Nyalar Mirunganah Nature Refuge

**Our camping sites vary in size and proximity to others. If you want to come with a group with several vehicles etc, please send a message rather than book separate sites. We will help find a site which suits your needs. We now have several secluded bush camp sites as alternatives to our more 'civilised' sites. They have no facilities apart from the site so you must be entirely self-sufficient. But all are single sites well away from others. We invite you to come and share our property, soak up the tranquility of our quiet valley and enjoy feeling at home in nature. And your dog is welcome too (under control please because we value our wildlife, and no more than 2 dogs per couple or family group)! The land is nearly 200 Ha in the western foothills of the Dividing Range, with the usually-flowing North Branch Creek being a green haven supporting lots of wildlife. It also includes the secluded back valley of Hann Creek to which you can walk, cycle or ride, with many tracks of lengths up to 3 km. The land is mostly open forest land with some cleared areas from its dairy-farming history, and many gullies with thicker vegetation. The property is mostly now dedicated to nature conservation and the recovery of its more natural state. It is a Nature Refuge under Qld legislation with special emphasis on recognising that the land is Githabul country, honouring local Githabul people now, sharing it with them and others, plus preserving species of plants and animals with known relevance to their former lifestyles. The name Nyalar Mirungan-ah means 'Old Women's Tears' in Githabul, and recognises that they cry because the land was taken from them and because it has not been looked after well by European people. We are now trying to care for it well, and to allow the original ecosystems to return, by lighter grazing, soil recovery and using traditional Aboriginal burning knowledge. And we welcome dogs as long as they don't disturb our wildlife. Shandy, our own dog, is very welcoming to guests and might drop in to your camp for a visit.

Hart Hill boasts a stunning 28 acres. Your initial view of the property coming over a Thanes Creek causeway is that of a magnificent rock face. However, 600m down the road, through the gate, and over the ridge, Hart Hill exposes a lovely undulating fold baring a huge panorama of flat alluvial ground that hugs Thanes Creek. Sprinkled with gums, the camping area is based west of the property in a stunning shady lea cooled by the creek and an old windmill for a backdrop. The properties history is colourful. In 1869 the area was a hub for gold diggers wanting to strike it lucky. Old wooden stumps tell a story of an old mining hut, and if you dug in some of the rock heaps you might get a shock when you uncovered more than gold. Visitors can enjoy campfires, fossicking, including swimming, kayaking, fishing and more dependant on seasonal changes to the creek.

Once owned by a lawless bushranger, Angus McDonald, legend has it that Angus and his gang stowed their loot out at the property. Some say to this day no one has uncovered his gold treasure. The last of Angus and his gang can be seen hanging from 'hang mans tree' in the middle of his hideout. Such a great story, if only it was true... or is it?

Aroona Farm is a 200-acre cattle property run and owned by a young family of 4. 'Aroona' is an aboriginal word meaning "place of refreshing" or "place of running water" which represents this beautiful property well with its natural springs that open up out of the mountain, into a 'forest-like' section of the property and runs into the gully. We also have Acacia Creek that runs through the front which is the head of the Clarence River. Feel free to have a splash in the refreshing water with a couple of swimming holes. Explore our property on foot with many beautiful places to see, and animals (cattle and horses) to watch and pat. Or simply sit back, around the fire with friends and/or family and enjoy the stunning sunsets while listening to the sounds of nature. We offer several designated camping areas, each private with lovely views. Some are much larger and suitable for groups with multiple tents/caravans etc, whereas some are smaller and ideal for couples and groups of 1 or 2 small families. All sites require campers have their own camp toilet, and take all waste when they go. Queen Mary Falls, Dagg's, and Browns Falls (walking track) Killarney QLD is roughly an 8.4km drive and Carr's Lookout is about 15km drive.

Such a great story, if only it was true... or is it?

This beautiful 200-acre property is the perfect place to get away from it all. We have a hilltop area where you can view the sunrise from the east and the sunset in the west, with absolutely no light pollution. On a clear night, the galaxy is astounding to view. The property has multiple areas of creek frontage with both kid and adult-friendly swimming areas. There is a good area for using a small kayak (depending on the creek levels) or floating along on an inner tube, and beautiful views and wildlife abound. You may even get a visit from our beautiful king parrots. You can also enjoy bushwalking, birdwatching, and fishing, and there are even deer on the property, but they’re rarely seen. If you’re keen, you can take your 4WD to the end of Emu Creek Road, where you can start your trek up to the old plane wreck. 170 acres of paradise located in Tarome, just 8 minutes from Aratula and the Cunningham Highway. The campsite is best suited to those chasing a quiet, private area to enjoy the best of nature along with unbelievable mountain views. The property is the home base for a grass fed beef business with a sustainable focus so whilst you will share with some beautiful cows and calves, the secluded(and fenced off!) campsite is private and serene. Tarome offers some of the best views of the Main Range and Cunninghams Gap, all of which you can enjoy from the site. The sunsets here are spectacular. The Warrill Creek runs through the property, adjacent to the campsite and is home to an abundance of wildlife and vegetation all of which you are welcome to explore. The creek runs seasonally and makes a beautiful swimming area, but is just as enjoyable when dry allowing for a great path to explore the area. The site is only a short drive off the main road so the property offers an ideal spot for short stopovers, or alternatively use it as a base to explore the rest of the Scenic Rim. The abundance of walking, hiking, fishing or biking opportunities in the area are endless, or if you are more into relaxing into some food tasting and wineries then you’ve hit the jackpot. Just an hour and a half from Brisbane CBD! In lieu of camping with nature there are no amenities and limited service with some providers, but if you are chasing something in particular please let us know. We are happy to help. By staying with us you are helping a young family achieve our dream of running a sustainable, eco friendly food production business, we genuinely appreciate your support.

We are a 7min drive to Cambanoora Gorge '14 River Crossing' - please make sure you check if it's open prior to going* The small country township of Killarney QLD (7km drive) has everything you need to stock up.
