Bush camping on 100 acres in the Tinderry Range at about 1400 metres altitude. Seclusion and adventure all within an hour of Canberra and twenty minutes from Michelago and the Monaro highway. Big skies and dark nights for star-gazing are likely; or perhaps you'll be nestled in cloud; or hidden by falling snow. There are numerous tracks with spectacular views around the property for bush walking or mountain bike riding. The tracks are surrounded by sub-alpine flora and fauna (such as wallaby's, wombats, lyrebirds) and nearby in the Tinderry Nature Reserve. Tinderry Range is a rugged range east of the Monaro highway accessed mostly through Michelago or an hour and a half from Braidwood (when dirt roads are reasonable). The range is only around 70km away from the coast, thus enabling a sea mist to often roll over us in the late afternoon. Summer temperatures are a pleasant 6 degrees or so cooler than nearby Canberra. You may choose between a number of options for camping depending on your camping desires and set up. There are numerous tracks around our property or nearby Tinderry Nature Reserve. You may go exploring to find the springs or choose to stick to easy walking tracks that follow the contours. We will provide a map. Tracks are also great for mountain bike riding and exploring the unusual mix of sub-alpine, montane and coastal flora and fauna. There is numerous species of bird life and regular calls from lyre birds. This area has fascinating history with the largest eucalyptus distillery in Australia until the late 1950's and very popular with a number of bushrangers such as the Clarke Brothers who had numerous hideouts. No amenities. BYO camping toilet and leave no trace. Campfires (except on fire ban days or when we advise otherwise) are okay--usually recommended. Normally dry firewood is easy to find, or purchase some from us if you prefer. The exception is the bell tent glamping option,' Tin Can Ridge Glamping' which has a toilet included as well as firewood and shortly its own wood stove! Some campsites are best accessed by 4WD, or on foot. or gain access to the glamping tent with us escorting you. Camp lightly. No hunting. Do nothing illegal. Take all waste with you. Respect the land, the wildlife and people. Keep the peace. Enjoy.

You have a choice of two shipping containers, both furnished with a double bed. As well as two campsites to pitch your own tent, on a flat grassy area near the converted shipping containers. A shared toilet and hot shower is located 80m from the accommodation. You will have access to drinking water if required. Please also note: - Arriving time is strictly between 2pm and no later than 8pm at night . - Checking out time is 12 pm. - The driveway from the highway to the site is a gravel road suitable for 2WD however please drive according to conditions - The site is located near the farm sheds, whilst we will respect your privacy you will be staying on a working farm consequently some movement and noise will not be avoidable between 8am and dark. - You are welcome to try your luck fishing in the dam or if you have a kayak and life jacket you can bring for a paddle, however please be aware that the unfenced dam is a drowning hazard for children. - We provide firewood at an extra cost of $20/bundle - As there is no council bin service available we ask that you take your rubbish with you. - Full telephone signal available for Telstra, however, any other provider is patchy. - Please note that there are farm dogs on the property, and no other pets are allowed.

It has flat areas with plenty of free timber for the designated fire pits. I have tried to create a haven for wildlife including Kangaroos, wombats, echidnas and platypus. I cherish the cleanliness of the river and surrounds and wish to be able to share this special environment with others who care to preserve all it offers. You can explore the property along the tracks, paddle, swim or fish in the river, enjoy the fauna, wildlife and birdlife. Located not far from Braidwood, a town steeped in history, with good shopping, coffee shops and great food. Sloping to flat land amongst the Scribbly Gum trees offering a number of sites and walks through the property. It provides both sun and shade. Access is good for vans of any size along a track through the bushland. Lovely swimming spots in the Mongalowe River, beautiful clear water, and several lovely bushwalks around the property. Once a much larger property, we purchased our 120-acre (50-hectare) in 1984 as a means to live sustainably and raise a family. Living in our shed whilst we prepared the garden, installed watering infrastructure, and built our house, which we finally moved into when our daughter was 6 months old in 1990. Over the ensuing years, we have continued to increase biodiversity on the property and set it up so we can live sustainably, harvesting our own water, electricity, and food. If you're lucky, you could get a hamper of our product when there is sufficient in season. With the increased biodiversity, you will find that in the mornings and evenings, kangaroos and wallabies will visit with the occasional echidna, rabbi,t and hare; and to forget the large array of bird life - that may wake you early in the morning with the songs. This campsite is set on lovely grassy open areas interspersed with gum trees. The sunrise looks spectacular near the dam, when the trees give off a lovely glow. The main paddock has a Geodome, a shared space for relaxing in. With all that space, you can park and set up camp anywhere in the paddock. There is access to drinking water, toilets, and a hot shower. Around the dome is a fire pit, drinking water, and a camp kitchen. The fire pit features an Argentinian BBQ and a plate for cooking. The kitchen has plates, cups, cutlery, and other bits and pieces for you to use. We also allow your pets to stay on-site; this includes horses. If you want exclusive use of the paddocks, refer to Group Bush Retreat.

Weekend Trip to Scribbly Gum secluded bush camping

What a wonderful, restorative escape! Such a top spot by the river. Amazing swimming hole for hot days. Saw platypuses, a wombat and water dragons. Simple, rustic, perfect shack. So well positioned; had everything we needed. Good walking nearby. Looking forward to going back already. Phil was a great host.

We loved the River Shack at Phils! The water had the perfect little swimming and fishing holeright in front of the shack. The resident platypus visited every day which was SO cool. Spent our evenings by the fire outside. The outdoor sink and cooking set up meant we barely had to use our own kit which was super convenient. Thanks Phil I think we'll be back!

The shack is in such a beautiful spot, it felt very private (except for the bird life!). The river is absolutely beautiful to swim in and we were lucky enough to see the platypus swimming about. The shack has a double burner gas cooker and a little camping single burner that can be used outside as well. It was a great place to stay even with a bit of rain, with a cosy fire that kept us warm inside. There’s a bit of wildlife about, no reception and no toilets apart from a bucket in an outhouse so as long as that’s not a problem for you, you will have a wonderful escape from the outside world!!!

3 nights at Shepherds Rest

My friend and I both stayed at Jackie’s farm called the Shepherd. We stayed in what’s called the barn and I have everything to say other than a complaint. This was one of my most memorable experiences and Jackie was a blessed human and that was what stuck out to us. We had amazing sleeps, the mornings were unforgettable, and the sunset with the friendly llama and goats was memory in itself. Everything was super clear and easy directions, not too far from Canberra either. everything was super aesthetic, clean, and well maintained, especially the wooden hut as a bathroom. We will be back Jacqui!!!!

The Campervan at Margot's was the perfect getaway for someone who doesn't have all the gear but still enjoys some time outdoors! The owners were very attentive and welcoming of me and my dog. We went hiking on the property and surrounding towns. Its proximity to Canberra and wineries also make it the perfect little getaway!

1 night at Shepherds Rest

I spent New Year’s Eve in the Barn Room with my dog to escape the fireworks and chaos in my beachside town. It was perfect! The massive paddock was well fenced and mowed and my dog loved running around with Jacqui’s two dogs. Such peace of mind knowing my dog could amuse herself and run free. Jacqui was incredibly helpful and hospitable. The facilities were great and I loved the rustic wooden bathhouse. Great to have wifi access and Telstra signal isn’t great, especially during peak holiday time. The sunset was spectacular and it was incredibly quiet. A beautiful peaceful place.

It has been an absolutely amazing experience. I stayed up all night just gazing at the stars and just felt very safe. And during the day is when I catched some zzz's thanks to the hammock. Everything I needed was there. Anna and Andrew have been very gracious and accomodating, giving me a ride to the camp from their homestead, and back. I will 100% come back.

Love the Shack, the inside and outside of the Shack is clean and tidy. The property is very near the river and my 2 sons enjoyed swimming and fishing in the river. The Shack have a fireplace inside for cold nights. The environment is very quite and serene. Very relaxing place to camp.

We had a wonderful camping experience here. The farm owners were very friendly and welcoming. The tents were cosy, cute, and well set up with everything we needed. It was so convenient—just bring your own food and enjoy a relaxing BBQ. Highly recommended for families and anyone who loves nature.

We loved our stay at in both the barn room and shipping containers. Clean and well equipped kitchen and shared bathroom. Scenic with great views and surrounds. Even with a group of campers in tents sharing the facilities it worked out well. Family friendly.
