It is also home to the Belle River Post office. Please let us know if you need to arrive after 8pm. Please see parking instructions as there is no turn around in the main driveway. Also - the island has mosquitos so please bring bug spray. WIFI is available at the store. Please no generators from 10pm-8am (some exceptions may apply). To find us Google maps sometimes does not like wood Islands as our city so please use Belle River. About 50m just west of our main entrance to the farm and store, you will see a farm road that is marked with "1167 FARM" address sign. Please use that road to come in and just after the little wooded section it will open up and you will see a picnic table to your right. You can park in there. If you need help with anything, just call my cell phone 902-326-1015 Please note that there could be another camper if booked, so please park accordingly. Store is located in the small white barn next to the white house. The black building nearest the camp area is my parents house - not the store, so plesae do not walk in there. ;) lol **Google road and satellite photos are very old

You can bring your tent, RV, van or camper and choose from 4 fantastic sites. 1-30 amp service, 2 roadside non-serviced as well as one privative forested site and 3 tent sites. All sites are equipped with a fire pit and access to our outhouse restroom. Wood is available for purchase if you didn’t bring your own! We are currently fencing in the entire property to make it a dog/cat and livestock safe area so pets can enjoy a safer experience . This will be done in stages so hang tight with us until this is completed. You can also explore New Brunswick with a drive on Acadian Coastal Drive ·Appalachian Range Route · Fundy Coastal Drive · Miramichi River Route or Fundy Coastal Drive Stop by and visit Murray Corner Provincial park for a swim and watch the tide roll out. Looking to see multiple provinces?? We are in the perfect spot to see all of what the East coast has to offer. View PEI’s spectacular Confederation Bridge from the shoreline and take a drive to PEI which is only minutes from us. Mainland Nova Scotia is less than a 30 minute drive and if your adventurous and want to drive the Cabot Trail then you can reach Cape Breton Island in under 2 hours! Catch a Ferry to Newfoundland if your heart desires. We had a great two night stay at the Owl's Nest cabin. Helmut answered all of our questions before we left and transported us to the cabin to show us around the cabin and property. Cabin is secluded and off-grid. Our dog was not a fan of the steep stairs to the loft. Don't forget to bring your orange vest and remember to check for ticks. Highly recommend for those looking for a quiet getaway.

We absolutely loved our stay at Owl’s Nest! Helmut treated you like family, sharing his experiences tending the forest and the cabin that he built. If you’re looking for a place to get off-grid, connect with nature, and be able to explore the many trails just outside your door, this is the place! We especially appreciated how the land was private, so that we could let our pup explore without worrying about running into any other dog owners. It was a great to share this cabin and we will certainly be coming back!

Kyla was very helpful when we arrived. The property is very large and there is no one else around. Very private. Great cut grass open site with an amazing view across to NS. Nice hiking trails all around. Definitely a great place to camp.

Ruth's place is amazing. If you want a quiet and private place with the most beautiful view, this is it. I loved it. The outdoor shower is amazing (and big enough for two), plus the screened in porch so no bugs! Lots of bunnies, sea gulls, little bitty squirrels with attitude that'll make you laugh.

We would have preferred a spot that was easier to maneuver BUT it was exactly as the pictures showed. We have 2 beagles and we worried that other campers might not be as fond of their songs as we are. But by quiet time (11pm) they were settled in. The ONLY unfortunate part of our stay was the large group of young people who didn't start drinking until after 11. At 230, my wife screamed, "Go to bed!" One of them yelled, "Sorry." But it still went on until after 3. They got our dogs and at least one other barking. Except for that one group, the campground was quiet after 11, and earlier, i dont think we hear a single loud voice. If there were dogs besides ours and the one we were travelling with, we never heard them. Better control of the 11pm quiet time is the only suggestion I have. Paula was a wonderful host and the campground is beautiful. Coyotes were in full song just as we were going to bed. The bathroom facilities were probably the nicest and cleanest that we've ever seen at a campground.

Magical. Quiet. Private. Beautiful. I totally enjoyed my getaway to Ruth's "Easy Street" hipcamp. Right on the water and away from the world, it was exactly the getaway location I'd hoped for, so I even stayed an extra day. The outdoor shower is fantastic. The endless changing beauty from sunrise to sunset will amaze you. I plan to return next year.

Ruth welcomed me for my weekend stay as her very first Hipcamp guest, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. The property sits just steps from the water and a nearby beach, and it’s well set up with a full kitchen (complete with a pizza oven!). She provided much-needed coffee and great conversation, which made the stay feel extra warm and personal. I even got to use the pizza oven with fresh dough I picked up from a local pizza truck. Ruth was an absolutely wonderful host, and I’d definitely stay here again. All around, an amazing spot.

We stayed there for 2 nights as a base camp for cycling, The area is wonderful. Unfortunately, we did not have much time to enjoy the two very private beaches. It felt strange to pass on somebody land to access the beach. However, we did chat with the owner, she was very nice and had no issues. If we go back to PEI, we will definitely consider to go back to this site.

About

Ardgowan National Historic Site was once the home of Father of Confederation William Henry Pope. Experience the serenity of the restored Victorian grounds, enjoy a family picnic, or just a leisurely stroll. Although the interior of Ardgowan is utilized as modern office space by Parks Canada, the exterior of the building and the grounds have been restored to resemble their original appearance.  All Parks Canada consultations and formal engagement on management plans are suspended until further notice.

When to go

The best time to visit Ardgowan National Historic Site is during the summer months when the weather is warm and the gardens are in full bloom. The site is open year-round, but administration services are available from Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm, excluding statutory holidays.
