Just a half an hour drive from Wangaratta, 45 minutes from Benalla and an hour from Mansfield. Each site offers something a little different whether it is a spacious site for a large group or party or a smaller site for a family weekend away. Our site is accessible for all vehicle types and is dog-friendly as long as pets are well-controlled. Campfires are allowed when restrictions aren’t in place, and firewood and kindling is available for purchase (see Extras). Please keep in mind that the property is a working farm and there will be cars and machinery onsite nearby to some of the sites. Each powered site has only 1 power supply. The Secret Island site does have a swimming spot but not as safe for little ones. The river is ideal for swimming, floating and fishing. Choose either to relax with a book and a glass of wine and do nothing or go and explore the many attractions of the wonderful North East area including the beautiful King Valley, Beechworth, Bright, Yarrawonga and Rutherglen plus many other gorgeous areas that have Art Trails or Silo Art Trails, all of which are 30-60 minutes drive from the property. Billabong Flats Farm sites are very spacious with each section private from other Campers with a fire pit provided at the site plus an abundance of open area for recreation for kids and dogs to run around. The King River Site is an extra large riverside bush campsite that could accommodate a large group of Vans (10 at least). It has a designated fire pit and Campers will need to have own Toilet/Shower amenities and be and leave no trace behind when leaving us. Accessible for most types of vehicles. Dog friendly if well behaved and controlled and won't chase the Cattle. Campfires permitted when restrictions aren't in place, firewood for sale (see Extras). We are close to the region’s attractions including 15mins drive to Brown Brothers Winery in Milawa, many Lookouts and National Parks, Lake William Hovell, Restaurants, Wineries and Distilleries of this special area.

While we endeavour to keep the sites as safe as possible, some hazards include; trees and limbs falling, snakes and thistles. TRACK CONDITION The track to the campsite is bumpy and needs to be driven slowly, we have had a 22ft caravan towed by a 100 series set up here with no troubles. FIREARMS: as per Hipcamps insurance policy, no firearms are to be used on the property. We understand that State Forest attracts hunting, which we are all for, however, we ask you to respect our wishes and keep all firearms legally stored while you are on our property. Please read the whole listing, lots to tell you about us. Campsites 1 is large and can accommodate two vans and 2 - 3 tents (or 14 -16 people). Campsites 2 and 3 are smaller and more suited to one van with 1 - 2 tents (or 4 - 6 people). Ample car parking. Campsites are 110m apart with a light screen of trees in between, no crowds here. Accessed via 3.5km of rough dirt track - not recommended for low vehicles or low towing vans. The track is rough BUT easily driven by all vehicles - just drive slowly. Dogs welcome, firewood is easily gathered by you, and often in piles by your campsite. Campsites are NOT near water. They are near a dry gully, with an **** unfenced dam.**** We have a beautiful swimming hole at the property entrance, in Boggy Creek. Guests are welcome to enjoy the shaded lawn area, BBQ and pot belly fire. The creek is 3kms from the campsites. Near The Hut is the gate to take a walk up to Sugar Loaf (500m return), where you can see amazing grass trees and place a rock on the cairn. Look for the wallabies that live up there. Located in the undulating hills 10minutes from Beechworth and 1km from the rail trail junction at Everton station which you can travel up to Beechworth, Myrtleford/Bright or Wangaratta via bike or foot. We are also 5 minutes off the great alpine road which rolls through the township of Everton which has a general store with Victoria’s best thick shakes, a great little country pub and a service station. In the area you can expect terrific access to local wineries and gourmet restaurants in the region, tourist hotspots like Beechworth, the king valley and Mt Buffalo, Bright and the snow fields are also achievable for a day trip throughout winter and the Ovens river is only a short drive with several popular swimming holes or spots to cast a line in. There are 2 campsites on the property (Ovens and King), both accessible from the main driveway and signed for your direction. 4wd are recommended in the wetter months as access is via a typical paddock track. Both campsites are leave no trace so your own WC facilities are a must with all waste taken away with you. No power available at the sites either. Fires permitted in pits provided during the appropriate periods, and you can either bring your own wood or you can purchase for a small fee. Pets are welcome, i do have a Border Collie (Errol) who is friendly and may say hello. The property is fenced but I wouldn't say "pet proof" and the main gate is left open majority of the time, so please keep an eye on your furry friends. We also have a large mob of kangaroos that visit most evenings and mornings, we don't feed them and they wont bother you either, but they are welcome. Located in the undulating hills 10minutes from Beechworth and 1km from the rail trail junction at Everton station which you can travel up to Beechworth, Myrtleford/Bright or Wangaratta via bike or foot. We are also 5 minutes off the great alpine road which rolls through the township of Everton which has a general store with Victoria’s best thick shakes, a great little country pub and a service station. In the area you can expect terrific access to local wineries and gourmet restaurants in the region, tourist hotspots like Beechworth, the king valley and Mt Buffalo, Bright and the snow fields are also achievable for a day trip throughout winter and the Ovens river is only a short drive with several popular swimming holes or spots to cast a line in. There are 2 campsites on the property (Ovens and King), both accessible from the main driveway and signed for your direction. 4wd are recommended in the wetter months as access is via a typical paddock track. Both campsites are leave no trace so your own WC facilities are a must with all waste taken away with you. No power available at the sites either. Fires permitted in pits provided during the appropriate periods, and you can either bring your own wood or you can purchase for a small fee. Pets are welcome, i do have a Border Collie (Errol) who is friendly and may say hello. The property is fenced but I wouldn't say "pet proof" and the main gate is left open majority of the time, so please keep an eye on your furry friends. We also have a large mob of kangaroos that visit most evenings and mornings, we don't feed them and they wont bother you either, but they are welcome. Amazing place to stay, really private, sheltered with plenty of shade as well as sun. Right next to the river with a lovely big pebble beach area. Picnic table, hot shower and nice clean toilet, hammock, fire pit, some cooking facilities, deck chairs on the beach area, fresh lemons (seasonal). Both myself and my dog loved our stay here, it would also be good for larger groups but I loved having it all to myself.

Exceeded my expectations! Absolutely beautiful spot. I camped for 2 nights with my sons aged 6 and 18 months. Perfect mix of swallow water swimming for the boys and deep water for adults. Caught a couple healthy looking fish as well. Will definitely be booking again. Thank you Sally!

When to go

Bright is lovely at any time of year, especially in Autumn when the leaves turn (the Australian Fall foliage). Winter (June to August) brings freezing temperatures and snow, especially in the national parks and alpine regions of Mount Buffalo.

Know before you go

Reserve ahead in Autumn, especially on weekends, when the hoards arrive to see the Autumnal leaves (fall foliage).
You may need to book while regional events take place. These include: the Mansfield Lantern Festival (June), the Beechworth Harvest Celebration (May), the Rutherglen Winery Walkabout and King Valley Balloon Festival (the Queen's Birthday weekend in June), and the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz and Blues (November).
