During the mid 1800's The Blacksnake District was named with the intension to scare off potential new miners. Mined for gold, copper and silver at the turn of the 19th century, During the late 1800's, Blacksnake township was a fair sized community. In it's heyday it sported a hotel, blacksmith, sawmill, school and even a racetrack. The "Old Victoria" mine shaft still exists on the Mt Nukka property. (Cannot go down due to safety reasons). The owners of the property (Cyndi and Peter) bought in 1986 and have built their home from the local stone and timber. Cyndi and Peter are both current Blue Card Holders.Mountain range hilltop plateau. A quiet natural bush camp with multiple near flat areas to choose from. Once you book, the whole hilltop is yours for as long as you want. None of the other sites will be available unless you wish to have a larger group, give Pete a call. Glimpses through the gum trees of long views down through the Widgee valley. The district has some crystal clear swimming holes (seasonal), mountain lookouts and fun 4WD treks. Very close to Wratterns National Park. Also close to "The Chimneys", "Kinbombi Falls", Goomeri bakery and many miles of quiet bush tracks and rural countryside. Bring your horses (and temp fencing) for direct access to the "National Horse Trial" which runs through the property. Many quiet trails to ride. Ask for a mud map from Host. Coming from Gympie way? Come up the back way (4WD only) through Widgee and reduce 35km off the highway (via Kilkivan) trip . Unknown current state of this track. Eg. May be lantana reaching onto track and/or have washout sections. You will need to be quite a competent off roader to take the steep (sometimes rough) hill. Here are the directions , * Head out to Widgee * Turn onto "Upper Widgee Road" going past the showgrounds. *A few K's out you will take "Thornside Road" on the right. * Approx 6-8ks you will a Y-intersection. Take the left fork onto "Upper Thornside Road". * Continue on the main track , up the steep pinches and through a gate'. * Continue to a T-intersection turn left through the 2nd gate and continue up up and up until the last gate. *Continue main track (don't take the track on left) and it starts to get even tighter and overgrownish. Don't worry you are as good as there. You will see an old diesel fuel bowser on your right , just follow the Hip camp website directions from there. If you decide on this "up the back way adventure" please let us know. Peter will keep his phone close by in case you need some assistance.
