Recommended activities include floating down the river, canoeing the lake, hiking or climbing in Valhalla Park, soaking in Halfway Hot Springs or indulging in Nelson. This valley has many outdoor activities and events and a very interesting history and culture including Sinixt, Doukhobor, Cannabis and Conscientious Objector. Nelson, Castlegar and Slocan Lake are all a half hour drive away. There are many other special places nearby such as the Goddess Pools and the Emerald Pools. Supplies and services are available nearby including firewood, toiletries, dog day care, massage, bike and canoe rentals, life jackets, rubber dingys and paddles etc. Let us know if you would like a referral to any of these services. There are many guides available for activities in the area including (water sports, climbing, skiing, hiking, artist tours, events, geology, mining, mushrooms, cannabis, garden tours and native history). There is a particularly valued native storyteller here that can also provide a walking tour to a nearby village site with a full scale replica of an aboriginal kekuli (earth house). Please call ahead for recommendations on booking guides or storytellers. You don't need one to get here, but its good to have a 4 wheel drive vehicle for some of the logging roads that are worth visiting. Roof and/or bike racks can also come in handy. We're excited to announce the addition of a rustic, off-grid, one-room log cabin with bunkie, available for your 2-night minimum stay. Nestled in a forested area of our property, the cabin offers unlimited access to sandy riverside beaches, swimming and fishing holes, stunning views, and endless hiking/biking trails. Equipped with limited electricity, the cabin includes basic cooking tools, cutlery, a Coleman cooker, and a charcoal BBQ. Upon request, we provide full linen and pillows. For chilly nights, cozy up by the wood stove. Outside, you'll find a private fire pit with two chairs. The cabin is serviced by a new, clean pit toilet and outdoor shower. In the loft, there's one queen-sized bed and one twin mattress. Forager Hill Farm on Hayward Lake

Our 5 acre forested farm backs onto Hayward Lake and has the Stave River at the front of the property. Our farm has ducks, chickens, rabbits, and a collection of cats. There are wild berry bushes throughout the property and the surrounding forest. Lake access is private (people could hike in or canoe up, but normally we have it to ourselves) and the lake itself is a great spot for wildlife watching (beavers, deer, bats, fish, bears, owls, eagles, osprey etc.). The Stave River in the front of the property offers a more sunny spot for swimming and fishing. The Hayward Reservoir Trail circumnavigates the whole lake and the trail entrance is a 5 minute walk from the cabin. The cabin site includes a picnic table and outhouse. We provide fresh spring water and campfire wood can be supplied ($10 a bundle). The cabin is insulated and can be heated with the wood stove so it is suitable for use all year.

We undertook renovations, lived in it for 6 months and then moved into a yurt on a more accessible section of our property. We now run the cabin as a short term rental, have another small rental next to our house and we are using the yurt for gatherings, retreats and yoga classes!
