Wirrilaa Rainforest Retreat

Wirrilaa (home of The Busy Bush Turkeys) is located on the banks of the Oxley River just 5 or so minutes from the gorgeous township of Tyalgum and just 15-20 minutes from Murwillumbah in northern NSW. The property is 72 acres, mostly pristine rainforest, with cleared spaces on the lower areas and boasts excellent views of the north face of Mt Warning. At present, there are no amenities, but plans are afoot for toilets, showers and a camp kitchen in the future. There are fire pits at the campsites and firewood, including bags of kindling, is generally available for purchase, but please check in advance. Campers can enjoy bushwalking in the beautiful rainforest (no tracks as yet, so please ensure you are skilled and equipped for off-track walking), swimming, kayaking, fishing and just relaxing in the beautiful setting. There are many walks in National Parks nearby and we are is also not far from the 24 km Northern Rivers Rail Trail. We offer a drop off and pick up service. (Up to 4 people and bikes/trip.) Tyalgum has much to offer, including Devonshire tea and a variety of other food and shops at the iconic Flutterbies, Tyalgum Village Markets (last Saturday of each month), the pub and General Store (with great coffee!) along with other sites. At present, access and campsites are suitable for tents and off-road camper trailers only. 4WD is recommended and necessary if the weather has been wet. We will return to being dog-friendly once we complete our dog fencing. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will keep the property and site descriptions updated.

Digitally unplug, with no phone coverage at the site, but retain peace of mind with phone coverage available within a 15 minute drive if you need to reconnect with the outside world. On your way here, consider visiting Pioneer Village in Laidley and the local lavender farm. IMPORTANT NOTE: There are no amenities at the campsites and bush toileting or burying waste is strictly prohibited. You must being a camping toilet and toilet waste must be disposed of off site at an appropriate facility.

Absolutely beautiful surroundings, beautiful views of the lake and country side. Secret camp site was perfect, grassy, private with loads of space. Great facilities (toilets and hot showers). Easy access to the lake (if you don’t mind walking up and down the hill) Great bank fishing, although we didn’t catch anything. I would recommend a 4x4 in the wet, as the ground/hill got very slippery when driving in and out. Was a very wet weekend, but overall Pointro Campsite was better than expected, and can’t wait to return.

A choice of a couple of secluded sites with either mountain views or a stay beside a beautiful creek. There also some walks to be undertaken by the adventurous camper. This place is amazing! The camp sites are spread out and the property is unbelievably beautiful. Keith and Xandra are amazing hosts, nothing is too much trouble. The toilets and showers are an added bonus to camping off grid. The waterfall strangler site is a beautiful large flat site to stay on. I would highly recommend staying at the Natural Bridge Retreat.

What a beautiful spot and the property. We loved our stay at this property amd set up our tent close to the creek so we could listen to the sound of it in the sleep. Great swimming hole, the toilets and shower are clean. The hosts were lovely, helped us with free wood in his ATV and also got us out of the mud we got oursl car stuck in, lol. Top bloke. Will definitely return for the peace and quiet this place offers. Well laid out signs, grassy area to set up your tent and play.

My wife and I stayed at Wynola Country Cousins property for a weekend in March. The property is beautiful, quiet and relaxing. We enjoyed being near the creek and watching, listening to the wildlife on the property. Bernie is a great host and this is one of the best locations we have stayed at with Hipcamp so far. Our little dog loved being off the lead and pretending he was a farm dog.

Wasn’t too difficult getting the camper up there, felt a little sketchy coming back down after the rain though. Grounded is a not-for-profit community org on the mission to regenerate our sacred connection to country, community and culture. Our creek flat is set up to host guests for camping. It has; - 2WD accessibility, cars, vans, tents all ok. - RVs and camper suitable (no power, water, or disposal systems) - all campsites flat and well-grassed. - communal camp kitchen with pizza oven, water, and gas cookers available - compost toilets (no showers) The pristine waters of Cave Creek flow through the site after falling through the infamous Natural Bridge. Bordering Springbrook National Park there are plenty of hikes and walks nearby to satisfy exploratory vibes. Otherwise, you can just sit back and enjoy the beauty, peace and quiet of this little slice of paradise. We can also offer many optional extras for private group bookings (large tents/marquees, generators, wood-fired hot tub, sauna, guided farm tour, paddock-to-plate produce etc). The income generated from Hipcamp is used to continue to manage, maintain and regenerate the site.

Look for the big red letterbox with the blue flag on the right. This spot is for people that think that they are the only ones left in the world. Once at the top, it's yours to live in peace and quiet. 56 acres of undulating hills covered with native bush land, with 10 cleared sites for you to set up camp. If you like an adventure then this mountain is for you. 2 sites called "Top of the world tent site 1 and tent site 2" are accessible by 4WD only (tent camping is advised) There is a step 19 degree road up to the penthouse summit thats at 1000ft. However if it is dry you can tow a camping trailer but only if you have a winch. If it rains the only way down is backwards tethered to trees via your winch. It's an adventure. Campers are welcome to have a campfire, there is plenty of timber on the ground that you can collect or bring your own. As long as there is no fire ban. There are some great bush walks you can enjoy, including down to the creek (about a 40 min walk). The creek is picturesque with lemon trees and peach trees along the edge while in season. There are 2 sites down at the creek called Firefly's and platypus and these are for off road self contained 4x4 campers and those with a tent. The creek is pristine and crystal clear unless it's raining. These 2 sites are absolutely private if you book them both. If you don't mind sharing the creek with another camper then you only need to book 1 site. There is also a 10 month of the year 30 metre high waterfall (depending on rain fall this waterfall can vary from massive water to slow water) and another seasonal waterfall. Don't forget the dam for swimming with the spa tub and fresh mountain spring water constantly flowing into it from an inch and a half poly pipe constantly overflowing into the dam. The water in the creek is safe to drink with no filter needed. The creek is running and crystal clear and very private. If you are in a 2 wheel drive RV/ Motorhome you can book the "Paw Paw hill site" or "a dam good view" There is one site that is all grass accessible in the dry weather. Plenty of drinking water is also available at all sites either via a tap or the creek running water. All campers MUST HAVE their own portable toilet. If no portable toilet you can purchase one from many camping stores at a reasonable price before coming. Doing number 2 in the bush is totally unacceptable. Because this is a leave no trace camp site we do ask you to take all trash with you when you leave as well. There is no council rubbish collection in this area. We respect our beautiful paradise and we know you will appreciate it also. If you make a fire please leave it so I can mow around it once you leave. E.G Please remove all sticks.
