Productive homestead with olive grove, orchard, milking goats, cat, bee hives, vegetable gardens and free roaming chooks. Lots of shady trees, screen plantings, bird life and other small wild animals. Farm produce available. Free stick fire wood available to collect around the farm. Children welcome under your full responsibility. Calm quiet dogs only, must be kept on leash at all times. There are off leash areas nearby. Peaceful unpowered sites within walking distance of train station and Violet Town shops, library, post office, public swimming pool, walking track, and health clinic. The second Saturday of the month has the big Violet Town market. Within 30 km are beautiful Strathbogie ranges with granite country hiking, wildlife and natural swimming pools.

This beautiful property has been developed by David Arnold from what was a grass field with no trees or buildings in 1996. Camping here suits people who appreciate the work and care that has gone into this place, and will respect this property. We have unpowered sites suitable for tents, camper trailers, small caravans and moderate sized vans. These are not suitable for large caravans, or very large vans/motorhomes.  The campground is a beautiful area of stone pine, bunya pine, carob and oak trees. Camping is under shady trees or in full sun, adjacent to neighbouring farm land and spectacular huge gum trees, out of sight of our farm buildings. Sites are 30-130 m from a toilet. Small camp fires at safe times are permitted. NO GENERATORS. QUIET CONVERSATION ONLY AFTER 9PM. (Except celebrating NYE here is ok) Murrnong is at the end of the Violet Town main street, and although the campground is secluded you can also hear some trucks go by, plus the freeway and occasional trains in the distance. The peaceful sites are within walking distance of the train station and Violet Town shops, library, post office, public swimming pool, walking track, and health clinic. If you wish to bring a pet to this area we need to first consider how your pet will fit in at our campground/ farm. We need to know your pet's breed, character, tolerance of being kept on leash while on the farm, and likelihood to bark, snarl or snap at people or other pets. It's fine to book first, then discuss your pet with us, because if your pet is not a good fit here we will give you a full refund. We have unpowered sites suitable for tents, camper trailers, small caravans and moderate sized vans. These are not suitable for large caravans, or large vans/motorhomes. Maximum of 2 pets per site. Great little spot to camp among the trees! David was helpful and flexible, and gave us some good tips on arrival. The ground in the area is quite hard, and for some reason I couldn't find any rocks, so to prospective campers I recommend bringing a hammer. Oddly enough the farm has one of the most well stocked dunny's I've ever seen!

We loved the incredible revegetated and renewed landscape at Myrnong! David made us feel so welcome and at ease. We were so comfy and happy in our tents under the carob trees and loved chatting with David about all kinds of topics, I reckon I’ll be back for a fireside yarn again soon. Thanks so much David, it’s a real piece of paradise you’ve created 🙏🏻🌸💚

Our family and friends had a wonderful stay at David’s farm. We had the area to ourselves; it was private and very well maintained. The compost toilets were very clean and in proximity to our camp. We also enjoyed spending time with the animals; watching the goats being milked and the chickens wandering nearby. We would love to return someday, hopefully when there’s less rain! Thank you for thing us David.

Thank you for the hospitality David. A lovely overnight with a small fire! The drop toilet is one of the more upmarket drops I’ve experienced! Was easy to find and Violet Town has a lovely cafe for coffee in the morning.

Our family had a great weekend at David’s charming farm - he was a great host and made it all easy for us. The camp ground was lovely, just as described. Very much recommended, especially to anyone keen to learn more about permaculture farming.

Really enjoyed my first overnight camp at David's farm. He was very kind and informative, and made sure we had a comfortable stay. Our two dogs had a wonderful time exploring the area (we made sure they did not go near the goats and chickens!)

What a fantastic few days we had in David's heaven! We enjoyed every minute of our time in the farm from the different camp sites that we could chose from, the fire woods that was already arranged by David for us to use right next to the campfire, the interaction we had with the chickens, taking the goat out for grazing, witnessing David milking the goat early in the morning, plucking organic oranges and mandarins from from the property and finally the insightful and interesting conversations we had with David made the whole camping experience wonderful. Thank you David for your wonderful hospitality.

Fantastic host David was very responsive and welcoming. Great experience for the kids feeding and milking the goats. The camp area and toilets were clean. Although it was very busy (Easter weekend) we were well spaced and didn’t feel crowded.

It was a treat to stay on the land, so beautifully and thoughtfully cared for by David and team. I loved hearing the story of how it was turned from a paddock to a thriving space of care and produce. The Bunya Bunya trees were so special.

We loved our stay at the farm. It was tranquil and beautiful with lots of space to let our little ones roam around, they particularly loved collecting acorns to feed the goats! The toilets were clean and it was very rare to have to wait for one, even over the busy Easter long weekend. We will definitely return :)

We had a great spot at the farm for our caravan and camper. David was helpful and lovely, giving his time and clear information when we arrived. The drop toilet was clean with running water to wash hands. Farm is in a convenient location and spacious. Would recommend staying here.

Pros: The campsites were roomy, we had heaps of space to spread out, so even though there were several other groups around us, we weren't squished together and it felt reasonably private. Having a campfire was lovely, there is heaps of collectable wood around the site and David can also provide firewood and a barbecue for a small fee. Close to town, a 10 minute walk or 2 minute drive to coffee, pharmacy and other little shops was handy. Cons: The advertised dam is currently out of commission, which would have been good to know as that was one of the main reasons we booked this place well in advance. We did recieve an email 1 day before to advise of other options due to this, but we would have appreciated knowing this much earlier as we likely would have found somewhere else. I can see from previous reviews the dam has been dry for some time. This also meant no running water, which we had hoped to use for a camp shower, washing up etc. Site fairly close to the road and despite the trees grown to reduce noise, can still hear occasional traffic, as well as the freighters on the v-line track going through the town at night. The compost toilet had a lot of ants which made toilet trips a little perilous. I've used many compost toilets over the years and this was the most basic set up, essentially an open air cubicle with a Hessian sack for the door. All in all, it wasn't what we had hoped for for our camp trip.

We had a great time at David’s property and he was very welcoming and informative. Property was lovely and clean only issue we had was that we were in a hybrid caravan and due to the many trees which were lovely we just had issue with solar panels charging but overall is a great place to stay

We had a great stay over the long weekend. It was handy being walking distance to town and we really enjoyed the markets (on every 2nd Saturday). The swimming holes around Violet Town were worth checking out too

Okay, a bit overpriced

Overall it was okay. We expected better facilities for the price charged so this was disappointing. Not so good things were lack of potable water, lack of privacy on composting toilets (sack material curtain flapped open in the wind), and ANTS EVERYWHERE - could not leave any food outside the car without it being covered in ants. We made this mistake when we left our site and came back to ants all through our food. No sink area to wash dishes. Sites were a good size so we were well spaced out, though as it is one large open area it feels quite exposed. Great to be allowed campfires. It was really hot when we went and we didn't really enjoy the swimming options in the area. Host was friendly and welcoming. Aware that some of my complaints are information that would have been on the listing, however for the amount I was paying I didn't look close enough at the fine print and made some unfortunate assumptions

Our stay at Davis’s farm was exactly as described - peaceful, quiet, and perfect for camping. The place is surrounded by beautiful pine and carob trees, with lovely farm animals, and you can simply enjoy walking around. Davis was a great host, communicated clearly, and showed us around. You need to bring all your essentials, but once you do, it’s a wonderful place to relax and connect with nature. We had a great time and would definitely consider coming back!

We really enjoyed our overnight stay at Murrnong Farm. David was great to chat with about the history of the farm and more specifically we learnt something about bees (we keep bees) and I loved that you could purchase organic olive oil and other produce! Was nice to explore Violet Town on foot for walks in the evening and the morning and we'd love to visit again another time. David was gracious and allowed us to bring our dog.

Absolutely delightful stay. David was very welcoming and told us a lot about the property. The campsite had plenty of shade (which was great for our dog too, who had a great stay). The toilets were also kept in such great condition. We went during a hot weekend and took a daytrip to Gooram Falls, which we would really recommend. David invited us to milk the goats with him one morning, which was such a special experience too.

We had such a great stay at Murrnong! David was an awesome host - checking in to make sure we were all ok. We had a great time milking the beautiful goats and enjoyed exploring the farm. Toilets were clean and town was walkable. We will be back!
