At the South end of the Wollombi Valley, Willow's Retreat is a secluded little paradise, full of private walking trails and great for wildlife lovers. With a choice of private campsite, tree tent camping for two in the hills, or our quirky 3 bedroom rammed earth home with all mod cons, there's something for everyone who wants to get back to nature. The native eucalypt forest abounds with birds, wallabies, wombats and sometimes even koalas; a dream for the nature lover or photographer. As are the dark skies - see our photos for some examples of the night sky from our property. If you're looking for an escape from city life, this is the perfect antidote. Situated next to Willow's Leap Equestrian, you may even be able to bring your horse! Whilst we can accept last minute bookings, we're not always within signal. Surrounded by the sounds and smells of Australian eucalypt forest, this private site is an ideal spot for nature lovers who want to get away from it all. No mobile phones or internet here; just immerse yourself in the beautiful countryside! For now, we're limited to tents, but are aiming to expand in the near future to allow campers and trailers. To access our sites, you really need a 4WD, especially if it's been raining (which feels like the last 3 years!). Contact us if you're not sure! Guests will have access to a long drop enclosed toilet (converted portaloo) - we aim to have some toilet roll, but we suggest bringing some of your own, too! Rubbish and recycling facilities are not available (we have no collection out here), and guests must take all waste with them on departure. The local area boasts many aboriginal sites, along with more recent convict/settler milestones. And, all just a short drive from the wineries of the Hunter Valley! To protect out wildlife and stock, pets are sadly not allowed. However, there is the potential to bring your horse to ride at Willow's Leap Equestrian nearby!

A short hike in, but a world away; immerse yourself in the Australian Bush, and marvel at the creatures that pass you by.... *Warning* - this site does require a moderate level of fitness, with a 5 minute walk up hill on rugged terrain to get to it. 4WD required for access to car park. My first experience of using Hipcamp was extremely positive. Staying at this wilderness campsite was a genuinely refreshing escape. The setting is absolutely stunning—surrounded by unspoiled nature, with a real sense of peace and space that’s increasingly hard to find in the world. Waking up each morning to the sound of birdsong filtering through the trees was a highlight in itself—far better than any alarm clock. The location strikes a perfect balance: remote enough to feel like a true retreat, yet still accessible thanks to the clear and well-thought-out directions provided. It made arrival stress-free, even for a first-time visitor. One of the small but much-appreciated touches was the option of a hot shower for a modest extra cost. After a day outdoors, it felt like a real luxury and added to the overall comfort without taking away from the rustic experience. The Lyndel and Phil were warm, welcoming, and clearly take pride in maintaining the site. Their friendliness and attention to detail really enhanced the stay, making everything feel easy and relaxed. Overall, this is an excellent spot for anyone looking to unwind, reconnect with nature, and enjoy a simple but well-considered camping experience. Highly recommended.

On arrival we were greeted warmly by Phil and the horses. We had a 2 years old with us she was really excited to see them. On the camp site also have little wombat, the site was clean and beautiful. Great little getaway not far from Sydney. Easy to access great host thank you again for having us!

Had a great time here camping for my son's 11th birthday. Phil and Lyndel were wonderful hosts. Phil took the time out of his day to show my son a few birds around the property. Made my son's day. Very much appreciated . Highly recommend this accommodation.

I had a fantastic weekend camping with friends. It was a perfect getaway to unwind and forget about the phone. Everything was as described and we were warmly greeted by Phil and Lyndel soon after arriving having already been directed to the campsite. Will be looking to repeat the weekend again soon

Highly recommended! Owners are very nice and helpful and many tracks around the property especially the two lovely going up the ridge lines on each side of the valley.On one side the owners (Phil and Lyndel) have marked the track witch goes past a remote campsite that keeps going. At the campsite there is a tent, BBQ and a table so very light gear you will need to pack. On the other side you can either book a guided walk or follow the game trails but an amazing opportunity to learn about animals that live there on the guided walk

We really enjoyed our time at Willow’s wilderness! Phil and Lyndel are both great hosts, and very accomodating. The property is beautiful, and the camp site we had was great! Even after all the recent rain, the site is elevated up a small hill, so we didn’t have to trudge through the mud. Lots of wombat warrens! The drop toilet is in a really good spot too. We brought a lot of firewood with us, but we’re VERY grateful to Phil and Lyndel for proving more, as it was VERY chilly on the last night particularly (frost on the ground, and vehicles), but it makes it all the more fun! Thanks again to Phil and Lyndel, we hope to be back to visit soon!

This place is amazing! Awesome secluded spot with amazing views across your own little valley. The star gazing was awesome here too. Our kids absolutely loved the place with a couple of awesome little walks around the property, seeing wallaroos, wallabies, cows & the beautiful horses. Drop toilet was clean and the firewood pile was awesome! Phil and Lyndel were amazing hosts stopping for chats, giving the kids a ride on the tractor and giving us a jump start too when the kids left the light on in the car all night. Will definitely return!

Willow's Wilderness was a great spot. Lots of birds, rock wallabies (or small kangaroos), there is a resident wombat who we heard at night and heard koalas. The spot we camped overlooked a valley and got some nice sun each day and was extremely peaceful. If staying when hot bringing some shade would be a good plan. There was also plenty of firewood and a long drop a short walk from camp. There are also plenty of trails about if you like bushwalking. The hosts, Phil & Lyndel, were great in making us feel welcome and provided clear directions and information. The extras on offer are also worth checking out. The mid-stay shower was gold! Couldn't ask for better hosts.

I absolutely love the Glossy Heights Location and both Phil and Lyndel were amazing about showing us where the set up is. Absolutely stunning grounds and beautiful night sky. There were some other people with us and they were super, super quiet and I felt like we had everything all to ourselves. Would 10/10 recommend this beautiful place to visit!

Such a peaceful place :) the campsite is surrounded by beautiful trees, and lush grass. We spent the entire day reading under some shade. I’d suggest bringing solid shade for hotter days - otherwise there is some dappled shade from the trees. The star gazing was incredible. Firepit, and facilities is very thoughtful. We absolutely loved our stay and will be back hopefully :)

Lyndel and Phil were very helpful and friendly to deal with. I was greeted and shown in through the property to the site, equipped with firewood and toilet facilities. Nice grassy, private and protected site at the end of the valley under the stars. No cell reception so nice to switch off! Look forward to visiting again.

We had an amazing time at Willows retreat. It is a little piece of hidden paradise, nestled between the mountains and surrounded by lush green pastures and abundant wild life. To top it off, both Phil and Lyndal are amazing hosts. We received a warm welcome from them and they have definitely maintained this property very well. Everything was just as described and more. And that cow is a proper celebrity 😄❤️ It is a shame that the weekend passed by in a blink 😒 But we would definitely like to be back at Willows retreat.....hopefully soon. It is a gem of a place. Thank you Phil and Lyn for hosting us . 🙌

Willow's Retreat provided the perfect setting for a short getaway as 2 families with young kids. The house has everything we could need and far more while the surroundings were tranquil but with plenty to enjoy. Phil was an excellent host and very accommodating. Highly recommend!

an amazingly private, secure and lovely space. firewood was supplied, heaps of privacy. you're on your own, just one spot. was greeted at the entry, Phil was lovely. easy to find. 20 minutes south of Wollombi. no phone reception at all, so, take a book and enjoy your time!
