Start by watching the fascinating film at the Visitor Center. Then take off on the 15-mile drive to visit the various sites. You'll get a real sense of what it was like to live waiting for a call you hoped would never actually occur. If you're lucky, you may even get a tour led by someone who staffed the missile silos back in the day. You may be surprised (and a little shaken) to learn about the many near-miss mistakes that almost resulted in a launch.

Make reservations in advance if you want to see the launch facility. The tiny site only holds six people at a time. This part of the tour is well worth it.
