All to yourself
97% of recent Hipcampers say this Hipcamp felt private.
Our homestead is home to our family, chickens, and a livestock guardian dog.
Most of our 12+ acres are wooded and our property backs up to thousands of acres of public forest land owned by Clemson University. A trail connects our backyard to the main network of hiking/mountain biking trails in Clemson Forest. For those familiar with the forest, our property is in the vicinity of Wildcat Technical, Wounded Road, and Chainbreaker trails.
As private and wooded as our property is, we are only 10-15 minutes from downtown Clemson and less than 10 minutes from the small towns of Central and Six Mile. Lakes Hartwell and Keowee are also short drives.
We currently offer a single campsite, which can accommodate several tents or a camper van. Our campsite features a composting toilet outhouse, and water is available from spigots at our house if needed. Though fairly close to our house, the campsite has a very private feel due to being completely surrounded by a hardwood forest.Pitch your tent or park your camper van at our secluded campsite with direct access to the Clemson Experimental Forest trail system. This campsite, accessed by a short, unpaved road, sits within hardwoods overlooking steep forested hillsides and a small woodland pond. Several tent spots are available including a large, level tent pad. There is a pull-in spot for a camper van. The site includes a large stone fire pit, a picnic table, a charcoal grill, and a composting toilet. You may gather fallen wood for fires or split firewood is available for purchase if needed. City water is available from a spigot at our house, or you may filter water from the spring-fed pond below the campsite.
This site gives you direct, private access to 40 miles of biking, hiking, and equestrian trails in the Clemson Experimental Forest. Don’t hesitate to reach out to your hosts (avid mountain bikers and trail runners themselves) if you want tips on the best trails for your adventure. Don’t miss the opportunity to see Wildcat Falls, only a 1.5-mile hike away.
You may also make yourself at home and explore our own 12+ acre homestead, including wooded trails, bamboo grove, creek, small orchard, garden, and chickens. Homestead products available for purchase include firewood, eggs, and produce seasonally.
Please note that this campsite is on a small family homestead that includes chickens and a large, gentle livestock guardian dog. Ursa guards our free-range flock and our free-range kids from predators of all kinds. She loves our campers and will likely hang out with you at the campsite, particularly if you have young kids, whom she adores. She is inside to sleep from about 9:30 pm-7 am to provide for a quieter night, but otherwise, she has free range of the property.
The town of Clemson and Clemson University are a 10-minute drive, giving easy access to shopping, restaurants, and sporting events (Go Tigers!). The small towns of Central and Six Mile are also both less than 10 minutes away. If lakes are your thing, access points to Lakes Hartwell and Keowee are minutes away. For a quieter experience, drive a bit further to Lake Jocassee.

Visitors appreciate the cleanliness of the facilities, including the well-maintained outhouse, and the abundance of hiking trails close by. Friendly hosts and their charming farm dog, Ursa, add a touch of warmth and hospitality to the stay. However, one review noted concerns about bear sightings, which affected their comfort level, highlighting the importance of being informed about local wildlife.

This was the best spot to camp! Feels like home, very nice setup. Nice short drive to Clemson campus if you need a place to camp while visiting family. Was very impressed by the cleanliness and condition of the outhouse.

Nice spot to set up camp for a couple days! Close proximity to towns if you need/want anything. Lots of lake accesses nearby. Great hosts and loved have Ursa come visit every morning. Thank you!

I want to start this saying the host is super nice and friendly even after I accidentally canceled our first booking and had to rebook.
However, the host let us know on the day of our arrival that there had been recent bear sightings on a nearby trail cam. With our 5‑year‑old daughter, we didn’t feel comfortable camping under those conditions, so we chose not to go. We weren’t offered a refund, which was disappointing given that the new information directly impacted our ability to stay. I understand the policy, but hoped for more consideration around safety.

Beautiful, safe, endless adventure

We will be returning ASAP!
My Daughter and I stopped here very quickly, just to sleep between adventures but we plan to return to access to amazing forest and trails. We were greeted by an owl upon arrival and the chanterelles wished us a goodbye the next morning! Perfect spot close to lake Keowee and many many other fun nature to explore.

phenomenal last minute stay!

had a great experience camping on hudson’s land! my friend and i had our original stay about an hour away unfortunately fall through LATE at night and the host was more than accommodating despite us arriving past midnight and only booking the stay about two hours prior. he even fought the wasps out of the outhouse for us :) the campsite is great and the forest behind it is lovely— would absolutely return. 10/10 + bonus points for ursa, the adorable fluffy farm dog!

Fun times!
Tent
We loved camping here! Hiked the trail to wild cat falls which was perfect. Strenuous enough to feel like you got a workout in but easy enough for a 6 year old! The site was private, super woodsy, free wood and plenty to source from around the site. The composting toilet was clean and super cute haha
My only issue was the amount of leaves around, which is really a non-issue. I’d blow all the leaves off the site before visitors, but other than that it was a GREAT spot! *A bonus was the owners kids occupying my kid all weekend and being the sweetest little guys ever! We’ll be back just to play again :) Thanks for a great time!

The camp was large and very private. The tent site had room for a large tent. The outhouse was clean and very usable. There is. access to the trails directly from the camp. The surrounding background noise is very low, but if you are sensitive, a battery operated fan would probably cover the sound.(I always wonder about the noise level).
This is one of the best campsites ever.

Just what I needed
16 ft car
I had a wonderful 2 days, very restful, exactly what I needed. Their dog was curious but not terribly interested, the rooster crowed, as roosters do. The view was terrific. Read the other reviews - the site is on an incline, but we (husband and I) went prepared and managed to level our popup tent. I will go back.

Beautiful area with amazing hosts!
Tent · Group trip
It was awesome!! We hiked the trail and it was stunning. We cooked on the grill. We made some s’mores and took a break from everyday life. Their pup came by to play with us for a little bit but boy was it a relaxing time to have some firewood stacked up for us when we got there and a grill for us to cook on. They were gracious host, that allowed us to have a nice slice of scenery, serenity, and relaxation for 24 hour in the woods. You are close to their house but you don’t really notice it. I had 8 people including myself in the group and there was room for all of us. Great spot for hammocks as well as tents. So many cool little trails in the woods you can follow for nice nature walks. Overall 5/5. Great experience and great hospitality from Hudson and his family!! Will be recommending this location!

Very easy to get to. You are somewhat close to the family household, but by no means did I find it too close for comfort.
There's a great little walking path past summer pond on the property and a connecting trail to the Clemson Experimental Forest.
We felt very comfortable and relaxed there.

15 ft campervan
Very cool, secluded camp spot in the forest. Communication and instructions from the host were great, would highly recommend. Even had a short visit from the big, fluffy white dog, was friendly, sniffed around for five minutes then mosied back to the house. If you’re in a 4Runner, truck or campervan make sure you have a way to level out your rig. Thanks!

Great little secluded camp spot. Went solo for a night because of some construction near my apartment that made it inaccessible; and just one night was great. They have a really cute outside dog named Ursa who loves some head rubs if she visits you :)

Great site! My boyfriend and I wanted to test out our new tent, and this site was lovely. Directions were clear and easy to follow to reach the site. Picnic table was perfect for making our meals. The firepit was great, and the wood we purchased from them was already at the campsite waiting for us. Hosts checked in shortly after we got there to let us know we could reach out if we needed anything. Ursa stopped by a few times as well, super sweet dog! The trails nearby are lovely as well, and we had a great time checking them out. There seems to be a ton of options whether you're
looking for something shorter or longer - we were only there for one night so couldn't check out too much, but there seemed to be plenty if you're there for a longer stay. Definitely a nice getaway!
