Glamping in Sussex

·

Sussex is a historic county in southern England divided into West Sussex and East Sussex today. Notable towns and cities in the region include BrightonEastbourneChichester, and Crawley, all home to incredible Sussex glamping sites. Like much of southern England, Sussex is densely populated, but there are plenty of natural and historic areas. Glampers can enjoy the benefits of glamping spots with good facilities near towns and services, while enjoying a slice of the classic English countryside and coast.

At the upper end of the camping scale is glamping, or glamorous camping, and Sussex has a particularly good range of glamping accommodation catering to those looking to get away and enjoy the pleasures of camping with a few more luxuries thrown in. Even better, London and Brighton escapees can leave work on a Friday night and be settled down at their glamping site within the hour—if the tent has been pitched in advance, so much the better. If you’ve got young kids, glamping is also a gentle introduction to camping life, giving you the chance to test the waters without needing all the gear just yet.

Glamping not only includes pre-pitched tents such as bell tents, yurts, tipis, and safari tents, but now also encompasses gypsy wagons, shepherd’s huts, and vintage caravans. Even more elaborate structures like treehouses, one-of-a-kind cabins, and geodesic domes are additional quirky options. In Sussex, the price and level of luxury varies between sites and the various types of glamping accommodation. Some glamping sites feature just a pre-erected tent to save you the hassle (you’ll perhaps bring your own bedding!), while others come fully furnished, stylishly decorated, and equipped with everything you’ll need for your stay.

We are a small, friendly site on a working farm in the beautiful South Downs National Park. We have shepherds huts, bell tents and a land pod in an old sheep paddock, all with private fire pits. We’re surrounded by footpaths and bridleways that can be explored all day, and 10 minutes drive from the sea. We also have a small grass-pitch campsite that opens in the summer for tents and camper vans.

Furnace Brook Cabins & Camping

England · 19 units · Tents, Glamping
Welcome to Furnace Brook, An adults only, tranquil 60-acre Ecosystem Restoration Community tucked away in the rolling countryside of East Sussex. Here, peace, wildlife, and connection to nature come first. Whether you’re waking up in a handcrafted lakeside cabin or camping beneath the stars, this is a place to slow down, breathe deeply, and rediscover calm. At the heart of the land lies our beautiful lake, surrounded by native trees and wildflowers. Herons, dragonflies, and kingfishers visit often, and misty mornings give way to glowing sunsets reflected on the water. Our cabins blend simple comfort with rustic charm — natural materials and wide windows that open to birdsong. For campers, we have rural private pitches or spacious and communal spaces. It’s quiet here — no loud music, no generators, just the crackle of a fire and the sounds of nature at night. Furnace Brook is part of a working Ecosystem Restoration Community. Every stay supports rewilding and soil regeneration, helping wildlife and woodland return to the landscape. Guests are welcome to wander our trails, learn about the restoration work, or simply enjoy being surrounded by thriving nature. We are currently and adult only campsite, we are a working farm with a large lake and only a small team. We want to ensure everyones saftey and will hopefully change this in the future when our capacity grows. We also brew our own small-batch Furnace Brook Beer, made with local ingredients — the perfect companion for a lakeside sunset or a cosy evening by the fire. If you’re looking for stillness, beauty, and a genuine connection to the natural world, Furnace Brook offers it in abundance. Come to rest, reflect, and experience life at nature’s pace.

Set in an utterly breathtaking ancient landscape, your horizons will be vast! Spacious grass pitches with a small nearby carpark and wheelbarrows for transport to keep the camping meadow like a meadow.. and then the Skyline Cabin which has the perfect blend of luxury with back to basics.. The campsite supports the 1000-year-old Chantry Farm in the South Downs National Park on Wolstonbury Hill with 3 listed Bronze Age earthworks. There are some lovely local pubs, the Plough has a great range of food and is a short walk. Ditchling is nearby with real history (see Anne of Cleves house) and some super talented Artist Open Houses in Sept. Brighton and the beach is a short drive or cycle away. The bus service is fine and now includes Sundays so enjoy the city with its quirky independent shops if that's your thing. There's a perfect circular 45 min walk - see our map plus a Zen washing experience guide - welcome to freshly laundered flannels and piping hot water Preservation of this precious chalk grassland with its outrageously abundant summer meadow flowers is a priority for us. See the orchids in July.. Welcome guests who share that appreciation. We also care about food security and planted a top fruit orchard with walnuts and cobnuts too! Nature spontaneously provides blackberries, sloes.. which are shared. The Barn Owl have their own boxes (although they still enjoy the big barn) and skylarks sing high above the tussocky terrain. Come join them! Even if your singing isn't so good.

Simple camping and comfortable glamping amongst organic fruit trees, wild flowers and woodland, bordering an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with some of the darkest night skies in Europe. In the beautiful High Weald of Kent, Tash and Nick have been running May Tree Orchard's low-impact, nature-friendly, seasonal campsite, Plum Camping, for the last 5 years. The Soil Association certified organic land is full of wild flowers and surrounded by woodland and other orchards. Electricity and hot water for showers and washing up is solar generated. So you can charge your phone if necessary, but we'd recommend stargazing and enjoying the quiet warmth of friends and family around an evening fire instead. Bring your own tent, stay in the delightful hand-made shepherd’s hut or stylish caravan, or hire the whole May Tree Orchard space. Numbers are kept low here so that there is always plenty of room for everyone, as well as peace and quiet. The campsite is an hour and a half drive from London and a 20 min walk to the sleepy and pretty village of Goudhurst, with pubs selling great food and two local shops for self-catering. There are also two excellent farm shops within walking distance. Close to May Tree Orchard, there are walks via Sissinghurst, Scotney and Bodiam Castle, and water activities on the River Rother and at Bewl Water. Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest is a ten-minute drive from the campsite and the coast around Hastings and Rye is just over 30 minutes. An amazing independent food business, Growing Communities, sells pears, apples and plums grown at the orchard in their box scheme serving North and South London, and you can also buy them from the Pear Necessities stall at Stoke Newington Farmers Market. Delicious apple juice and tasty chutney made from the organic apples grown in the orchard are available to purchase on site, as well as plum preserve and orchard plums.

Sussex camping guide

Where to go

South Downs National Park

A stunning feature of the southern English coast is the white chalk cliffs that drop abruptly into the English Channel. They stretch from Hampshire in the west to Beachy Head in East Sussex, and part of the area sits within the South Downs National Park. The park also encompasses rolling hills, woodland, and river valleys, and is an ideal place for glampers, who will find something to suit them in this part of Sussex.

Pulborough Brooks

On the edge of the South Downs, in the Arun Valley of West Sussex, Pulborough Brooks is an RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) site, so is a must-visit for bird enthusiasts. There’s an entry fee to enter the reserve but visitors have the chance of spotting nightingales, barn owls, Peregrine falcons, and wigeon ducks, among other birds. There is no camping in the reserve, but several glampsites dot the nearby countryside and on area farms.

Chichester Harbour AONB

The West Sussex city of Chichester is set on a natural harbour that has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Tidal inlets, saltmarsh, and mudflats lie along the undeveloped coastline and provide a home to tens of thousands of birds. It’s a popular place to go boating and visitors can walk, cycle, or take boat tours of Chichester Harbour. Glamping can be found in the AONB, around its edge, and near Chichester city.

High Weald AONB

In the far northeastern edge of East Sussex and crossing the borders of Kent and Surrey, High Weald AONB is a naturally and culturally important landscape. Wooded, rolling hills are dotted with limestone outcrops, farmsteads, and ancient roads. Glampers can look out for rural yurts, canvas tents, and tiny houses, both in Sussex and in the neighbouring counties of Kent and Surrey, which make good bases for hiking.
