their own unique natural space. Waaaay better than being crammed in on an established campground or rv park. When you drive back there's an open field with a rolling hill that leads down to the pond. Around and beyond is thick with trees with wide trails and several clearings to pitch a tent, wander and explore. Jimmy is an exceptional host! It's clear to see his good intentions with sharing his property making it comfortable, safe and peaceful for us campers. Thank you!

Great place to stay. Danny gave me a tour of the campground when we arrived and made a few suggestions on things to do. The campground was clean and the amenities all worked very well. The hiking trails were steep but clear and easy to follow. The creek itself was beautiful and the views were great. It was less than 3 feet deep in most of the pools and had multiple small waterfalls along it. Highly recommended

What a wonderful place to relax and unwind! The hosts are thoughtful, helpful, and friendly. The location is beautiful, and the facilities provided near the river RV sites are excellent. We needed a quiet getaway away from the crowds and we got our head in the dark and starry skies while our feet soaked in the cool current of the Blackwater River. If you are in the area, do yourself a favor and stay there a while.

This was a great find. The place was very quiet. Dave greeted me when I got there, really nice guy, and it’s basically a pick your spot when you get there based on whether you’re using electric or not. Dave showed me what areas I could choose from since I didn’t need any amenities. It was a nice flat area in the shade for my campervan. I didn’t hear any noise from anybody else all night or even in the morning. Definitely recommend. I’d go back if I’m ever back in the area. He also has two donkeys, two goats and some chickens down the road a little when you drive in so it was nice to pet some of them.

I loved tent camping on the property! We had the whole place to ourselves one night. The other two nights other people were there but the property is so large you still feel like you’re by yourself. It was beautiful and peaceful. The instructions were clear and helpful. I didn’t have any issues or concerns the entire time we stayed. I will def. camp here again.

Tent camping here is amazing! Right on the river. Can fish right on the bank (caught a few catfish, fried them up and ate them to same day 😋). You can walk a few meters and play safely in the water. River runs a big quicker than expected, but I also camped during a storm with lots of rain. Beautiful scenery! Richard is awesome and communicated well! Would highly recommend, and definitely planning on coming back!

I love Parksland Retreat and will be back! It is a beautiful property- I stayed in the tent site at the top of the road and felt safe as a solo female traveler.
Dustin and the other folks staying there who I met were friendly without crowding me. I showed up on a Friday in time for the hot tub.
The composting toilet is great, there's potable water if you need it, and the shower dome is my favorite. I also had a quick dip in the swimming hole (even though it was cold!). Great weekend. Like I said, I'll be back.
