Murphy’s Camping on the Ocean has been operating on Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore for over 60 years! This makes Murphy’s Camping one of the longest-running tourism operations in Nova Scotia.
Our campground lands began as a coastal fishing settlement where you’ll still find a fisherman’s wharf and the old salt fish tanks from years past when schooners would load this cargo bound for the New England market. Over the years the Murphys have provided services such as schooner supply runs, rum running, moon shining, boat building, blacksmith services, farm produce, and sport fishing.
With the introduction of our brand new geo-domes and cottage, our establishment now offers 10 months of Wild Islands fun! A 1.5 km hiking trail is planned for September 2025, which will make it even easier to enjoy the Wild Islands Coast.

Our amenities also include: fishing rods, comfy beds, fresh drinking-water, refrigerator, 2 bathroom facilities, a hot outdoor shower, walking trails, microwave, and AC. The boat can sleep 5 guests, but a private raised glamping tent is provided for overflow if required.
Off property you will find: auto race watching (at Riverside raceway), hiking, biking, ocean fishing, and shopping activities. Downtown Antigonish is but a ten minute drive. The famous Highland Games comes in July along with the Lobster Festival in New Glasgow. The Eastern Nova Scotia Exhibition runs from Aug 27-31.
Want to swim at St. FX University swimming pool? Day passes are sold at the university. Of course ocean swimming at one of the 19, nearby, beautiful area beaches is totally free for all, so get wet and splash in the sea!
Sure, you can sit inside and watch one of our many DVD movies, but instead why not : explore nature, take a walk through the woods, talk to your wife, or friend, play with the kids, or throw a ball for your dog? If you want to relax, visit the golf course in town or just chill on the comfy deck. Do you want to ride, your bike on mountain trails, fish, visit a lighthouse or a petting farm? We have these close by too!
Wide-open highways make for smooth, fast, travel to places like New Glasgow, Pictou, The Cabot Trail or the ferry to PEI. (now 1/2 price) All are within an hour's drive.

We own 58 acres of forest centered on a very old shale pit near Crescent Beach, Nova Scotia. Our long-term mission is to regenerate the landscape, returning all of the property to a forest in time. We hope to establish small camping compounds for family, friends and guests who would like to stay with us and enjoy the amazing scenery of Nova Scotia's beautiful South Shore.
Located just below Huey Lake, our property is watered by a stream that flows from the lake, through a series of tiny waterfalls in a gorge, through beautiful pine, maple, and oak forest down to a meandering wetland that drains into the Petite Riviere watershed.
Beavers are active in the area and have already begun the process of returning the old quarry to the wilderness. Their activities have created deep ponds where once there was a pit dug from the land for the shale that is abundant in this area. The beavers dammed and diverted the stream which has created a pond and wetland system at the lower end of the property. If you are very quiet in the early morning you may get to see Castor as he busily swims about his watery home.
Located near some of the most beautiful features of Lunenburg County, our property is a 5-minute drive from Crescent Beach, Risser's Beach Provincial Park, and Petite Riviere. Opportunities to cycle, hike, swim, canoe, kayak, surf and sail are all around us.

We do not provide any utensils, tableware, cutlery etc.
We provide complimentary wi-fi and free parking onsite at designated space (walking distance to the cabins). We are close to three lakes, Ski Martock, Ontree Adventure park and are in walking distance to gas station, convenience store and NSLC. We are 55 mins to Halifax and 20 minutes to Windsor.

The Dancing Moose Vacation rentals, (formally the Dancing Moose Cafe) is a beautiful 3.5 acre ocean front, (rock) beach accessible property, located right on the Cabot Trail, one of the most scenic routes in the world!
We are located on the east side (sunrise) on the Cabot Trail, about 15 minutes from Ski Cape Smokey, 25 minutes from the entrance of the Cape Breton Highland National Park with over 35 well maintained hikes.
The on site restaurant, The Dancing Moose Cafe, is changing its activity starting this year (2025) and will only be open, serving breakfast for guests that stay on the property. Full a la carte breakfast is available, including our "famoose" Dutch Pannekoek. Breakfast is optional and not included in the rental fee.
There are 4 different kind of vacation rentals on the property,
The Sleeping Moose Cottage (1x), The Zzzz Moose Camping Cabins (3x) The ZzzzMoose 2.0 Camping Cabin (1x) and the Birch Plain Tower 1x).
The Sleeping Moose has a minimum of 2 nights. All other rentals can be booked for 1 night, or more of course.
Except for the Birch Plain Tower al our vacation rentals are pet friendly.

Great little spot in the middle of Cape Breton. There’s a cute little river out in the back of the property and the cabin itself was welcoming and had all the amenities. Sad we didn’t have time to try some of the hen eggs! Would definitely come back if I was heading that way again.
If you’re a bug-phobe, make sure you’re prepared for black and deer flies! We’re fine with insects and it’s to be expected in the middle of the woods but fair warning if you’re not used to them. :)
Our dogs loved it, too. Great spot if you’re travelling with pups.

Weekend Trip to Bootsie's
The perfect mix of camp and glamp with privacy, peace and serenity. This is a great spot for a couple, friends or young family to enjoy the outdoors together. With animals on the farm, trails on the property, location close to Amherst and attentive hosts, you can't get much better than this! Bring some sunscreen, bugspray and smore stuff for the ultimate unwind and relaxing time. This was a beautiful solo and safe getaway if you just want some time to yourself. I will definitely be back if I ever need some time alone to journal and read. Thanks again!

We had such a fantastic stay at this off-grid cabin. The hosts were warm and welcoming, and the cabin was thoughtfully stocked with everything we needed. It was spotless, cozy, and perfectly tucked away in the trees for a peaceful getaway. We loved the firepit, the nearby trails, the open field, and especially the pet emus — such a fun and memorable touch. Highly recommend for anyone looking to unplug and relax in nature! Absolutely loved our stay! The camp had all the basic necessities for off grid, with perfect layout and warm decor. The land and trails were so fun to explore. Snowshoeing and winter bonfire were great - peaceful nature retreat at its best. Dawn and Terry were very much great hosts, with directions and explanations at the start, even lending us a sled for our unrequired heavy packs, as well as letting us know to reach out anytime if anything more needed. No need for that, the cabin already had all we needed for a weekend stay, along with special touches. The games and puzzles were a great addition too! Thanks so much for sharing your piece of paradise!!

We surprised my parents with a stay at Bootsie Back 40 Cabin for their 40th anniversary, and it was absolutely perfect! The hosts went above and beyond with every detail. The cabin itself is so cozy and welcoming, surrounded by stunning fall colors that made the whole experience magical.
My parents loved the peace and quiet — they spent their mornings sipping tea while listening to the birds sing. The hosts were wonderfully friendly and even took photos of my parents for me, which was such a thoughtful touch. They also got to visit the farm animals (including two emus!), which they absolutely adored.
Thank you for helping me give my parents such a memorable and heartfelt experience. This will be a trip they’ll cherish forever!

My husband and I had a fantastic time at the chalet. Our first night in NV at Porter's land was a thrilling adventure in nature, with the delightful chorus of birds. I even had a refreshing dip in the lake, and we were up before sunrise to witness the stunning sight of the sun rising over the misty lake. It was an exhilarating experience in Porter's land, and we're already counting down the days until our next visit!

This is my new favorite hipcamp to stay, 9.9 out of 10 because i couldn't find a toothpick, jokes. I had to leave early the next evening family emergency but by far the most peaceful sleep we both ever had, and remember to put some sandpaper foot slip grip on shower floor or jack it up level David brother, be well captain, could put a stocked trout pond beside her to be cooler, trucker joke, be well my friend, this ment the world to us and my friend more than you think. we will be visiting again forsure 10-4 houndog over and out

Bootsie's was our home for 2 nights During our road trip from Ontario to the Maritimes. It was well equipped and we were able to drive our car right to the cabin. We enjoyed the luxury of some electricity (while it lasted) to make some great coffee that was provided. We really enjoyed hanging out with the Emus and Chickens and taking in the sweeping views at sunset. Loved our stay here!
