This was one of the original homesteads in the Margarees. There was an old sawmill on site which was used to build the house and barn. It was sold to a man who started renovations for a summer house but ended up listing it for sale. I purchased it and completely renovated the 100-year-old house. Shortly after, my brother and I started an outfitting company with no plan of building a campground, but in 2017 we saw a great opportunity for building something unique. We wanted to keep a backwoods camping feel, but yet create it around a hostel-inspired environment. We launched June 1, 2018 and are in full swing now. Step off the beaten path! Fainne Crann (Celtic Ring of Trees) is a gorgeous, remote 58-acre off-grid destination featuring 25 acres of conserved field and wetland, an apple orchard, and stunning western views—all tucked into the Middle River Wilderness Highlands. Come make this very private and serene property your base camp, surrounded by wild and cultivated beauty. We’re just a 4 km drive up a dirt road from the Cabot Trail, with no nearby neighbors, yet centrally located to explore all the beauty and adventure Cape Breton has to offer—20 minutes from Baddeck and 50 minutes from Inverness. Some locals affectionately call our historic farm “beyond the beyond.” Enjoy a complementary glass of our own farm-pressed apple cider upon arrival! Tent campers can choose their site in mowed areas of the field or apple orchard. Sites are car-accessible. We can currently host up to four groups of campers, with a maximum of 12 campers total at any time. (Coming soon! A glamping option with a 5 m bell tent, queen airbed, and linens.) We provide a hot shower, potable water, outdoor picnic or spindle tables, and an outhouse. Special Feature: Guests also have access to a generous indoor space in the refurbished barn—perfect for inclement weather, shade on a hot day, or evening games. The barn is accessible through the greenhouse and is set up with dining and seating areas plus a selection of games and puzzles. Enjoy a peaceful interlude in the farm’s own Fainne Crann, a Celtic tree circle of massive old maples tied to Cape Breton’s Gaelic history. Or start your morning with a walk along adjacent trails and quiet lanes before heading out to explore the island. If you’re curious about off-grid living, conservation, or agroecology, there’s much to discover here. Nearby (10–15 minutes): Big Spruce Brewery, Dancing Goat Café, Herring Choker Café, Lake O’Law, Margaree River, and access to the Highlands interior and Cape Clear via Hunter Mountain’s Crowdis Mountain Road. Make our 51 acre property your home base while you experience everything the beautiful Annapolis Valley has to offer! We are nestled between two brooks and sheltered by the North Mountain, just outside the quaint village of Lawrencetown. Conveniently located 30 minutes east of Annapolis Royal, and an easy hour's drive west from Wolfville, with many lovely towns to stop in on your drive through the valley. You can be at the Bay of Fundy within 15 minutes. We are a 4 minute drive to the Annapolis Valley Exhibition grounds. With so many beaches, wineries, orchards, restaurants, trails and waterways nearby - you won't run out of things to do! Enjoy your morning coffee while the sun rises over the North Mountain, and if you're lucky a sighting of the deer that frequent the property. After a busy day spent exploring the valley, enjoy gazing up at the milky way (star gazing is incredible here with some of the darkest skies in North America) next to a crackling campfire. Fall asleep to the sounds of our brooks' gentle burbling, and coyotes howling in the distance. Each campsite has it's own firepit and picnic table . There is a shared XL sparkling clean portable toilet with solar lights for night-time access. Walk across our babbling brook to enjoy a rustic, hot shower in the woods. For those of you not looking to venture too far afield, there we have walking trails throughout the property, trout fishing in one of our brooks, and a tiny swimming hole if you'd like to take a dip. For nearby adventures, you'll find a brewery, winery, restaurant and trailhead located less than 5 minutes down the road.

Weekend Trip to Owl's Hollow Eco-Therapy Glamping

Wow the pictures looked good but being there was a whole other kind of beauty. The spot is tranquil and perfect, Karen and Ben have everything you could possibly need! The cabin was nice and cozy at night and the view of the stars is incredible! Definitely already planning a return trip!

We surprised my parents with a stay at Bootsie Back 40 Cabin for their 40th anniversary, and it was absolutely perfect! The hosts went above and beyond with every detail. The cabin itself is so cozy and welcoming, surrounded by stunning fall colors that made the whole experience magical. My parents loved the peace and quiet — they spent their mornings sipping tea while listening to the birds sing. The hosts were wonderfully friendly and even took photos of my parents for me, which was such a thoughtful touch. They also got to visit the farm animals (including two emus!), which they absolutely adored. Thank you for helping me give my parents such a memorable and heartfelt experience. This will be a trip they’ll cherish forever!

Weekend Trip to Bootsie's

Great little spot. The wood stove made it very cozy and we had enough power for the water, lights and coffee in the morning. It was great having a camping experience while not having to take down tents in the morning. Recommend it if you're in the area.

1 night at Porters Peak

My husband and I had a fantastic time at the chalet. Our first night in NV at Porter's land was a thrilling adventure in nature, with the delightful chorus of birds. I even had a refreshing dip in the lake, and we were up before sunrise to witness the stunning sight of the sun rising over the misty lake. It was an exhilarating experience in Porter's land, and we're already counting down the days until our next visit!

Weekend Trip to Ingomar Oceanfront Camping

The site was lovely, right next to the sea with a beautiful view. The tent has everything you need, to cook, a bbq outside and heat plate inside, the gaz is included and there's solar powered lamp in the tent above on the table to cook inside. We just used our own French press to make coffee in the morning but that's about it ! The bed is lovely, there is an extra mattress for a third person. The site very quiet and we slept like babies. We had a very good night !

Our family of four enjoyed the solitude this cabin on a small lake offered for a much needed staycation. We enjoying resting in the hammock and the gentle rhythm the decks rocking chair provided. We brought our own, but there are several fishing rods available and ready to use. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need. Looks like there’s going to be some upcoming renovations to the cabin so we can’t wait to see what’s coming up next at Grumpy Bear Hollow!

I loved my time at the bell tent. The view from the bed facing the screen door is beautiful and listening to the sound of the waves on the shore lulls you to sleep. There are enough amenities to be comfortable but it is rustic enough that you still have the simplicity of camping. A perfect combination for someone my age. The host is friendly and very accommodating. Many lovely beaches and sites to see within close driving distance. I would love to go back sometime!

The Lobster Boat has been one of our highlight of our trip around Nova Scotia! David took great care welcoming us in his unique place he built and we had a great time exploring the space. Owl's Hollow is the perfect place for a getaway - Karen and Ben have truly thought about everything! In the Hut there was a book about forest bathing, and their property is truly the epitome of it - peaceful, serene and therapeutic. The beautiful views, steps from access to the lake and the added conveniences (chairs, structures, water, etc.) is unbeatable. Karen was quick to respond, kind and very accommodating. Looking forward to coming back!

If you want a totally awesome camping experience on your road trip around Nova Scotia then you need to stop here for the night. The bell tent is tucked away in the forest and has everything you need to have a great night. There’s a little stove to cook dinner on, a nice fire pit (when there is no fire ban on), and a beautiful view of the ocean, it’s a very windy area but adds to the seaside camping experience. Totally affordable and punches way above its price, very friendly owner who directed us to the camp upon arrival. It would be a mistake to miss this place on your way through.

Weekend Trip to Sally's Brook Wilderness Cabins

Stayed at the Auraura Tent. About 5 minute hike up to the tent. (Keyword UP). The experience was well thought out with care and more comforts then I was expecting. Power in the tent with a fan and a lamp. Open the skylights to view the stars at night. A small wood stove for the cooler months and a BBQ. Did you forget your lighter, flashlight or bug spray? Don't worry, they have you covered. A well stocked and very pleasant kitchen was available. (You bring the food). Some of the off grid elements, like toilets, were a bit different but well documented. The site has lots of trail markers and solar lights to help you get around. In the end, bring you clothes and food, almost everything else you need is on site. It was mostly quiet, though I could hear the regular loading and unloading of the nearby ferry. All in all, a great stay. Would go again.

Very nice camp site with excellent views. 2 kayaks provided for great lake fishing on Tupper Lake (YellowPerch & SmallmouthBass). Would recommend for anyone who likes remote camping, fishing & wildlife incounters.

Beautiful place and location! Had lots of nice amenities but consider bringing a few cozy lamps or string lights because the lights provided are not enough. Also note there is no electricity, which we did not realize. Get there while it’s still light out as it’s a bit confusing depending on which cabin you’re in.
