Escape to your own private 100-acre property in the Southern Tablelands, with no other camping groups sharing the land during your stay. Set up camp on what was once an airstrip used by local farmers and enjoy the freedom to explore rolling paddocks, native forest and a seasonal creek. Spend your days walking the property, watching for wildlife or simply enjoying the peace and space. In the evening, settle in around the campfire beneath expansive country skies. The property is approximately 10 minutes from historic Taralga, where you can, enjoy a meal at the acclaimed Argyle Inn or Taralga Hotel, and explore the town’s shops and historic buildings. Wombeyan Caves and Taralga Wildlife Park are also within easy reach, making the property an excellent base for a Southern Tablelands weekend. We’re Hannah and Craig, a Canberra-based family who own and are gradually improving the property. We love its privacy, wildlife and beautiful natural surroundings, and we’re pleased to make it available for other couples, families and groups to enjoy. Please note that there are several privately owned sheds and caravans on the property. These are not included in the booking, but you will have exclusive use of the camping area and the property—there will be no other camping groups staying during your visit. Your booking gives you exclusive use of the property, with no other camping groups staying during your visit. This makes the property particularly suitable for couples, families, dog owners and groups seeking privacy and plenty of space. Mobile reception is available across much of the property, allowing you to stay connected when needed while still enjoying a secluded rural setting. Guests are welcome to explore the paddocks and forest, relax beside the seasonal creek, watch for native wildlife and try catching yabbies in the dam. Yabbies are generally most active during the warmer months, although water levels and conditions naturally vary throughout the year. Taralga is approximately 10 minutes away and has a general store, bakery, country pubs and local shops. We recommend purchasing food, drinking water and other essential supplies before arriving. Wombeyan Caves and Taralga Wildlife Park are also within easy driving distance. Several privately owned sheds and caravans are located on the property. These are not included in the booking and must not be entered or used by guests. As this is a rural property, please supervise children around the creek, dam, forest and uneven ground. Loved loved loved this campsite! Such a big space for the doggies to run around & lots of privacy. There are different areas to camp & explore so definitely checkout the entire area! The pit toilet was also clean & didn't smell. It got quite cold at night so make sure to bring extra clothes.

Thanks Hannah for an awesome place to camp, great experience overall. The location was beautiful, with plenty of natural scenery and a peaceful atmosphere that made it perfect for relaxing. I’d definitely recommend this campsite to anyone looking for a calm and enjoyable outdoor stay, and I’d happily return in the future.

We all enjoyed the Old Air Strip! We had the whole place to ourselves. We loved being surrounded by nature. We all brought our own toilets and water supplies. It was a very pleasant and peaceful campground. Hannah was a great host, responds quickly to queries and very helpful providing valuable information about the area.

This was our second visit to this property and it is just as lovely as we remembered. So much space to set up, lovely trails to walk along, a beautiful creek and a big dam for the dogs to swim. Thanks again for opening it up, Hannah.

Just back from our long weekend getaway at the Old Air strip. Beautiful, secluded and lots of space. We setup at the dam. No alarm clocks needed as you wake up to the laugh of Kookaburra's while at night you are entertained by the sound of silence your bushveld tv (camp fire) and a frog choir. Easy to find, peaceful and private.

Good spot if you plan to visit Wombeyan caves, it’s not very long drive from the campground. Campground was very easy to find (followed instructions from the host). Saw many kangaroos that night. Toilet is not in good shape and it would be nice if it had a door (it was lying on the ground next to the toilet for some reason). Wasn’t an issue for us, but still would be better if it’s fixed. We could hear a party from neighbouring property, but luckily they finished not very late at night and it wasn’t very loud, so it wasn’t an issue for us.

Great spot if you really want some peace and quiet. If your arriving after dark I would recommend messaging the host for the satellite map of the property to find which camp area you want to get to. Accidentally drove past the entrance down to the dam site and ended up driving down a trail for 10 minutes to a dead end in the forest, track comes off that trail to what we thought was the dried up "dam" area and settled for that spot overnight. Nice grassy spot in the open, didn't realise until morning and further investigation that we had drove past the actual trail to the dam site (not super visible even in the day if you aren't concentrating, let alone at night). Overall a great hipcamp, easy to book and no hassles with meeting the hosts at check in or before dark etc. Great quiet spot with plenty of firewood and accessibility

Had an awesome stay at The Old Air Strip with 7people and 4 dogs. There was plenty of space to spread out and explore. The dam was a hit, especially on the hot days when the dogs needed a swim. Plenty of firewood around and a nice flat spot to set up. We even had a few kangaroo sightings while wandering around the property - plus a wombat! Hannah was great - super responsive and had some solid tips for things to do nearby.

My wife and I and our 2 dog's loved our 2 night stay at the old air strip, very private and peaceful, the dog's loved the dam and walking track's, plenty of bird wildlife, and only a 10 minute drive into the beautiful town of Taralga, we will definitely stay there again.

We absolutely love it here, so much so we extended our stay so that we didn't have to go home so soon. It was everything we had hoped it would be. Plenty of space for the dogs to run around, a big dam for them to swim in, lots of tracks to explore and a beautiful creek running through the lower half of the property. We will definitely be back! I had a great time during my stay, saw plenty of roo's and birds. I thoroughly enjoyed the privacy and the stars were amazing. It pains me to say it as the time I spent was enjoyable but I felt quite mislead with the promise of lots of exploration on the property and photos of creeks/water to be found. Upon arriving to the property I drove around for about an hour and a half looking for the creek area, all I came upon was very overgrown tracks that I couldn't drive any further down or fence lines. When looking at other reviews there is obviously a creek somewhere but I spent at least 3 hours on foot and in the car looking for it, driving down every track I could see to no avail. I drive a lifted 4wd with mud tyres for reference. A bit of signage would've saved alot of scratched paint, time and fuel. This leaves the only areas to camp 100-200 meters away from the road with a view of tins sheds and caravans which I felt was a bit of a let down. Wombeyan caves are spectacular and the wildlife sanctuary at Taralga is also a great visit. the country out there is stunning. Overall I enjoyed my stay and this review is based off my honest experience I had at the old airstrip.

The site has nice flat grass area to setup camp with simple amenities. The surrounding bush is fun to explore with kids and proximity to Wombeyan and other attractions is great.

We had a great time at The Old Air Strip. A beautiful property with plenty of space. The forest feels untouched and offers a great little bush walk. The stars were spectacular and to have the entire property to ourselves was perfect.
