The best camping near Shepparton

·

Surrounded by a verdant patchwork of fruit orchards, farmlands, and dairy farms, it’s no surprise that Shepparton is hailed as the “food bowl” of Victoria. Just over two hours from Melbourne and an hour from the NSW border, this agricultural town sits firmly in Australia’s rural heartland. Once you’ve admired the town’s vibrant street art, head into the Goulburn Valley for a food or wine-tasting tour or go boating and kayaking along the Goulburn River and Victoria Park Lake. For campers, Shepparton makes a strategic stopover along the Midland Highway, with plenty of options. Caravan parks, holiday parks, and Hipcamps dot the Greater Shepparton area, many of which have ‌powered sites, dump spots, and amenities such as a camp kitchen and BBQ areas. Alternatively, the camping areas in Lower Goulburn National Park and Lake Eildon National Park have tent and camper trailer sites, or there’s free camping for self-contained motorhomes around Greens Lake.

1. Glenmaye Farm

(113)
50km from Shepparton · 20 sites · Tents, RVs · Balmattum, VIC
Discover the inviting charm of Glenmaye Farm—a family-run haven nestled in the foothills of the Strathbogie Ranges. Set alongside the headwaters of Faithfulls Creek, the property features picturesque rocky outcrops, steep gullies, and stunning waterfalls cascading over ancient rock formations, promising a unique and serene escape. Experience the untamed beauty of the landscape where every corner and rise unveils a new wonder. Enjoy breathtaking panoramic views from the summits and unwind at serene creekside spots, perfect for a leisurely afternoon under the sun. Encounter an abundance of native wildlife—from majestic eagles to charming echidnas—that will captivate your senses. For those seeking a truly immersive nature experience, Glenmaye Farm offers an escape like no other. Here, you can discover stunning scenery and enjoy the solitude of a place that feels entirely your own—far removed from the ordinary caravan park atmosphere. Conveniently located just 15 km off the Hume Freeway near Euroa and only two hours north of Melbourne, our farm provides an easily accessible retreat where nature takes center stage. When we acquired Glenmaye Farm in the early 2000s, it mirrored many properties in the region—overused, overtaken by weeds, and managed with conventional practices that overlooked the delicate balance of this unique landscape. Determined to restore its natural beauty, we transitioned from sheep to cattle farming and embraced regenerative agriculture techniques. While our efforts are still evolving, native trees and grasses are steadily making a comeback, and even the persistent weeds are now contributing to soil health, creating a more resilient ecosystem. We offer a variety of camping options, with plans to expand our facilities in the future. Although our current amenities are modest and may not be ideal for young children, improvements are on the horizon. In addition, firewood is available for purchase, and we often have a surplus of fresh produce to share—just ask. We look forward to welcoming you to our little slice of paradise and sharing the beauty of Glenmaye Farm with you soon.

Ellesmere Park Farm Stay was inspired by our trip following the stock routes of NSW by horse drawn vehicles. Many people commented they would love to do that, which gave us the idea of sharing our amazing journey with others. Our camping area is a lot more comfortable than we endured with a well set up camp kitchen, green lawns and friendly animals all in one area. Our mascot, "Lucky lamb", is an attraction all of her own and who else can say "Kevin bacon" lives here! Our farm stay offers a large grassed camping area with camp kitchen. We are located within easy driving distance of Greens lake and the Waranga basin for fishing, boating and swimming activities and only 15km from Rushworth and the historic Whroo township. Campers are welcome to join us as we feed the animals. Fires and pets allowed (read Listing rules). 19. Ellesmere Park Farm Stay

40km from Shepparton · 10 sites · Tents, RVs · Stanhope, VIC
There is only one toilet and one shower available, it is recommended that campers are self sufficient
