It was sold to a man who started renovations for a summer house but ended up listing it for sale. I purchased it and completely renovated the 100-year-old house. The property is a 7-acre peninsula in Pope's Harbour, located in the heart of the 100 Wild Islands Protected Area along Nova Scotia's eastern shore.
My home is on the property but located far enough away from the sites to allow for plenty of privacy.
It is a kayaker's paradise. Dozens of islands, many with beaches and campsites, can be reached with very little effort from the property.
The property features private oceanfront campsites, a boat launch, a small hiking trail around the perimeter, secure multi-day parking for guests who wish to camp on the islands, and free local advice on where to find the hidden gems throughout the archipelago.
Just 15 minutes away, Taylor Head Provincial Park offers two beautiful beaches and excellent hiking trails.
The nearby town of Sheet Harbour is also worth a visit, with a great pub, a microbrewery, and other local amenities.
Lobster season is from mid April to mid June. Many local vendors in the area should you wish to enjoy freshly caught lobster.

"Big Blue" sits atop a lawn covered hill on the shore of the Cobequid Bay. A grove of fir and pine trees offer a sense of woodland solitude and fairies. The energy is magical.
You can enjoy a front row seat or amble down over the lawn to sit on the end of the public wharf to watch the tidal bore squeeze into the mouth of the Shubenacadie River. It won't be long and you can marvel at the force of the water as it turns and begins to pour back toward the Bay of Fundy.
Walk across the dyke to reach the oldest continually operating general store in North America - Frieze and Roy. Beyond the Wharf, a locally stocked craft shop borders us on the easterly side of the lawn. Next to it you will find Dawson Dowel Picnic Park, a playground and basketball court.
On the westerly side of the driveway you there is a marsh area. The remnants of the shipyard where the WD Lawrence was built in the 1800's can be seen poking through the sand on the beach directly in front of the marsh. At low tide you can walk for miles in a westerly direction. Always be Tide Aware!
Across the road from the marsh is the residence of WD Lawrence himself. It is a provincial museum. Directly across from Big Blue is a Ducks Unlimited pond. The sound of the geese and ducks can be heard 24 hours a day! There is a path that circumvents most of the pond. Adjacent to the Lawrence House parking lot there is an observatory where you can linger and watch the shenanigans of the occasional muskrat or possibly a beaver.
The washrooms are accessed through a side door on the verandah of the main house. There are three showers and three toilets. If happen to be missing your "workout" there is a treadmill and exercise bike available to use.
Outdoor fire regulations are strictly adhered to. There is a BBQ available for a small fee.

The boat can sleep 5 guests, but a private raised glamping tent is provided for overflow if required.
Off property you will find: auto race watching (at Riverside raceway), hiking, biking, ocean fishing, and shopping activities. Downtown Antigonish is but a ten minute drive. The famous Highland Games comes in July along with the Lobster Festival in New Glasgow. The Eastern Nova Scotia Exhibition runs from Aug 27-31.
Want to swim at St. FX University swimming pool? Day passes are sold at the university. Of course ocean swimming at one of the 19, nearby, beautiful area beaches is totally free for all, so get wet and splash in the sea!
Sure, you can sit inside and watch one of our many DVD movies, but instead why not : explore nature, take a walk through the woods, talk to your wife, or friend, play with the kids, or throw a ball for your dog? If you want to relax, visit the golf course in town or just chill on the comfy deck. Do you want to ride, your bike on mountain trails, fish, visit a lighthouse or a petting farm? We have these close by too!
Wide-open highways make for smooth, fast, travel to places like New Glasgow, Pictou, The Cabot Trail or the ferry to PEI. (now 1/2 price) All are within an hour's drive.
At night, relax around the fire-pit after a long day of fun. Then have a sleep "extraordinaire” on board! (No waves to worry about with this boat!)

This is one of the original properties for the area. Owned by one lovely family since the 1700's until your current (very lucky) host. The house was the post office from 1861 to 1961. One of the rooms was the hospice for the area... SPOOOOOKY!!!
There is a culvert from the 1700's on the property from where the province moved the highway sometime before the 40's. Neat!
Reggie took over ownership in 2020 and is keeping things as original as possible, but adding his touch, like his battle axe travel trailer, Franny, which makes her home in the driveway. She's worth a visit!
- TENT ADVANCED LEVEL LAKESIDE is by far the most beautiful; however, it is a small area, located on the edge of the property, and I can't be responsible for the neighbours to a certain extent.
Fort Nova is your home for as long as you choose. Let's get campy!
**KEEP IN MIND THAT THERE MAY BE OTHERS STAYING THERE** But there are multiple areas to choose from, including: the lawn, living amongst the pines, a forest clearing, or even lakeside (it's rough back there). You can have complete privacy and feel free to reach out to me at the house if you need anything.
For those with RV's, there is an exterior outlet and a water spigot, but please remember, others might be staying there so we need to play nice and share!
On the property, there is:
- A decent-sized lake (I wish I had a canoe... :( )
- 1700's abandoned bridge
- Lots of foraging (Won't be held liable if ya eat something silly!)
- Rail Trail (runs through the property)

We loved our time at Trevor's hipcamp! We went for one night and ended up staying for 2. He was the best camp host we have ever had! The hospitality we received was so far and above what we ever expected!! The facilities were perfectly clean and the views were phenomenal.

We had a wonderful 3 night stay. Jeffery was a fantastic host. He has created an amazing camp with full camp kitchen, hot shower, flushing rv toilet, lovely fire pit. More than you would expect at a typical hip camp. The view is superb! Really a special spot!!

My friend and I loved the private campsite that Trevor had! It was extremely private and had an amazing view of the ocean, especially during sunset and sunrise. Trevor had absolutely everything we needed set up including fire wood and an accessible bathroom with a shower. Also perfect for bringing dogs!

This is a small, family run rv park, and not what I think of when I look for Hipcamps. There are both rv and tent sites, and many sites are on the water. The tent sites are mostly on the water and have nice privacy. There were 30 rv sites and 20 tent sites. The rv sites have varying degrees of privacy. We were originally booked in site 31 on the water, but decided it was too tight a space for our travel trailer (it is also very very close to site 32) and we moved to site 7, which was larger. Most of the rv sites are not super private, but in general they have nice spacing (but again, not what I think of for a Hipcamp). The people who run it were very friendly and helpful. You can kayak directly from the campground. While I don’t consider this a true Hipcamp, I would return, but would book directly through the campground website to avoid the additional Hipcamp surcharge.

The view is amazing! I loved the outdoor shower, outdoor kitchen and spending time relaxing in the hammock. We kayaked every day and enjoyed seeing the seals. We had a bonfire every night and gazed at all the stars. Jeffrey, Tracey and their kids were so friendly and we really enjoyed their wonderful property.

We only had one night at Lunenburg before handing our RV rental back, so difficult to provide too much feed back. But site was good for us, power, water and sewage dump so we could clean down before it went back. Never used the log burner as it rained most of the evening but it was there to use, along with picnic bench. Recycling and compost facilities available which was good and a small store in the reception. Its location was close to town so we drove the RV in and parked kerbside, opposite the museum. Not sure that would always be possible. We'd definitely use it again.

Ryan’s land is very accessible, and it already has everything you need for glamping, shower, potable water, toilet, and a table. We really enjoyed our stay and just wish we could’ve stayed longer!
Ryan also let us use the firewood for free, which we really appreciated. It was such a nice gesture. Overall, we had a great stay and would definitely come back!

We absolutely loved tent camping at this location near the Blueberry Trail. We enjoyed the total privacy, the screened gazebo with the fire bowl, the hot outdoors shower and beautiful landscape, but what was special were the little paths at the back of the property through the forest!
There is an old fashion radio with four outdoors speaker with CD & cassette player, so bring your favourite music!
At night, the night sky was absolutely stunning with no light pollution. The coyotes can be heard happily yapping away in the distance.
The location was perfect, with the blueberry trail leading to the Atlantic View trail then Heritage trail all the way to Cold Harbour and beyond. Don’t miss the little cafe within walking distance with espresso based coffees!
Our hosts should give seminars on how to make guests feel totally pampered and offering such a well thought out camping site. Thank you!!
