Both Susan and Tony were amazing hosts. They were always quick to answer any questions and were incredibly kind! We did end up booking a tour with them of their place which was truly spectacular and original. Me and my parter have already discussed when we will return next. We will be forever thinking about our conversations with them both sharing our love for the environment and dogs:) Looking forward to our next visit!

Susan was an excellent host. When we first showed up we were a little lost and she guided us right to our campsite. We were camping on Thanksgiving and she invited us into her home and gave us a slice of homemade pumpkin pie (it was amazing). We left in a hurry but we would definitely go back again.

I had a great stay, and it really is a private and peaceful escape! The bed was super comfy, and the big windows look out onto Katie’s beautiful garden. The kitchen is well-equipped with all kinds of gadgets: an Instant Pot, air fryer, toaster oven, hot plate, microwave, coffee maker, and kettle 😄. The electric fireplace adds a cozy vibe when you’re relaxing on the couch at night. It was lovely meeting Katie and her absolutely adorable toy poodle, Rico. The suite is a perfect base for exploring the area, and I would definitely stay here again!

Weekend Trip to Portal Retreat

We had a very cosy stay at the Portal retreat with our pooch. It was pretty rainy but that made the stay even more cosy. The bed was really comfortable , and it’s such a close walk to Sproat lake. We enjoyed swimming and paddling , very peaceful. We hope to be back again soon :)

Weekend Trip to Field Sites & Secluded Tent Sites

We loved tent camping on Paul's property, we drove around and looked at every site and ended up picking site 8 for it's privacy and cute little pond area, though we would have been ecstatic with any of the sites as they were all private and tidy. Boyd and Ace (resident campers we ran into) were also very kind and Ace was fun to pet! (He's a dog haha) the ocean was walking distance away which was also very nice. Paul even offered to deliver firewood to us and build us a cozy campfire! Would definitely recommend staying here if you're looking for a secluded, private, clean place to camp. We'll definitely be back next year!

Jamie’s place is beautiful and Jamie a great host. We had a wonderful time there.

After this pic was taken, we added a 10x10 canopy (with walls), for sleeping, or getting some shade. Also, there is additional covered kitchen space. Space for all your sporting equipment, and if you want to bring 2 more people, you can pitch your tent on the deck. Let me know about additional occupants thanks!

We loved the open-air experience of our glamping tent, located near a beautiful stretch of beach near Oyster River. We walked our dog along the community trail every morning, and we spent many evenings on the beach. The tent ambiance is cozy, with a cushy bed, armchairs, and even braided rugs on the floor. The "kitchen" is very basic but supplied all we needed.

This was a lovely camp spot which was very quiet and peaceful beneath the trees. There were hammocks and tables available to use. It was also a short walk to the coast. We had it to ourselves for the one night, as we travelled in mid-September

3 bed Cabin built on a bluff among the maples. Cabin includes 3 double beds. One is a private room and two up in the loft. Boat access only! Sonora island does not have a ferry. We are currently only accepting booking from folks who have access to a private boat. Once on the island it is a 3-4km walk down the main road (which is usually muddy if there was recent rain) to the cabin. No service and no wifi. Make sure you arrange your pick up before being dropped off. Guests need to be fit to hike up to the cabin. This is a unique fully remote and off grid escape that is not for everyone! Please reach out if you have any questions! Pack in your own bedding/ sleeping bags. 5 minute walk to our private gravel beach over looking the ‘Hole in the Wall’ rapids. Our water reservoir that collects from a near by creek, feeds the house. Boiling before drinking advised. Also included in the cabin is two wood stoves, Propane stove for cooking, hot water on demand and solar power make this get away completely off the grid.

If you are bringing a fur baby, please let us know. It must be on a leash at all times. Please bring your fur baby's favorite blanket or bed to sleep on. We can also provide a comfy hound bed in the room at your request. We kindly ask that you keep your fur baby off the furniture and bed, and that you please not leave your pet unattended. The Portal has no internet and reception is spotty. There is one outlet for charging, etc. Parking is on-site. Local food options include the "The Fish & Duck Pub" which is just a short walk away. The property is located at Salmon Point between Campbell River and Comox/Courtenay, BC. Saltwater and beach fishing, kayaking, boating, golfing, and hiking are just minutes away. There is a resort and marina across the road and an Italian kitchen restaurant . Shelter Point Distillery property is adjacent to the property. The trail goes along the ocean, through old-growth forests and along the river ending at a grocery, liquor store, coffee and pizza place, medical clinic and a small pharmacy. The property does have an outhouse, electrical plug-in option at house and water hose close to house. This place is best suited for self-contained campers who can park in the open field or under fir trees near to the house. Tents, smaller travel trailers and camper vans can be accommodated.
