We have 20 acres of lush river flats adjoining the pristine Brodribb River in the Goongerah Valley. Due to the pristine, clean water straight off the surrounding mountains and the rich fertile river flats, early settlers used this place as a market garden to supply fruit and vegetables to the local townsfolk. After our purchase in 2000, we turned it into a self-sufficient paradise, always welcoming visitors to come and enjoy the land with us.
Our BYO campsites are near the river where you can reconnect with nature amongst the tall trees. Kanukadale is a working Nature Retreat Sanctuary, so additional to BYO campsites, we also offer our Bell Tents when the retreats are not running.
Here at Kanukadale, you will share the space with very friendly horses, ponies, miniature goats and our donkey. The property is child friendly as the boundary, river and paddocks are well fenced.
You can do as much or as little as you want during your stay. Be sure to check out our awesome animal focussed activities that we offer here. You can find them under Experiences.
You are welcome to bring your own horses and dogs. Dogs must stay on a lead whilst on the property and responsible pet ownership is essential here, as is a respectful attitude towards all the other sentient beings on the property. We do not allow generators here.
There is lots to do in the area with heaps of nature immersion. East Gippsland is one of the most bio-diverse areas on mainland Australia. You can explore rare, Old Growth forest, historic gold mines, climb to the peak of Mt Ellery and walk through the Errinundra Plateau. Mountain bike riding, horseriding, 4wd touring and bushwalking is awesome in this area.
There is a camp kitchen with a communal fridge, microwave, stove and electricity. There is also a composting toilet and hot shower facilities. There is free wifi.

Conveniently located between between South Gippsland and West Gippsland this property offers peace and spectacular views towards Strzlecki and the rolling hills of South Gippsland.
Only twelve minutes from the town of Leongatha and thirty minutes from the beaches of Inverloch. From Inverloch you can drive along the coast road to Cape Patterson, across to the historical mining township of Wonthaggi and then over to Phillip Island. Wilson's Promontory is an easy hour and a half away, or stop at Warratah Bay or Sandy Point and enjoy the beaches and ocean views there.
Closer to home there are many markets to choose from including the quaint Kongwak market tucked away in a quiet, hidden valley. This is a small, intimate market offering great home cooked food and live music.
The attractions of the Latrobe Valley are less than an hour away with nurseries and gardens, galleries and antique shops, there is plenty to see. From March to May 2024 the Gippsland Art Gallery in Sale features the incredible textile art of Annemeika Mein.

I have just returned from spending two peaceful nights tent camping at Milleara Gardens. From the moment I arrived I could see that it would be a great stay. The gardens are kept immaculately and the camping areas are well-signed, neatly mowed and there's plenty of space. The owner, Helen, swung by to say hello a few minutes after I arrived and we had a good chat about the terrible bushfires affecting much of Victoria. Although I came prepared to be fully self-contained, Helen offered the use of a porta-loo for a small additional charge, which I gladly accepted. I highly recommend Milleara Gardens and will definitely be making a return visit in the near future.

It was a road off the beaten track, but instructions on finding the campsite were easy to follow.
The paddock is mostly trees, with ideal camp sites adjacent to the entrance or the far side of the paddock.
There’s an unused shack at the end with tank water (possibly with tannins or rust), the shack door was wide open and the shack is covered with a light dusting. Looks to be unused for quite some time, with a shed/car port, and a caravan parked in the driveway paddock beyond.
We woke to cows mooing and birdsong.
There’s a firepit with cooktop and a wooden picnic table, a trampoline and two tonka tip trucks on site.
Our kids loved this part of the adventure and we’d come back again.

Tony was very prompt and helpful in answering all of my questions, even before the start of our outing. The directions to the property was very clear and Tony was available when we arrived to provide us with the required guidance to get us all set-up. He was also kind enough to provide us with directions to an excellent spot for swimming. The kids also loved the interaction with the horses during feeding time, which Tony invited is to. Loved the property and the overall experience. Would highly recommend and look forward to our next visit.
