This site is removed from our primitive camping sites and located just down the road with it's own private entrance and parking. The Great Blue Heron is a refurbished trailer nestled beneath a large bending willow tree, and abutting the Estero San Antonio Waterway (just 10 ft. away from the waters edge). The surrounding space has lots of flat areas for additional tent set up, and direct access for canoes or kayaks. There is plenty of space for picnicking, laying out, lounging in the hammock with a good book, or BBQing up a local seasonal feast.
The trailer interior is large enough to accommodate two adults comfortably, for larger groups of four there is exterior space for 1-2 additional tents. Some of the site amenities include:
- Queen size bed- Bed linens & towels provided- Running water- Outdoor shower- Private compostable toilet - Electric cooktop- Basic cookware- Table settings for two - Under counter refrigerator- Outdoor deck with small seating area- Hammock - Large outdoor grill- Large stainless steel table for outdoor food prep- Outdoor dining table with seating for two- Large flat areas for additional tent set up- Direct access to the river- All day access to our farm-pick up shop
Please keep in mind that this is not a hotel or glamping site. It is a refurbished trailer in a beautiful outdoor location. Think camping with a comfy bed, and more privacy. With that being said, there is not a lock on the door, there can be drafts at times, visits from our insect friends, and sometimes sounds from neighboring farm animals.
Those things considered this is a very relaxing and secluded space perfect for a creative getaway, and close to lots of fun places to explore. Being on the water we invite you to bring your own kayak or canoe and paddle to the ocean down the Estero San Antonio! We are 5 minutes away from the quaint town of tomales, 10 minutes away from Dillon beach, and about 30 minutes away from Bodega Bay Beaches, and 40 minutes from Point Reyes.
We also have a pick-up shop across the road from this site which offers our beef, lamb, pork, chicken, eggs, gelato, and focaccia all made or grown here on site. We will reach out before your arrival for offerings, ordering ,and pickup information.
We try to leave the land better off than we found it and hope that you will share the same respect for the pristine beauty of this place. We will take care of the composting toilet, but ask all guests to pack out their trash and food waste.

Peaceful and quaint farmland camp!
The Great Blue Heron was the perfect little get away! Surrounded by peaceful farmland and must see beaches and towns like Tomales, Bodega Bay, Jenner, and the Russian River! Their fresh eggs were an amazing addition to our camping breakfast!
Pretty but not functional
While the inside of the trailer was aesthetically pleasing, I had an issue with the lack of basic necessities. The trailer also wasn’t as clean as I would have hope for given how much was spent for the listing. Since there’s no service it’s almost impossible to ask the hosts for anything if you have an issue. A printed map of the area would have been nice to have in the listing. Both the toilet paper and soap were low when we arrived so we had to ration for most of the trip. The grill was filthy and looked like it had never been cleaned before. Beware, there’s no door to the bathroom so those smells waft throughout the trailer. Sawdust was provided but it really didn’t do much. The outdoor shower is fully out in the open, so if you’re uncomfortable with full nudity outdoors bring a bathing suit. While I managed to have fun with the people I was with, the overall experience wasn’t what I was expecting.
The perfect camping experience
There are no words to describe how amazing our stay was at the Great Blue Heron. The location is unparalleled…right next to the river, shady trees, cows eating in the pasture, surrounded by blackberry bushes. We camped with our 2 daughters and they absolutely adored the site. We spent most of our time hanging out on the property, but the site is located very close to Tomales, Dillon Beach and Valley Ford. This was very convenient for morning pastries and a beach day. We did a combination of tent camping and sleeping in the trailer. Both were equally enjoyable. The design of the trailer was straight out of a magazine. There was even a little art nook that our daughters adored. The outdoor shower, compost toilet and hammock made the site even more comfortable. The barbecue and indoor stove was beyond adequate for cooking. Definitely order the butcher package, eggs and focaccia. Did we mention goats milk ice cream? That is also a must. We will definitely be back, but next time we are staying longer. Thank you for such a special stay!
Great time at the Blue Heron. Amazing location near the beach and lots of little towns. Such a cute camper with all amenities you need to get away. We also loved the farm fresh eggs and focaccia. Thanks Guido and Emily!
A wild little oasis
Such a lovely renovated trailer tucked away in a small alcove of the property, along a river bank! The road is about 10-15 feet away from the trailer, but there's a hedgerow of blackberry brambles that offers perfect privacy and there's very little traffic that comes through. The trailer and patio area are delightful and really tastefully decorated and have all the necessary basics. The fridge is cold, and there's even a tiny freezer (e.g. to re-freeze your ice packs). I used water right out of the sink to boil water for tea and had no problems (no tummy aches, etc). The Berky unit is perfect (and one of the best products on the market) for water filtration, so yay for that too! The outdoor shower is a blast (ha!) Tip: be ready to navigate the faucet fixture on the shower a bit to get hot water. It's tricky but findable. If you're not used to compost toilets, maybe bring a scent neutralizer (like an all natural citrus spray) to help "air out" the privy. Putting on the airvent unit above the sink area for a few minutes, works too. Bed was my kind of perfect: firm and elevated to be able to see out the trailer windows. Warning: high probability of lingering in bed. And finally, hosts are so kind and deeply committed and knowledgeable about regenerative farming and homesteading, and their passion is contagious, so this is a great way to support them!
I wish I had more time to stay here to paint, draw and just read! The bed is super cozy, a Berkey water filter, everything you need to cook and I ordered bread, eggs, sausage and anise-candied orange gelato. Emily kindly gave me a tour of the farm- incredible work her and her partner Guido are doing for the land. Thank you for my sweet lil stay!
Cozy, welcoming, fun
Great! Loved the tree and the setup, the porch, the art materials, the quiet, the great instructions, the great food from the store, comfy bed, location - 10 mins to beach. Stayed with kids and would return!
