A lakeside retreat with national forests and Glacier National Park on its doorstep.
Perched on the south shore of Flathead Lake with the snow-capped Mission Mountains on the horizon and surrounded by swathes of National Forest land, Polson has plenty to tempt you outdoors. Time your visit for the summer Cherry Festival to see the cherry-growing region in full bloom and get on the water—you can swim, kayak, sail, and fish around the lake. You can also go white-water rafting along the Flathead River, hit the OHV trails and spot bighorn sheep in Lolo National Forest, or hike, snowshoe, and raft in Flathead National Forest. Montana’s star attraction, Glacier National Park, is just a 1.5-hour drive. Campers have plenty of options around the lake, whether you prefer an RV park with full hookups and plenty of amenities, a quiet Hipcamp by the lakefront, or one of the many National Forest campgrounds, most of which have vault toilets and minimal facilities.
